Being able to play and understand Japanese games is a good excuse to learn Japanese, ngl. There are so many good games that were never released in the West. Thankfully English patches exist for a lot of games but still.

To be fair, the newer the generation, the fewer interesting exclusives there are. NES/SNES had loads, same goes to PS1/PS2 for example... but most other consoles - not quite as many. The most interesting hidden gems could be found in the 90s/2000s. Still, any excuse is good to learn a foreign language. I just wish it was easier, because you could learn French and Spanish in the same time it would take you to learn Japanese, hahah.

Played most of these. I feel PS3 was the pinnacle of Japanese gaming. All of these exclusives show that those days a lot of Japanese games were still made for the Japanese audience. Today most of their games are released for smartphones, or they release games globally, which is kinda different compared to these "old" games.

Even this number is still nothing compared to how many exclusives there were on PS1/PS2 or earlier Nintendo consoles/handhelds. You can easily see how few of those there are on consoles nowadays, by comparison. The market sure changed by a good deal over the last decade in particular. It's the opposite of Microsoft's Xbox, not surprisingly seeing that their consoles tend to flop hard in Japan (different gaming trends; for example, almost no visual novels/JRPGs).

@VirtualGamingLibrary Do you think you can do all lists of Physical Release only for PS3, PSP, and PS Vita in each regions? I did saw Tales of Eternia PSP version showed up as downloadable for Japanese PlayStation Store after I created a Japanese Account, but I don't see Tales of Eternia PSP version showed up on the European PlayStation Store.

Well, those are just the Japanese exclusives (and even then, many of those games came out in English on other consoles). There are some JRPGs that came out both in the West and in Japan, but you're not wrong - with every generation, there are fewer and fewer interesting JP exclusives.
