In Greece the arcade version of the punisher was very common and very much loved! Every arcade place used to have it.

Another nice video. Love The Punisher arcade game. The funny part of paying 500 all told for the board and repair, is that's about what you can expect to pay for the Genesis version, if you want a truly complete copy that includes the temporary tattoo.
@ScarletSprites10 ай бұрын
Wow, I had no idea the Genesis version was that expensive. I’d have figured that was a pretty common title.
@ZilogandMoto10 ай бұрын
@@ScarletSprites Late release on the console, only console port, and never got a "greatest hits" version. Without the tattoo it's a little more sane, usually about 350 for a copy with the manual. Had it come out two years earlier, and there been a SNES port, it probably wouldn't be so bad.

This is definitely one of the better post Double Dragon beat-um-ups. I remember when these Marvel comic themed games started making their way to arcades I frequented, but most of these you would see down the Jersey Shore because they had massive Arcades with incredible variety and all the new games. It was always fun to go back to school in September with tales of the games we found over the summer. Games like Captain America and the Avengers from Data East and Spiderman the arcade from Sega. Imagine if things had taken a different turn... and Data East or Saga had maintained the exclusive Marvel license and not Capcom moving forward. Would they still be major players today?
@utubepunk10 ай бұрын
Jersey Shore must've been awesome back then!

Nice score on an expensive pcb! I remember when I had to desuicide my punisher pcb years ago, the only option was to mod the board by cutting a trace and running a jumper wire plus burning unencrypted roms and dealing with the batteries. It’s nice to see there is a way to keep the board more original. I still have the original roms too.
@ScarletSprites9 ай бұрын
I know exactly the method you’re speaking of. I read about instances of people now trying to reverse that and drop the original roms back on. Definitely a good time for the arcade hobby, lots of new tools being rolled out.

The CPS1.5 boards are expensive. I bought mine from my friend, plus some other goodies like a Gamest mag, an SSF2 camera, and SF2 ornaments and a Tecmo Stackers PCB for $1000. Getting that for $500 and phoenixing it is a steal.

Congrats on the find! Punisher was a favorite of mine in the 90s. My local skating rink had it alongside SF The Movie: The Game, and i put nearly as much time into these cabs as i did with actual skating. I rarely heard Punisher mentioned after the arcade era up until Arcade1up put it on their MSH cab. It is one of Capcom's better beatemups imo, along with AvP. I think they just get forgotten about since they rarely get re-releases nowadays due to licensing difficulties, compared to other capcom arcade titles where there is a new collection release every console gen.

Is the mega Drive/Genesis version the only port of this game? I guess home systems weren’t powerful enough to run the actual arcade game at the time and licensing probably prohibited it being ported to other systems later on that could.

I got an untested Captain Commando that has this openkey board already installed under the C board. It will boot to test mode, and when I exit test mode it will just go back to test mode after showing the game's title and number. The test mode dipswitch is off so I'm not sure why it's booting to test. Is there anything different you have to do during the startup sequence once you have this openkey board installed? Congrats on getting Punisher at an affordable price!
@ScarletSprites2 ай бұрын
I wish I could tell you otherwise, but no, the board behaves as stock once installed. It’s just giving it a usable key to boot and run. The only thing I’d double check is that you’re using the correct key/region on the OpenKey. Aside from that it may just be a board issue.
