OP, you seem to ignore that Sony made it so that the disk drive will only work on the device as long as their servers are up and running. That's a HUGE flaw right there that destroys any other advantage.

If you connect the external floppy disk drive, you will need an internet connection, just for info.

Very nice and pointing out video, would definetely like to see some extent test on temperatures as those cooling on the GPU look a bit sketchy, its hard to say if they are smaller but visually looks like they used less material or it could be just because of relocating the radiators and their lenghts but it willl be still interesting to see how does this affects temps.

The dots on the PS5 Plastic Frame indicate the length of the screws, so in case you mix them up, the more dots = the more longer the screw is, the dots near that hole in the frame is for the fan screw.

Thinking the dots next to the screw holes are the thread pitch. Two dots are coarse, and one is fine. The dots match up to the screws for the fan. Also, the two dots next to the hole is probably for that top left fan screw.

I believe the dots by the screws represents what layer the screw reaches to or something. I noticed it when I recently cleaned my regular ps5 except it had small dashes

I am curious if you could shed some light on what makes the conciliating coil whine in the power supplys? Those square things or the capacitors? My channel has two videos posted about how my OG PS5 had a terrible high pitched coil whine, and the replacement still had a choppy buzzing (but it wasn't as bad the the first one). My new slim actually sounds the best of all of them, but it still has a little bit of coil whine, but it is better and easy to live with.

The dots might be the screw size and the ones near the fan probably refers to the screws in the fan and not the hole. I could not tell which screws came from which hole to confirm though. At least you don't need to fully disassemble the PCB shield sandwich to get to the PSU as it comes out in one piece.

The HDMI port being weak is a problem I had with my first gen PS4. I tried taking it to a repair shop, but for some reason they told me they couldn't fix it and I ended up just throwing out a perfectly serviceable PS4. This happened a long time before I learned to repair my own electronics. I wish I learned to fix stuff sooner rather than rely on a shop that was just too lazy to repair a simple fix. I wish I still had that PS4, it had PT on it. Oh well, won't happen again!

Ive attempted this on PS4. You need alot of practice to get it replaced. Otherwise you could tear pads and that is exactly what happened on my first attempt

He didn’t noticed that all the heatsinks are right next to the fan making a lot more easier to clean compared to the og ps5 that have the biggest part of the heatsinks a bit far to the fan so you have to completely disassembly your og ps5 to fully access them but here it is not a problem because they are right on the fan and heading to it i feel like thats a massive improvement for the peapoles that aren’t really experienced but still wanna clean easily their ps5 without a lot of different size of screw driver

I saw other video that someone said that the 1 dot means short screw 2 dots means long screw For me the best of this version: - Disc drive easy to remove, it is one chunk that is connected with only 1 connector that simply is plug and play - has more Internal space (1TB) - it is easy to install more memory in the console like the original PS5 - it is smaller, not much but it is smaller, the original PS5 is Big and its design makes it feel bigger - power supply is a chunk like in the original PS5, and you can remove it without needing to messing around inside The things I don' t like: - it comes in white with a mix of mate and glossy :( I would prefer the console in black ( midnight black) and mate like we had the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro - I don' t apreciate the line in the middle of the plates, I prefer one plate for each side like the original PS5 version - they replaced the USB A with USB C, I think they could kept the USB A in the front of the console like the original PS5 - it is hard to replace the CMOS battery, I think that the CMOS battery should be accessible like the M.2 memory slot, the user shouldn't need to unmount all the console to replace the CMOS battery

Great channel! I really enjoy your videos!😀I picked up a PS5 slim for my son for Xmas. When we launch ANY game the fans kick in and then after a few seconds a very high pitched whine which can be heard over the TV sound. I did call Sony UK support but nobody picked up the phone after waiting for one hour. My next step is to get the console replaced and hopefully the replacement model may have a different model of fan installed (assuming this is the fan). There is no way I can keep this model as the high pitch noise is horrible. Our PS3/PS4 fans could be loud sometimes but NEVER distracting and NEVER exhibited a high pitched whine. Is this progress? (In comparison our Series X never makes a sound and is silent...amazing in fact)

What I’ve found to lessen wear and tear on hdmi is getting a bunch of those female/female hdmi connectors. You do this and all the wear tear is on that hdmi cable and that connector

HDMI ports is pretty much the most common job for repair businesses. Firstly, lots of kids take their console between different locations, parents houses. And people generally knock their consoles off things and it trashes the port. Am sure that plenty of people don't break their consoles, we just see every one that does.

Observation... My 1115CA had only the PCB in the slot (metal below) to mount the M.2 drive to when i removed the cover. It was a NIB Horizon bundle model. The dots by the screws may be where push out pins shove the part out of the mold. Worked in plastics industry for a few months running a molding machine.

You're thinking of ejector pins, which show witness marks on the plastic where they push when the plastic has cooled down enough to eject from the mold. These are typically a large round circle to give enough surface area to eject the plastic without pushing through.

The dots tell you the type of screw driver to use. Different countries use different style drivers, like the JIS screwdriver label is one dot.

