I’m not sure the job is persuasion so much as it’s building trust. People are smart, they don’t like to be persuaded. They like an expert to help them determine their needs and advise them on their options. Then they make their own decision. Or at least they should since that leads to the most satisfying engagement for all parties involved
@andrewcastillo92922 жыл бұрын
People love to be persuaded and led by others, it’s just easier to persuade when you have that persons trust. They’re one in the same, not two separate concepts.
@daveshiroma2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewcastillo9292 have to disagree. You can be persuasive but have not trust and not close. The inverse isn’t the same
@andrewcastillo92922 жыл бұрын
@@daveshiroma I respect your opinion but the matter of the fact is if you’re a persuasive person then you’re going to close that sale, and the art of getting someone to trust you is an act of persuasion. By definition to persuade is to convince someone to take an action( such buying your product, or in this case getting them to trust you

@@andrewcastillo9292 This mentality will only work on boomers. No need to be salesy you just have to asses their needs and give them solutions.
@saleswithemily2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewcastillo9292 I don't agree with you on this, too. I think Dave is referring to a different school of thoughts in Selling, where you play the role of advisor, not closer. You are saying it is the sales people persuade people to BUY. That is not the real job of the sales people, at least not at trusted adviser level. The real job is to let buyer know your products' pros & cons, then you left the buyer to decide if they chose you or your competitor. Sure, you will lose sometimes. I think for cheap B2C consumer things, you can persuade people to buy. But I am talking about companies buy 6 figure software (so as Patrick here). There is a lot less emotion to manipulate, a lot more rational decisions and many decision makers involved. So like Dave said, you need to build trust and give your potential customer the truth about your products.

Don't take just any SDR job! Reach out to the other SDR's on the team before interviewing and gauge how often promotions to AE actually happen. I was a top performing rep before going into SaaS sales and figured "I'll do great, be a top performer, get promoted in under a year no matter where I go" --- I WAS WRONG. I was the companies top performer for over 2 years. At 2.5 years I decided to quit because they refused to promote me. They didn't promote a single SDR in the entire 2.5 years I spent in the role. There are bad companies who don't promote, so be a good SDR and disqualify companies like that in your discovery phase.
