I got my Big Tex 14k 14x7 trailer almost 2 years ago as well. A dump trailer is a must in this business. I think getting a mini skid steer would be a great idea. I bought my ditch witch sk800 just over a year ago and that thing has made my life soooo much easier. We hardly ever even shovel material by hand anymore. I will dump 5 plus yard of soil or bark and we just use the mini skid to load up wheel barrows to bring the material wherever we want. That way we don't have to worry about damaging lawns or leaving track marks or whatever. Two guys with wheel barrows and 1 guy on the mini and we can load and spread a 5 yards an hour of mulch or soil.

Keith Kalfas I think it was around $28000 out the door but thats in California. The financing is really good though. I think %5 for 60 months. The payment is only $500 per month. We use it at least a few times a week so if we were renting it would be costing us thousands per month. When you have the equipment you find uses for it that you never thought of without it.

The only downfall I've thought of so far is you have to raise the dump body to gain access to the tools, not a big deal for us.

I just got my 14' trailer 2 days ago. Looked at 10' trailers, they were 5,400Lbs axles. So 10,800 GVWR - weight of the trailer, gives about 7,500 usable weight. All 12, 14 & 16-foot trailers I looked at had 7,000Lbs axles, which means that the GVWR doesn't change and it capped at 14,000Lbs. What does change is the usable weight. A longer trailer means a heavier trailer; meaning, less usable weight. Unless you going to tow lightweight or loose stuff like mulch, leaves, or dry snow where you need more volume rather than towing weight, anything solid, like dirt, compost or gravel, will get you way overweight before you get your trailer full. For that reason, I stuck with 14' box. BTW, I love your front inside the storage area. That's smart because you can't see tools from outside (less likely to get stolen), and you're shifting your weight over to back more, which helps with dumping. Yes, we both know to keep the proper ratio of tongue weight.

ive been looking to get a dump trailer for a while, yet just didnt have the extra cash for it. yet recently my business has gotten real busy and i finally am getting one.. its being built and will be ready in a few days... getting a 6x10 2 ft high sidewalls and upgraded the gate to lift so i can spread rock/dirt/mulch. and putting wood sidewalls up. i really liked the sidewalls your friend had on his trailer gate from almost 2 years ago when you first got your trailer.. (the video when ur trailer battery was dead) i plan on installing a winch on to it yet unsure as to where is going to be the best location. have you used yours where its sitting now? i was thinking best spot would be where you have your " foot gap" up front. if you cut out a notch in the wood for the winch. i also have a 52 inch light bar im getting free to review im going to put on the top of the wood in front so i can shine into back of trailer or flip it over and shine to front of trailer. i have been following you for so many years and have learned so much from you and have gained a lot of confidence in myself and my company. started doing windows and accidently found my self doing lanscaping, yet then found it myself branching into many different services to fill the void between jobs, then adding new services just to have constant work durring my winter months. thank you for being here learning as you go and sharing your adventure and letting us join with you ..
@myke_bota75902 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge, generally if the A frame is longer it's so that you have as minimal tongue weight as possible. That's from what I was told.

@allphaselandscape2 жыл бұрын
@@collingrogan7242 for regular mow trucks we use f-150s with dovetail rampa and racks but we pull trailers with f250s. We have one diesel and one gas and both get the job done. Diesel is clearly far more powerful. 7x14 dump trailer with built up sides. Easily hauls 12 yards of mulch which is what we use it for most often. Of course, we do load it with tear out debris, rock, soil occasionally. It's plenty big for most tasks but when we do our large apartment communities We use 80 to 100 yd of mulch. No dump trailer could ever be big enough in that situation!

do you think a dump truck or dump insert in a 3500 series truck would be better for lawn maintenance guys? If i bring my MT85 (dingo style) somewhere i use a flat deck trailer and have to make a second trip to bring the dump trailer.
@ThisGuyWantsBeer4 жыл бұрын
I prefer a mason dump, easier to haul rental attachments, pallets, and other materials in volume. Flip the sides down and you can work without removing the trailer or fighting the tongue. Having under-mount boxes is great for carrying smaller tools and straps/tarps. Even having to work on it is easier, the insert has to come out to replace parts. I have an mt85, it will dump in both but I find the mason dump is the easiest to work with. If I could do all my work with a full size loader I would’ve went for a landscape body but I can build up the sides if needed and it’s nice to have the option of removing the boards if I don’t need to haul 5+ yards of material. Hope this helps.

Love the set up. You probably already know this. We work off our dump trailers, scoop gravel right out of the trailer in to wheelbarrows - easier than scooping off the ground. As you empty out, you can close the gates and dump to bring the gravel closer to the back. It can strain the gates but better than scooping off the ground. Just a thought. I can see why you would dump though, if you’re doing more than 2-3 yards at a time. Love the videos. KG lawn Care ATX

Great video Bro, I have own a trailer for 8 yrs and when I started I was just like you I added too many extras to my trailer but soon after I realized that all those extras obstructed the main purpose of the trailer, I bet that the winch on the front won’t let you open the tail gate right? And if you use the trailer very often I’m pretty sure you soon will accidentally step of those solar panels On the wood walls just run one 2x12 board or 2 max that will make your life easier and you trailer more accessible. Don’t get me wrong I like your enthusiasm but like I said I did all that too. Great job on your videos.

Don't worry too much about your half ton pulling a 12' dump trailer. My dad had an 05 Silverado SS that pulled his 12' Kaughman dump trailer for years. He loaded it with shingles, dirt, rock, anything and it pulled his trailer great. You do need to be a little mindful if hauling heavy stuff, but don't worry too much. Looks great though. These newer half ton trucks especially will haul way more, especially with trailer brakes than most give them credit for.

At the risk of being the obnoxious safety sally in the comments I'm concerned that someone's going to get hurt if they lose their balance in that trailer and fall on a sharp tool sticking up. Ask your buddy if he can weld a sheet of expanded metal below the frame of the trailer/dump bed. You can stash tools between the dump bed and frame if you do that. or check out the buyers 6-tool racks and mount them in the pickup. I have a cab protector on my maintenance rig and i can store lots of hand tools upright against it in the Buyers racks, and it takes up zero bed space!