Have had my ps5 since day one. Just recently took it completely apart to clean and check liquid metal. It definitely needed a cleaning but the liquid metal was spread nicely and had zero dry spots. As long as you don't move it directly after playing it hard and hot the liquid metal is not a problem. Will open up my second PS5 in a year or so and see if has the same non issues

It's not really the fact that the liquid metal may gather on the bottom side that bothers me (although that's an issue on its own) but the fact that the chip seal may fail sometime and that's when the magic smoke escapes. 😅

Seems like they missed an opportunity to give some additional cooling to the m.2 drive. A more open screwplate and some thermal pads there would've been nice as theres a heatsink right behind it now.

Looks to me that the 2-dot screw holes might be for orientation reference and thus not need to be screwed so tightly, while the 1-dot screw holes may need slightly more tightening to secure the device from falling apart.

Nah, it's actually for the screw lengths, atleast according to IFixIt, so in case you mix them up, the more dots = the longer the screw that is suppose to go into it.

My biggest concern for repairability for the PS5 has always been the custom built in SSD, we all know SSD's fail, I've recently had my laptop SSD fail. So once that happens surely the PS5 becomes a brick, unless repairers can get the custom controller and Nand(maybe the nand isn't custom, I don't know). Whereas the Xbox Series X(haven't seen a teardown of the Series S) has one of the smaller type M.2 so is easily repairable with disassembly.

The Series X/ Series S uses a removable m.2 However there is a hidden partition which needs to be cloned over. Depending on how messed your m.2 in your series X/S is, you are not always able to clone this. So Sadly, these to are bricks somewhat. This is essentially a problem with all modern electronics. Sadly unless consumers stop buying the stuff, the world will not change..I can say from running a full-time brick & mortar repair shop - alot of repairs are simply not cost effective and way to time consuming. Meaning there are repairs I used to do as a "hobbyist" that simple make no economical sense as a business owner (Im referring to all electronics in general, not just consoles). It comes back to the whole "Right to Repair"thing. Theres zero reason that companies like SOny couldnt provide tools and training to official licenced shops - just like mechanics have.

Long wires are 4:30 in video are anti-strain/fatigue in high vibration area. No manufacturing company would waste wire when making millions of units. It is a design consideration. PS: and pardon the pun. The power supply was tested when manufactured. Depending on time from then to you is not long in this case. Treat all power supplies as a gun. If you see it, it is loaded, even if everyone tells you it is not, or you will get zapped.

Are you able to fix a code 43 on a gpu? I have rtx 3060 ryzen 7 5800 H omen 15 2021 laptop. About 3 months ago got code 43 stoped your device detected a problem. Have been able to get it to come back after reinstalled drives about 20 times in a row then it would just pop back to life at random times but every restart have to do it all over again. So gave up for about 2 months and have just used my deck but would like to know if its something you could fix?

As far as i saw online , if you buy a brand new ps5 slim you still need to connect to the internet/update software in order to use the disk drive. Also when you factory reset it also need to pair the drive. So in the future when they shutdown the servers, it will be impossible to use the disk drive

Would you recommend plugging a japanese PS5 (CFI 2000 A01) to a 220V outlet? Manuals and console itself say it's 100V, but everywhere on the internet it says that this is because of regulations from each country/region, but all of them just have the same dual voltage PSU

Maybe with possible homebrew in the far future. Since the OG PS5 will very likely dont know the Hardware ID of the new drive and simply block it. That why i got directly a disc version when i got mine in 2021

My only complaint about the ps5. Is the plates. Think with how expensive that they are. That the plates would be something better than plastic clips holding it on. I worked on my first one shortly after it came out. And had to pay for a new plate. Luckily the kid wasn't mad about it. But, still makes me get scared to pop one off. That sound no matter how many times I hear it. Makes me feel like I'm breaking it.

I’m wondering if this model will accumulate dust and debris more easily than the original PS5 given that they’ve removed the vent ‘grills’ which somewhat help reduce dust getting inside the console. I’m thinking that if you stand this new model vertically out in the open, like next to your TV, then dust can freely enter the top and front of the console. Sony look to have also removed the ‘dust catcher’ holes under the plates that let you vacuum out any dust accumulation. It’ll be interesting to see how this new design holds up in the long run.

My PS five started to sound a bit loud. I went to the home screen and it settled down. I open the game back up and it beeped three times before turning off upon trying to turn it on. There was a loud pop, and now there is no power to the device, I’m willing to bet that it’s a short. Hopefully it is just the power source but I wanted to see is there anything else that might be fried and is it worth it to try to get it repaired or should I just go ahead and call this a loss

My laptop (ASUS-K46CA) doesn't turn on immediately when I turn it off after use, but it turns on after a while, is this due to a problem? I have the same problem with my desktop PC (Dell i5 4Gen), when it starts up it runs for a long time without any problem.

Those can't be repaired because their design is fundamentally broken. The Nvidia early 90nm RSX in the backwards compatible PS3s (and early 65nm runs, too) is of a generation when Nvidia was having production problems across the board, also earning them a full, life-time ban from all things Apple when they didn't make good on their blunder. Basically, the only hope to continue using a backwards compatible PS3 once its original RSX breaks boils down to backporting a much later, 40nm shrink of the RSX to the old board, which some enterprising technicians have managed to do. You can check youtube for videos of it being done and inquire a quote from enterprising technicians to fix your console.

The hdmi port isn't close the adaptor but on the center ,,maybe now is better because before was to hot on same ps5 games
