The Punisher is a third-person shooter video game developed by Volition and released by THQ in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Microsoft Windows; a mobile phone game was also developed by Amplified Games. The game stars the Marvel Comics antihero, The Punisher. After his family was murdered by the Mafia, Frank Castle devoted his life to the punishment of criminals. Players take control of the titular ruthless vigilante to track down criminals and kill them.
The game's story is a loose mixture of the 2004 film, as well as the Vol. 4 (2000) and Vol. 5 (2001) of the comic books. Actor Thomas Jane reprises his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher. The game features many cameo appearances from Marvel Comics characters, such as Iron Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Matt Murdock (the alter ego of Daredevil), Bushwacker, The Kingpin and Bullseye. Also present are several characters from the Welcome Back, Frank storyline such as detectives Martin Soap and Molly Van Richtofen, the Punisher's neighbors Joan and Spacker Dave, Ma Gnucci, The Russian and General Kreigkopf.

Fat people taking more damage before dying is actually accurate. In an issue of The Punisher Warzone, Frank had a shootout in a morgue with a hood. Frank picked up a fat cadaver to use as a body shield, and the hood picked up a skinny one. The bullets passed right through the skinny cadaver and Frank's reply was, "And that's why you never hide behind a skinny guy." So the mechanic IS canon.

Those flashbacks are the only collectibles in this game (I think) , also Frank has different replies to them, for example if you get the "I'll go straight, I promise!" flashback and you decide to kill the guy Frank will say "Bones, promises, both break." BUT if you knock the guy out (yes you can do that by pressing N when you are holding them as human shields) Frank will say "Keep that promise."

I know that sometimes Frank has multiple replies for the same flashbacks. For instance, when the one that says “You’re gonna burn in Hell”, as Frank does the execution, I’ve heard him say “I’ve been there, and now I’m back.” And I’ve heard him also say “You first.”

Part of the epic enjoyment for me at the time was that I was still riding the high of the Tom Jane Punisher movie that year... and the fact that he voiced him in the game(to seasoned perfection) made it feel like some kind of sequel spawn of the movie and comics.

I grew up reading Punisher comics, and this game and the Thomas Jane movie were the most faithful to the character. Still probably in my top five favorite games

8:10 The fact that fat guys can take more bullets than their less rotund mates is a reference to a bit at the start of "Welcome Back Frank", Garth Ennis's first run of the character. During a battle in a morgue, both Frank and a mafia gunman grab corpses to use as human shields, and Frank monologues that it's wise to stand behind fat guys in a firefight. He demonstrates this by using an obese body to soak several bullets then kill the gunman by shooting right through the thin body he is using for cover. Yes, obviously being fat doesn't mean you'll SURVIVE being shot more, just that it will lower the chance of low muzzle velocity ammunition exiting you and killing the man behind you. The game is silly.

Don’t know if anyone’s said this, but the reasons why you’re punished for executions if because of the ESRB. They said that the interrogation scenes were too graphic, and that they needed to make the scenes black and white and that the players points be docked if they do execute the enemy.

Hey Gggman! I saw you a few times at Dwterminator's channel but never watched your videos extensively, but in the last few weeks I watched almost all your videos:) Quality content! I would have a review suggestion. Tresspasser ( or Jurassic Park Tresspasser) Its a first person shooter, it had a pretty robist physics systemfor 1998 and it was sort of open world with no hud. Wow I'm glad to see this game getting some KZbin review love. I've held onto my Xbox disc of it for years (play it on my 360 from time to time). It's really an underrated game. Certainly isn't a 5/5 title, but for a game staring The Punisher it's pretty dead on. Here's something you might be interested in: A majority of the plot toward the beginning to the middle of the game follows the Marvel Knights comic story arc Welcome Back Frank (which was also borrowed from for the Thomas Jane movie) penned by Garth Ennis. That coffin scene you mentioned liking so much is right out of it. The look of the Punisher in this is heavily based off Steve Dillon's art in many issues of the comic. Maybe slightly beefed up, but it's clear from the two loose strands of hair over his forehead and the permanent near-snarl on his face. ...Yeah, I might be a huge Punisher fan.

Hands down, without a doubt my absolute favorite video game from when I was a kid. It was literally absurd how many hours I would play that game. Also, the first game I ever beat hardest difficulty on, so it will always have a special place in my heart

I'm sure there's someplace you can find it. Check up on Amazon from time to time in case it becomes available again.

I LOVED this game back in the day!!! One of the best Marvel games ever made, for sure!! It's a shame that it isn't available on Steam or GOG, and an original copy is expensive AF here in my country, too. BTW, great review!!!

For the main menu issue, right click on the executable, properties, compatibility, and select override dpi scaling performed by application. The can fix a lot of those issues when you run a game at a different resolution

Gggmanlives yeah, it's a pretty good game, but could use some tweaking like points being earned instead of taken when executing the guys with the interrogation method or choosing a quick kill so you don't waste ammo or grenades just because Franks feels like, or making the boss battles a little less akward specially the Gnucci mansion one. As a side note i reccomend the auto shotgun or the shotgun for the Igor mission.

Any chance of a Battlefield 1 SP or Bad Company 2 SP review ? If i remember though you dont play BF games but those two SP portions of games are good.I never played them either till recently. Great review though as are all of yours. I still wish you liked Mad Max more but i one day i will get over it :)

The Punisher is one of the few games to be a perfect adaptation of the character, and also, imo, the best and most faithful representation of Frank in any media yet. He is a tactical genius and brutal, unstoppable killing machine, not the sensitive and effeminate cuckboy Thomas Jane and then the hysterical and un-tactical Jon Bernthal.

I remember finding this game in a bargain bin at one of those random stores that kinda sell a little bit of everything. It was odd finding it in the bargain bin since it was recently released a few weeks ago. I asked my mom to if I could get it, she was hesitant at first, seeing the pic of frank castle with a rifle and shit. As soon as I got home I loaded it up and oh man did I love this game.

Still got my pc copy that came with 3cds around. Simple yet faithful adaption of the character, it's one of the best punisher games (not that there's a lot of them, but still) Great review and I kind of expected you to review it in a positive way :D

For the interrogation times on PC, it may help a bit if you make circular motions with your mouse rather than going up and down; it gets a steadier pace even for people with higher FPS

I saw some videos about the "Interrogations" of criminals by Frank, and sometime even after the Flashbacks it may have the options to release them, just as it, he let the criminals go. I like it, there weren't the option on my PlayStation 2, but I like it, even if it against the very character. I don't know if it depend by region or consoles.
