Yea, just be sure to pick up your fuzzy socks, your camo pajama set, the logo track suit, the fuzzy blankie and pillows to place your tears into, one of numerous styles of jackets, of course all repeating Alex Grey's artwork for over 20yrs, some apparel for your kids, some apparel for you pets, all while listening to the 30th Anniversary CD of Undertow priced at such a bargain of only $250 and wash it down with some elegant fancy wine since you guys are so classy and sophisticated and totally not mindless sheep that would give thousands of dollars to a band that has only made a joke of themselves at this point. Then you can foam at the mouth and hang on every word of MJK like he's such an intellectually advanced specimen while he laughs at you, the Tool fan, for being such an actual Tool.

I'll say this - my husband got me into Tool. It took me 2 years of listening to them before it really clicked and I realized I was hearing something unlike I've ever experienced before. I became hooked and I have a hard time listening to other music now; it all sounds so boring. They're the only band that I can listen to without skipping songs.

Hey Nena ! That's a great analysis as always, thank you so much for it ! I totally agree. I can't claim the title of being a fan because I know too little of their music and about them, but I'm pretty sure I'll become one once I get the time, energy and patience to really dive into their work. What I've discovered from them (mainly through your channel, thank you so much for that!) really speaks to me. Speaking from that perspective, I'd say the main thing that connects me to their music are the emotions I feel when listening to them, but of course all the other things like lyrics, technicality and complexity play into it, altough I perceive them more on a subconscious level and I get really aware of them mostly only when someone points them out like you did. After introspecting based on your description, I'd say I fit it pretty well including the points of non conformity and being creative myself. On what to analyse next, I'd suggest the band "Dogma", without a specific song though as their first (and only for now) album is a concept album. I think there are lots of hidden meanings and messages to be found there, well hidden under the obvious main theme / story that seems to be a cover. Happy New Year and all the best to you! 🍀🍀🤗🤗💛

I agree, good points. Just would like to notice, that being Tool fan not necessary fits the whole set. One can just like their music and don't give a shit about artwork or meaning of lyrics (especially not English native speaker) etc. In my experience, a first step was the feeling that sound, rhythmic structure of their songs somehow naturally fits well to my brain (almost mathematically). Then, with a time passing, gradually I got soaked with everything else - visual expression, lyrics, aesthetics. And never dried out. It's the message that they bring is interesting and worthy to experience and submerge into it again and again.

I’ve always, since childhood was intrigued by tools videos, very strange videos but their sound equally as unique was very enjoyable. Unfortunately only seen them live once back in 97 and the experience is almost indescribable with their sound accompanied by the visual effects. I absolutely love Tool. A perfect circle is also amazing.

TOOL, one of my all time favorite bands of all time top 3 for sure. Yes I definitely agree with your analysis. It’s so hard to pick a favorite album of theirs cuz it changes 😂 and they’re all great albums but if I have to choose one, it’s gonna be Aenima, it’s constantly my favorite. Another great video, Nena. I said it before and I'll say it again, you never disappoint. I myself have always been drawn to Tool mostly because of their complexity. I've heard people complain about their music sounding weird and their songs being too long. For me that's what makes them so great. You've never hear anything like them. Yes, you do here elements of their music from bands they've influenced or been influenced by, but you never hear anything like them anywhere. They truly are their own genre. You also hit it on the nail when it comes to their bass lines. When it's asked what is Tool's signature sound, people say it's Danny's drums, Adam's guitar, or Maynard's vocals and lyrics. For me their signature has always been that bass. You've never here that tone by anybody except Paul and Justin. You're right, when you here that bass, you know it's a Tool song. It’s so many things. BUT, the irony is you mentioned doing a similar deep dive into Rush fans & the common denominator is the driving reason behind both bands being on my top 10 ever list; which includes all genres of music. That common denominator is the drumming/drummers driving the music in a way no two drummers (in my opinion of course) EVER have. Neil Peart was a god to me in my teens; I mean that guy was IT. I cried the entire week listening to the dedicated SiriusXm Rush station they did in tribute. Then I found Tool & Danny Carey, the man that I call The GOAT but it almost felt/feels blasphemous because of my adoration of The Professor. Danny is on his own island.

Now I feel guilty. Seeing your video ...the feeling after was so warm, guess I'm not alone in a corn field of hollow people....muttering "if you're there, pick up..." every so often...the response has been void silence -- until this video. You not only get it, clearly, you feel it. Guilty, because I feel I am past validation, I thought I have had enough of that, but guess not...knowing there are others who love metal share these attributes made me feel really good. Guess I'm NOT the outrageous genre bending iconoclast that created a new art form - music. video, text as one work of art. When you mentioned "community" I feel that is not me, and I still feel that way. When you use the word intellect as if it is not one side of the same coin with emotion, intuition, instinct. People may see me as an intellectual becasue of my vocabulary, but I strive to live every moment below the neck - feeling my way through life. Thinking makes me nervous. You might want to go deeper on this video and show how Tool songs articulate archetypes that are shared by Paleolithic tribal societies - Danny and his "African" sounding percussiion aesthetic development... Yes - it is their precision that makes them so deep. Maybe our psyches want perfection to feel stable and safe, and clearly articulate the "form" or "object" that is the image of the song. We owe Sylvia Massey for their simple yet potent "one or two string sound" Undertow produced by Sylvia established the sound we have heard ever since. Please do more of these videos. Go deep as you dare. (Which appears to be fathomable.)

