Wow! I remember hearing about Essays after 80 back when it came out (like ten years ago)

You guys have really put me on to a lot of indie publishers! I’d love to buy directly from their websites but it can be tough because I am in Canada. Shipping is crazy and some like open letter don’t even ship here

I’m always wanting to say that whatever works for you for reading is the best thing. But I kind of think this habit of reading multiple books at the same time is an Internet era phenomenon. As an older dude I can’t imagine it. And in my mind, something must be lostwhen not following a consistent thread all the way through. But for us old dudes it’s a very disconcerting thing to hear about and imagine.

For me I don’t really consume other media often, so I usually will be reading one genre fiction and one literary fiction simultaneously but anything above two at a time I would lose something I think. I have been reading this way since before smart phones / everyone having a pc in their home.

I don't necessarily think it's an Internet thing. I usually have 2-3 books on rotation. I have a main read, which is usually longer, or 'pithy' for reading during the day, but when I go to bed, I read something else which is something lighter and 'fluffy' and not so heavy. I sometimes have a book in the car, which I can read for short stretches, like when I am waiting around for an appt (like doctor or dentist), or meeting somebody and get there early. Nothing on the internet has made me go to this paradigm. It just fits my lifestyle. If I replaced my former TV time with a book (my main read), or my radio time with a book (my vehicle book), then this fits perfectly. How to read more books? Turn off the TV/phone and radio.

I used to be against it too, but I had a conversation with someone that compared it to watching different TV shows. Sometimes I’m in the mood for something serious with 45-60min episodes that require my full attention. Sometimes I’ve had a long day at work and want to throw on a sitcom than I can mindlessly binge. I try to balance my reads to make sure they’re different enough to scratch various itches without interfering with each other
