@wolfumz
@wolfumz 5 күн бұрын
@@TeeheeTennessy yeah, I don't share many political opinions with Rick, God love 'em. Keep in mind, too, these videos are edited. If Rick rambles, or takes a long time "setting the table" for a question, then you just edit it out. But Rick's gift is that he takes his professional experience, he uses it to dig into his guest's process. When he makes some little comment or steers the answer somewhere deeper, with Rick, you now Rick can match whatever depth the guest can offer (ie, "I asked joanie Mitchell this ..." and "when will you use a piano, in your writing?", we know Rick could also give interesting answers to the same prompts).
@TeeheeTennessy
@TeeheeTennessy 4 күн бұрын
@@wolfumz I was more refering to his conservative views on music xD. I suppose he's pretty liberal otherwise, but he craps on everything he doesn't understand like his parents' generation crapped on his music. It's why I stopped watching him for the most part :) The interviews are still very interesting though because he gets nerdy with some artists I love.

Maynard's work ethic is remarkable. I've always really admired that about him. Always moving, never complacent. And for as great of a singer as he is, I don't know if he gets enough credit purely as a songwriter. Some of his writing is so poetic. My favorite Maynard lyric: "Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to life an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here." (Tool- Right in Two) Never stop, Maynard!

Rick is literally the best interviewer in this space. We get to hear inside the writing process in a way that only Rick seems to bring out of artists. I feel its because he is able to bridge the gap between an artist's creative and technical understanding and the audience. Rick seems to make artists feel so comfortable to talk so openly. I love this series. Great work Rick! Maynard is one of my all time favourite artists. His music changed the entire way I think about musical expression. His vocals are a powerful instrument that creates a counterpoint to help form the arrangement rather than simply following the melody. Hearing Maynard talk so freely is something special. Fans don't get to hear this very often. We appreciate it.

This is unbelievable. If you could do one of these Maynard chats a year, that'd be great. :) Edit: This is Maynard's best interview yet. It's amazing to see him happily engaged in a discussion about music. This is incredible. Thanks, Rick, for all you do.

What we do to have sit down interviews like this with the greats from the late 60’s through early 80’s if they had been done in the 80’s. These are just some great documents for present and future fans of these artists.

We were always tribal. In the 90s I was a metalhead, my friend was a townie, and another was an indie kid. Music was way more tribal back in the day than it is now.

You're right, back in the 80s it was a bit more segregated as a metal head back then people were staying in their lane I'd get static for playing funk and R&B going to punk shows. The 90s were a welcome change

100%. I agree that it may be easier to get stuck in an echo chamber now, but you can still get out of it: go listen to radio. Radio is culty though, so listen to different radio. Music's always been tribal because people are inherently tribal. I don't think that's a streaming-platform-specific problem
@BOMEFSY
@BOMEFSY 10 күн бұрын
That could also be due to how people got their music. Back in the day you listen to the radio, bought cd's, tapes, or vinyl's. Now you just a subscription to a service or use youtube. Far more accessible.
