I like your figure kitbash idea alot. I may just do that, since I have all the pieces to do it. I will say, I already did my most favorite version of Frank in figure form. It was the easiest kitbash, ever. I had bought one of those Punisher figs with the plastic trenchcoat from the Marvel Legends Epic Heroes Series. I HATED that figure body and trenchcoat, but it served its purpose later. So when they released the Marvel Knights figure wave with Netflix Bernthal, I took that Epic Heroes head off the figure and replaced the Bernthal head with it. I put a fodder bin assault rifle from one of the Winter Soldier figures, on his back with a custom sling from another figure, and took two fodder bin uzis and put one in each hand. This was my ideal Welcome Back Frank from the Garth Ennis/Steve Dillon comics and The Xbox Punisher game that I played the hell out of. Aside from the quirky humor, Dillon and Ennis really got the Hardboiled nature of Frank right, for me. All the humorous/sick twisted ways Frank killed the mob bastards was very entertaining, and I really liked his constant dour scowl, especially in the game, and I gotta say, Thomas Jane's vocal performance in the game was spot on perfect. It was gravelly and direct, which was what I was hearing throughout that comic series. Anyways, that Epic Heroes head was a direct riff on that comic/game version of Frank, which is what I really wanted my Frank Castle to look like. I also have the figures you have at the beginning of the video, I like them all. But my kitbash Frank has a special place on my shelf, next to my Silver Sable kitbash. Both of them dual wielding and firing off to either side, as if they're clearing a roomful of SCUMBAGS, together.

Dolph Lungdren take on " The Punisher " 1989 movie is underestimated - think any future film adaptation needs to be period piece set in the late 70s/early 80s . Great video mate👍

If it was up to me, that's the way I would do it. A period piece, mostly based on the Garth Ennis take on the character (his MAX run specifically) but also a bit of Jason Aaron's take too.

Saw a custom figure for sale on Ebay back in 2020. It used the Jim Lee body as a base - the guy kept the logo and leather thing, sculpted on some creases across the torso (skull too) and upper arm, made it look like Frank rolled the sleeves up painted the gloves to be a flesh colour the perfectly matched the face and used the Jon Bernthal figure's gun holding hands. The last thing he did was lightly sand beneath the waist to add texture to the legs, added a fee more creases and cuffs to make the legs look like combat trousers and swapped the feet to be the Bernthal's boots. Thing looked badass but would have cost £150 alone plus shipping, import and duty fees would have been an extra £50 - if I was lucky. Sadly let it get sold to someone else.

I had his first appearance, loved his suit but don't think I gave him much thought. I'm not sure when I realized he was an anti-hero and not a villain. But I do recall him going after the Kingpin in person because of a war on crime and getting almost beated to death which made me realize I had over estimated him and underestimated Fisk. But even then I never realized we were supposed to see him as just an intense hero (Charles Bronson in tights). And even though he would've fit in perfect with countless Golden Age superheroes (which would be interesting if in a scene he spoke to or about one of them), his becoming a touted superhero is one of the (many) thinks that personally made me drift away from comics by the late 80s. But when handled right, he is a complex, compelling and tragic character.

I feel in love with the Punisher around 1986... through War Journal comic so Dolphs movie was a dream flick when it came out. For me, it is still a guilty pleasure. Your figure looks great, mine would be based on an image from a childhood reading of War Journal, one where he is moving through the jungle, crouching low with his M16 forward, stalking another trained killer....

@@VashPlissken45 Basically, for supervillains, you need people like Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four or the X-Men. For street-level crime, you need people like Daredevil and Luke Cage, Hero for Hire. But for the lowest form of villainy, true pure evil, criminal scum that would make even the prior street-level heroes question their morals, you NEED The Punisher. That's why even as Marvel misguidedly turns him into a member of the Hood, a faction he fought against, The Punisher is still relevant even today. He's more than just a revenge fantasy. He's the guy who deals with the worst of the worst in what's arguably the best way possible. And honestly, who _wouldn't_ root for that?

I think the Punisher with the motorcycle was meant to be much more grounded, stripped down and "Oldschool" to a degree, with the older weapons that were produced in the 60's and 70's. Being super heavily armed of course is a staple for the modern Punisher, but there's something scary about what the Punisher can do to you with a machete or baseball bat. It's much more brutal, up close and personal. Also The Punisher using old Uzi's and a Tech 9 is just super cool!!

I might have to do this myself now. I always enjoy custom fix-ups, I think they make a display more interesting and personal. I put the head from the Punisher with the trench coat (epic heroes wave) and some black gloved hands onto the Netflix Punisher and I really like how that turned out. What I like best about yours is that the smaller head makes the character look bulkier, as Hasbro have a terrible tendency of giving larger characters bigger heads so they end up looking like a different scale figure rather than a large, intimidating character.

