I hate prospect rankings so I came up with my own way to do it: The Prospect Pyramid! What do you think?

Steve, this is really good. You're right people have way too much time on their hands if they're arguing over who is the 14th to 17th best and so on. Nothing to do with your ranking/pyramid, it just reinforces how few top prospects the Leafs have on D.
@cjo7696 Жыл бұрын
I’m watching this 6 years in the future and yes in fact, zack Hyman is an 80 point player, so crazy
@andrewlee23893 жыл бұрын
Crazy how every player in the top 3 tiers went on to be very good with the leafs
@BrandonLJChasse7 жыл бұрын
This is brilliant! Really want to see the major sports outlets using this concept. I've always felt it ridiculous too with the ranking system.
@juliremington48607 жыл бұрын
This is actually a really smart way to do things. Like, my biggest frustration when trying to rank players or prospects is that, okay, so maybe Player A is a better two-way player, but Player B is a better play maker. They're equally as good as the other, but their strengths lay in different places. Then I end up agonizing over which is more beneficial to the current system, which never gets me ANYWHERE, and I eventually just call it quits. So thanks, this might save me a bit of sanity in the coming seasons with the Pens. (Side note! I'm going to the Canada vs US preliminary game at Nationwide and, dude, I've never been more excited in my life! Sorry, you mentioned the WCH)
@jamienaundorf87987 жыл бұрын
So hyped for this season, and great idea haha, loved it
@mattehaus7 жыл бұрын
great idea Steve, needs a little more development and that would come with defining the tiers. Tier 1 elite talent, tier 2 likely top six/top pair role, tier 3 potential top six/top pair but likely bottom etc. doing this i would combine your 1st and second tiers, yes Matthews is our undisputed best prospect but the other two would be worthy of tier 1 status. Love 'The Dangle Matrix'

Steve, I'm getting very excited to watch these younguns and the rest of the Leafs play hockey this season! We could have two kid lines maybe more. Only thing I'm worried about is defence, love to see Reilly step up his game.

i love the pyramid idea! its sooo much better than a numerical ranking system
@s.m.19817 жыл бұрын
I think this system is great for someone who wants a quick idea of the pool. That being said I like the 25 under 25 because I read it at work and the more there is the better, I enjoy the in depth articles on each character and if it's getting them more hits good for them. it's better than click bait!
@s.m.19817 жыл бұрын
Haha character.
@hejdaa55287 жыл бұрын
i like the tiers you could also make it a letter based system for example A,B,C etc. A+ (elite special) A++ (superstar potential) A+++ (mcdavid/crosby) so as of right now A+++ mcdavid A++ (Laine,Matthews,Marner) A+ Nylander A kapanen etc etc
@davevanes53687 жыл бұрын
I like this idea especially for the slightly above average Leaf fan like myself. Just enough knowledge to get into a 2 hr fight about who is better, but now is saved the pain.

It's a lot like baseball prospecting where players are given grades on the 20/80 scale on skills, then overall players. With a floor/mid/ceiling you could give a risk value associated with each too.

I'm really hoping Rychel turns it around this season, he hasn't been living up to his hype as of yet, but would be if anything a super solid 3rd liner for you guys
@patrickbyrne15617 жыл бұрын
love the idea Steve
@seanjensen68147 жыл бұрын
Not trying to start an argument just stating my view as a CBJ fan, Rychel imo is higher than 4th tier, he played well in the NHL on a bad team for the small amount of games he was there, and had an impact in the AHL that was undervalued due to his supporting cast. He's similar to a Nick Ritchie in Anaheim, he knows how to score, has the size, has the grit, and had the want, just needs to develop the speed to be at an NHL'ers pace. Both of them seemed like they were .5 seconds behind the puck for scoring goals in their NHL games. I wish Rychel the best of luck in Toronto and I hope he plays in the top 6 their in the future.

7 months later, 20/20 hindsight in full effect.... You basically nailed it. Top two tiers, duh.. 3rd tier, 2 out of 4, not bad. Kapanen finally showing his stuff in the playoffs 4th tier... Hyman, Sosh. Zach, clearly being the dark horse. Rychel and Leipsic showing good numbers in the regular season with the Marlies. Well done.
