I lived less than 10 minutes walk away from there for 20 years . Thanks for the nostalgia. Next time try The swan in Twickenham about a mile away. Beautiful walk along the river and another flooding beer garden .

I've always liked Richmond, it is such a quirky place! As a teenager, I used to walk for miles either across the huge park with its herds of deer and back up the river towpath, or vice-versa...

@@rachelwalker7091 The 2015 flooding in Leeds also got close to demolishing the bridge at Tadcaster, half of the road across a few arches crumbled and fell into the river. A bridge at Elland was also damaged, and in the Calder Valley - Elland and up to Todmorden, the 2015 flooding was the FOURTH serious flooding in the valley, in less than 20 years or so, up to 2015. in scenic steep sided craggy Calderdale Valley; Walsden, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Luddenden Foot, and Mytholmroyd (pronounced My them royd) all get flooded - two to three feet of water in the shopping streets. There was a white board next to the front door of the Dusty Miller pub at Mytholmroyd with flood levels marked, that was washed away by the third flood. The Richmond 'pub-that-floods' could be noted as fun, but for the fourth flood in Calderdale, in 2015, the Mytholmroyd Dusty Miller pub was flooded under water right up to the ceiling of the ground floor, bars area. A Shoulder of Mutton pub in Mytholmroyd, next to Elfin Brook, was also flooded, with a torrent of the rising stream next to it smashing through all of it's doors and windows, and streaming through the pub

I find it odd how things suddenly become like a viral trend these days. I think this is like the 5th or 6th time recently that I’ve been recommended a video/story about this pub. I’ve lived in London for 27 years and used to work nearby, visited couple of times and it was always amusing but never thought of it as being a real ‘tourist attraction’ or anything like that - which it seems to be now because of instagram and TikTok. Also last time I went there (10 years ago?) we saw a dead dog floating in the slipway next to the pub - was a bit off putting…. Other than that nice pub and video. Also there is another pub at nearby Strand on the green which has these massive metal doors at the front of the building to manage the flooding. Also worth a visit.

How mad is that! I thought we had plenty of tide problems on the river where we live - ours can be 10m tides coming in off the Irish Sea where it meets the river mouth between Fleetwood and our village on the opposite side.

3:21 Pedantic prat here: a lock further UP river! But I just wanted to say that these riverside pubs are even better for having this mini flood tide "USP" if you're lucky enough to turn up in a boat. A genuine novelty to post about rather than the usual underwhelming waste of time that practically every post promising the best/worst/funniest/most unique experience cheats us with these days. Looks like you enjoyed yourself up here in that London. You see folks, it can be done and we're not all nasty bar stewards!
