That's exactly what I was thinking. With the pandemic, it's starting* to be impossible to live here, in France, when you're not vaccinated. So I'm thinking about moving out. I always dreamed to live in Japan but I know how expensive it is and unfortunately I'm not rich so... And I'm not interested in living in Korea because their social expectations are too weird for me (but I would blend perfectly in the Japanese society though haha). And living in Taiwan I could easily visit Japan.

what part of Taiwan do you live in ? I've lived here 5 years , 2 in 新北市 and 3 in 高雄市。 I will just speak of recently . my girlfriend left her purse on a strangers scooter on accident so we drove home and only then discovered she forgot her purse with her wallet, ID , credit cards ect ect . and went back to the place were she left it . it was gone and so we found a police officer and he radioed if anyone found it and they did , and we got it back with everything in it including money. also she left her keys in her scooter ignition for 3 days straight ! no one touch it !

Nick Sanfilippo I live in Taoyuan. Thanks for sharing your experiences. That's actually pretty amazing. Her purse & bike would have been gone in 5 minutes in many other countries.

In Taiwan, that's actually becoming a common and usual thing, which I appreciate so much. I remember maybe 10 years ago, I left my wallet on the train and there's a lot of money in the wallet. It ended up someone sent it to the train office and nothing was missing. If it's me, I will do the same thing. The mindset is quite simple. We'll think "if this happens to me, what will I feel?" So it turns out the first thought comes up in our head is "we need to give it back as soon as possible, the people who lost it must be very worried now". We have great empathy. That also explains why Taiwanese are so willing to help people who is in need.

Thank you for sharing. I was actually expecting to hear more cons about Taiwan. I really want to hear more downside about Taiwan, especially from someone who moved and live in Taiwan. One thing really bad about Taiwan is the ridiculously high price for buying a property, especially in Taipei. It just makes no sense if we take into account how low the average wage is. Although the house price is now slowly declining, it's still one of the main reasons that a lot of young ppl choose to leave and work abroad.

You could get by in less. If you have kids or dependents, then you’ll need much more. So many variables to consider. It me hard to give a definite answer.
