I did Sales for 20 years. It is such a relief to not worry all the time anymore. Worrying about being in double digit year-over-year growth; losing biz to competitors, always having to be prospect for new business, feeling like you are bugging potential clients, etc. You can never really relax

There are definitely a lot of pros and cons. I feel like the pros generally outweigh the cons, because the cons are often manageable be tweaking your mindset :) and also setting boundaries for yourself...it's important to have a balance in your life of work rest play!

I've been a real estate investor since 2011 and got to say the 16:00 mark you were talking about is the most brutal. There's NOTHING I can bring out of all that wasted time with deals that went nowhere. It's not like painting or something tangible. Even if someone painted a bad painting, at least they still HAVE that painting. I only got memories of those deals that went nowhere lol

i like to put my facts about sales jobs, first advantage of sales jobs, Job availability, there are tons of jobs of sales advertised every year which is a good thing for sales people. second advantage, sales people can earn good money in their jobs. salary, bonus, incentives etc. disadvantage of sales jobs, Getting fired. yes in sales career, getting fired is a common thing, one of the common reason is the problem of meeting sales target quota. this is a point where many sales people get stuck and eventually get laid off by the their employers. so you have to be really good in selling products or otherwise you will be changing jobs frequently with no permanent career.

Sales is the most unsecured and hardest job for the following reasons. 1- Sales is a number game, if you don't achieve your monthly sales Quotas or simply Targets you will be FIRED. 2- How hard you work, efforts you make, how friendly or honest to your customers / clients are no use and in vain if you don't archive your sales targets. 3- Your Manager is your best buddy as long as you archive or exceed the monthly sales targets, if you under perform or don't archive sales targets, you will be the worst enemy of your manager simply cos your managers job security depends on your sales performance. 4- Your Qualifications or Degree certificates are just a piece of paper in a sales careers, cos if you want to progress in your company (promotion) or secure your job, Sales performance is the ultimate factor for consideration.
@parthmalhotra777777
@parthmalhotra777777 Жыл бұрын
and the worst thing about sales is constant stress, even if you achieve your targets once, you are given even higher targets next year/quarter. It just seems like you are running in circles over and over for years just to make money. Some people might love it for the big commissions but it comes at a very big cost, and the companies know that, hence the higher pay checks. You cant even enjoy your day off's since one needs to be available all the time. There is literally no respect for personal line/time zone/day off and the worst part is, that is something that someone will need to do even after having a family, which is insane. I have been doing sales for 6 years now and it dint give me any satisfaction since i dint feel like i learnt something different, which any other person would not have been able to do. That is the reason no skills are required as a prerequisite for sales job.

Do you think for working in sales at such a universally sought after brand helps your job? Like Adobe has basically monopolized a whole range of creativity and production softwares that are vital to so many users, companies & industries. Does this make it "easier" to sell a product that is created by such a huge company?
@Katherout
@Katherout 3 жыл бұрын
i personally don't sell the creative stuff so i don't benefit from the quasi-monopoly side of it (don't even get me started on monopolies tho), but it absolutely helps to have brand recognition when talking to new folks. that being said since nobody is really aware adobe has marketing tech, we still have to cover ground explaining that we have more than just CC. hope that helps!

I’ve seen this in my non-sales friends as well. They would be amazing in sales because of their infectious personalities but a sales career doesn’t interest them. That’s because, in my opinion, they don’t want to be held accountable for hitting a quota or making a career out of constantly selling something. You can be good at influencing others but have no interest in making a career out of doing that everyday. Selling can be fun but sales can take the fun out of it with all of the other BS that comes with it - increasing goals, pressure to close deals by a certain day/time, and all the little metrics you are analyzed on.

I left enterprise sales. It's such a demoralizing job and only for the faint of heart. I always hit my target, but it was short-lived because it's always about "the next" win. You're just in a hamster wheel. My colleague closed a $7.5 million deal (massive for my company), and 3 days later on a forecast call, leadership is already asking "whatcha got cooking?"....... absolutely ridiculous.

That’s because sometimes, it’s not being about extroverted and always talking. The best sales people are the ones who listen intently and craft their talk track based on the info they just gathered. This is a bit old but -- I went to school for Graphic Design. I ended up not liking it and got offered a field sales job. I was very nervous as I have anxiety and NEVER wanted to be in sales. I barely liked calling to make appointments. I pushed myself and I ended up being really good at it. I've been doing it for 2.5yrs now. I would not consider myself a social person or people person. I am bubbly and I get along with people very well, but I'm an introvert at heart and prefer my alone time. I make 10 cold calls a day in-person and it's a breeze.
@whelancommunications
@whelancommunications Жыл бұрын
Women also enjoy privileges over men in Sales which is a big plus for women. It's the same with Public Relations jobs. Most men don't have the people skills required for Sales, and yes they are stiff competiion and they can be sexist or create barriers, however you are chopping 80% of men out of the equation when you select this job field. Any way to cut chunks of the population out of competition is good. That's why plumbers I know often make $1000 in 2 hours of work, really good days can earn 3000-5000 in a day - because no women, and most men don't want to do what they do. That being said sales guys can be a real pain in the a... they are difficult and manipulative personalities, if you can work with engineers and IT as a sale rep at least they are more honest, even if they are stubborn.