Sorry, I have to disagree. Synesthesia causes sensory crossover. One sense triggers another that isn’t typically involved in how you experience something. When someone is talking, I see the words in my head. Also, my brain processes music visually (colors, shapes, pictures). So yes, some of us do see music.

Tools music is some of my favorite music. Notice I didn’t say Tool is one of my favorite bands? What’s the difference? I view no man from his ‘pedestal’. Learned that from ‘Eulogy’ 25 years ago. There is no greatest band or group. There is only music that is either pleasing to my hear or not. I stumbled across this having searched for reactions. I enjoy watching people enjoy the music like I did, for the first time. But I honestly couldn’t care less about the band or band members outside of what they offer musically. All the Tool lore and history…I really don’t care. Unfortunately many cannot make that distinction.

Well, now that you mentioned it - yes. The analysis result seems (more) more or (less) less correct. However, now I feel "analyzed" and it makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable, exposed. Also, I don't have their "favorite" song. Some don't fit in the complete (relative uniformity of the) picture, though. Nevertheless, their music seems to resonate in sync with my "higher brain functions usage". Simply: feels good.

Crazy. I HATED TOOL. Pure thrash metal for me. I couldn’t stand them😂 One night I had consumed a large dose of shrooms and my buddy throws in some Pushit. Changed me on the spot. I can still feel my body reacting to that song and I’m 53 now. Almost like a relapse trip. I became a fanatic of their catalog that night. It all clicked and to this day, they are the pinnacle of music to me. Perfect mix of incredible musicians. Will never be anyone like them again.

Who is more of a modern-day Pink Floyd. And if you want to see artwork and albums go look at some of the punk albums. Dead Kennedys literally got taken down by tipper Gore because of an album cover. And how about klean jazz with the 100 nude bicycle racers. I don't mind tool but there are other good groups. And tool does have its own unique style. But that is what makes a great band is their own unique style.. like I believe Iron Maiden is able each guitarist pay plays a second faster than the next one. They get an echo effect from it.. I could be wrong but it does seem that way. And I do recommend the genetic repo Opera. That's a unique one.

Tool is a unique band I'll give you that. But read into the lyrics of Iron Maiden.. and if you really want to jump to the next level, Bad Religion you spend your time learning the lyrics of Bad Religion and Iron Maiden and I guarantee you will increase your intelligence. I would like to see you do one on punk. I grew up with bands like the Dead milkmen and Bad Religion and even though they're not punk but they call them punk The Ramones. The devil into the psychology of the punk rocker. If you're brave enough. We were the outlaws that came out of the 70s. And I like all music except for hate music. So I can listen to classical, Opera, country, Rock even some rap. I would never seclude myself to one type of music. And I don't suggest any of you do. Music is one of the greatest creations that humans discovered. But I'm going to watch your show a little more and see what else you have.

@psychologyofrock I would like to look at the Ramones. I never considered them punk. More than they were just kind of a 50s band that created their own sound. My own personal opinion and Ramones is my favorite band. But I think Ramones are more rockabilly. And the best thing about it if you're a guitar player is you only need to know three chords and you can play any romantic song. I've seen a lot of different shows from the Cramps to Ozzy Osbourne but the two times I got to see the Ramones once he started singing he didn't stop until the end of the show. Joey never did the welcome to whatever area he's in or you know all the platitude that other singers do. Joey just sat there and sang. I did get to meet Dee Dee Ramone once and all we talked about was cars. But that was back when he was still using. But I think the Ramones deserve their own category they're not punk they're not rock they're punkabilly.

@ Well, you most certainly know your Jung. Those two types are unique and are often compared to an optimized Ying & Yang. Keep up the good work! As for other songs: Forty Six & 2 (Very familiar, but many videos have been done. Tons of Jung content, but many other avenues to explore.) Pneuma (Not as well known, but exploring singularity & the historic reference would be fun!) Wings for Marie (Easy to digest content for viewers that don’t want to go deeper than Freudian thinking.)

I have a few good ones to look up. The Ramones, David Bowie, Bad Religion, and if you want one with art do Pink Floyd. How about doing the band Queen I love to remind current day people that we didn't care about a man in a dress. Or even though he's not technically Rock Boy George I love to remind the newer generations that we did all this trance stuff and we didn't care. We had no problem with cross-dressing and trans community we had studio 54. And I just like to remind new humans young humans that we did all this crap that you're arguing about today. But then again in the 80s we love music and in the seventies we love music. That's what I think the problem with modern music is it's lost its soul.