It even has trigger fingers, and the alternate head with headband has a way better 5 oclock shadow. since you are in the AU which means you don't have the same rules we have when it comes to action figures , we have a thing here in the usa that prevents a lot of action figures from being allowed guns, even though the characters have trigger hands which is something already made when the sculpting is being done, mcfarlane used to have guns with all their figures, dc and spawn alike but, because we had a new rule put in place, a lot of action figure based characters including dc ones were no longer allowed to have guns packed in with them unless they are military based or are considered adult based figures, meaning spawn figures can still have guns packed in with them cause they are considered too adult for kids. the group behind all this mess is like a bunch of parents who can't wait to bitch about something. hasbro doing their marvel figures the way they do sometimes they have to follow by certain guidelines even if the figure is done a certain way. the punisher figure you had there was being sold in walgreens which means even though it was an exclusive and came packed with weapons, hasbro had to make the decision of either pack in trigger hands that you could change out or leave them out all together. they chose to leave them out. see it's a legal loophole issue toy companies like hasbro and mcfarlane have to deal with. plus, punisher wearing a trench coat was so he could carry more weapons. which deadpool once asked him in the comics. cause he said when you make yourself look completely harmless, they will never see what you are really packing. elektra asked him about it before as well when they were apart of the thunderbolts. the punisher also wasn't always just the kill them all the time person, there were times he just beat the crap out of people as well. plus, when he began to team up from time to time with other heroes like spider-man, moon knight and so on, he began to go from killing and shooting the bad guys all the time to taking them alive so they can face justice. frank even became the new ghost rider looking after a baby thanos.

Great video! I'd kind of forgotten how much I enjoyed the Punisher in my teens, and I think you explained it well. The Punisher also had a pretty great resurgence in the mid-00s with the Jane movie and video game, but sadly, Marvel has been trying to distance themselves from this character ever since. Even though we got the Netflix show, that never felt like the Punisher to me. Again, I think you nailed that point as well. It's really a shame that Marvel is embarrassed of characters like Frank. Maybe it's because the MCU and the Marvel brand has become synonymous with family fun, but characters like Blade and Ghost Rider have been pretty much abandoned in the last 15 years, or even worse, rebranded. I don't know why, but Marvel clearly doesn't know what to do with mature characters and concepts anymore.

I totally agree with what you say. Different thing, but kinda similar to what happened to pro-wrestling in the WWE (WWF) when they went PG and family friendly. Just compare their mid/late nineties attitude era or ruthless aggression era to what it is today. I really miss the marvel knights and MAX brands, that was some good stuff back then, with guys like Garth Ennis and Sebastian Girner, creators, artists and editors who really liked the characters and the “dark” aspect of them, at the very least or worst they pushed those characters into a sin city-like noir or “grind-house” kinda way. Maybe dumb fun, but still dark and violent. Nowadays the art is way too clean an cartoonish and the stories are meh and the characters mere shadows of themselves. Every time I pick up a marvel comic-book, I feel disappointed by the style, art and writing. If there’s still some good stuff the I haven’t found it. All that matters to them is the MCU I guess….. Only decent punisher arc in recent times was the Rosenberg stuff when they gave Frank the war-machine Armor, but even that wasn’t as cool as it should have been. But that was also five years ago.

The Punisher is one of my favorite comic book characters as well, it started with the Wolverine crossover in Punisher War Journal #6. For me Frank is neither the average build of Bernthal or the giant roided out build of the Legends Punisher with bike, it's the build of the Jim Lee version that was done as both the Walgreens exclusive and the Retro carded version. The Walgreens version is probably the best out of the box, with the straps and gun selection but, the Retro Carded version has trigger fingers and slightly better painted heads.

In '90s comics, every dark hero wore a trench coat, had a stubbly beard, wore sunglasses, and many long hair (sometimes with a ponytail). It was as if every comic book writer and artist was hooked on the Highlander or Renegade tv series, and wanted to bring that same vibe to comics. As a result, ever character began looking the same. This was one of the things about the 1990s comics that I disliked the most. Characters began looking like each other, instead of being the unique, indiviual looking characters that they were originally. Unique looking characters are memorable, why similar and copycat characters are absolutely forgettable. As far as the Punisher goes, I'm a fan of his original look (minus the headband). The black and white with skull works for me. I'm a long-time fan of Mack Bolan, the Executioner, and Marvel swiped Bolan's look, backstory, and about ever other aspect of the character to create the copycat Punisher character for his appearance in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. That's well-known, and was acknowledged in interviews. The fact that the Punisher is not an original is not disputed. The one thing that was unique to Frank Castle's look that Mack Bolan never had was the iconic white skull and white boots and gloves. This is why I prefer this look above all others. It's the only look that's uniquely his. That says, "Punisher" to me. If he's just wearing fatiques and military gear, he's really just Mack Bolan with only someone else's name.

Personally I think Punisher is even more relevant today. Society at least here in the US has broken down even more. I get it I’m old and my thinking is out of touch with todays jelly-filled fat for brains thinking. No I have no intention of emulating his approach to the problem.

For some reason Hasbro always screw up gusn for marvel legends. Either functionless holsters or ridiculous gun designs.

Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his friends painted the symbol so much around Iraq the Saddam regimes intelligence people went to great lengths to figure out what exactly this symbol was! To some people he represents a psycho who just picks up a gun to solve a problem but as time went on it was more that he represented the idea like Batman, an ordinary man who just has to do what he can to fight back

All the latter year "deep dive psychoanalysis of the Punisher" garbage ruined the character. He was a vigilante, plain and simple, and should have stayed that way. Mike Baron knew how to write him. Nothing else was ever needed. But agendas and egos got in the way, and Marvel destroyed a great character. Pepe's creator tried to kill him off as well...
