Gustavo calls his town a memorial. To me it sounds like a memorial to Max. Those people may have been related to Max. Or as Max and he moved to Mexico, it seems resonable to assume they stayed some where and that villiage seems like a logical place. A remote location for a drug dealer is not an unthinkable strategy.

To me, Gus is the definition of "Speak softly and carry a big stick." as he almost never raises his voice and when he does, you freeze in terror, and listen.

I love how Gus analyses meticulously nearly everything which makes him so dangerous as he can strike the ego of people to a scarily accurate degree. I love if you do one video on Nacho or Lalo. The best characters of the prequel.

What fascinates me about the BB/BCS universe is how a character can be seen as the protagonist in one set of circumstances and the antagonist the rest of the time. When Gus is facing off with the cartel, my sympathies are entirely with him. But once the story returns to Albuquerque, I'm hoping Walt and Jesse prevail over Gus. Of course, Walt is actually his own worst enemy, creating discord everywhere he goes. If he had it within him to accept certain realities, he could've coexisted with Gus in a mutually rewarding business arrangement. But as is shown over and over, Walt's pride and ego make that impossible. Great analysis, Georgia!

I think the reason Gus funds the village is because it's something Max would've liked. There's a monument to Max in the village, but I would argue that the village itself is also a monument to him.
@coletrain31622 жыл бұрын
Gustavo is fascinating because he clearly wasn't always like this. In the flashbacks we get during Breaking Bad, he seems much more carefree, but then his business partner/implied boyfriend was murdered in front of him by the cartel and he dedicated his life to brutal, meticulous revenge.
@illwitness9 ай бұрын
Its also heavily (but subtly) implied that Gus was part of the Pinochet regime. This would explain why he is the way he is.
@Boreasnorm6391 Жыл бұрын
Gus has a way of inspiring loyalty through both ends of the spectrum. Giancarlo said it the best: “Brutal if you don’t do what he says, but very kind if you do,” People not only follow him out of fear of his experience and influence, but they also know that they are treated extremely fairly as long as they remain in his good faith.
@esbeng.s.a97612 жыл бұрын
fun fact Gustavo was only meant to be in one ep, but the actor played him like Gustavo was hidding something. And people wanted to know what his true deal was. And the rest is history

When Psychoanalyzing Gus...Well I think it is important that, that is not his real name. What is his real name...No one knows. Except Don Eladio apparently. Gus grew up in Chile. His family was extremely poor. At least that is the story that he tells Hector Salamanca. He elaborates by explaining that from he was 15 & for several years he kept his family secure by growing Lucama fruits that he sold. Furthermore he tells Hector that a Cuati, A species of racoon, stole his fruit & when he finally caught it. He did not kill it. He kept it alive that was a worse punishment. Which is a metaphor for what happens to Hector when he has his stroke & is left paralysed in his wheel chair. "Gus" is giving him a fate worse than death. Because Hector killed his lover. On top of that it is strongly hinted by Eladio that "Gus" was in fact a member of the Chilean secret police when he grew up. He had to flee the country in 1986 when Augusto Pinochet took power. As you say he is a perfectionist & there is almost no concrete evidence as to whom he were before 1986 except the stories that he tells Hector among others....Some of them seem like obvious lies. For example that he had a wife & children. Because it appears quite evident that he is gay as the show presents him. Personally I think that "Gustavo Fring" is sort of a character that he has invented for himself. It is an empty void. Like a machine. It has two purposes: Survive & Prosper. Nothing else. The village is his old real self sometimes sticking its head out...Yet essentially it is dead

Hello Georgia! Love the cosplay as always...and I REALLY love that tie! I think there are so many things Gustavo feels he does or can do that most other people do not. The protecting and funding of the village may be a another way he can prove that to himself for his own gratification. Maybe the whole...Max...was it? connection was just a direction indicator for this realm of "achievement" for Gustavo. You poster on the back wall has me curious...especially as it is not clear enough for me to identify...yet I think I may have seen it before. You're playing with my brain Georgia. I like that! = )

One of the best written villains of all time. All thru BCS and BB. I loved that they gave us more of his backstory. We already knew his most defining life moment from BB, which was tragic, but we didn't see much of what happened after that. That moment definitely changed him. And we can see it thru his actions and behavior afterward.

Lol... gotta love a guy who lives for 8.3% quarter over quarter growth.... no emotional processing there. The big difference between him and Tuco from BB is that Tuco may seem more scary but there is a sense if one were to wait long enough he will screw up and take himself out. Not with Fring.

Maybe Gus nurtures the place and the people in it as it represents the last of innocent-good on his life that was brutally taken away from him, his partner, and that he got into doing all his dark deeds unwillingly as it is the way of the world he got into, and yet still had to have this place just not to completely lose touch with this part of his soul. Maybe he's not so nihilistic.

As very young child, Gustavo Fring endured the trauma of starvation poverty. When an animal harmed his lacuma tree, a source of food and money, a seven-year-old Gustavo tortured that poor animal...and it was prolonged torture. Children who sadistically torture animals become adult psychopaths. All the more disturbing is that as a mature adult, when Gustavo tells this story, he is boasting. A psychological healthy person would NOT tell this story, as a matter of shame, no less BOAST of it. Gustavo Fring is mentally ill.
