Another curious tale about Father Brown which digs into journalism as it was/is really practised, the family history of the Dukes of Exmoor, the ever present theme of disguise and disguises and the minor medical outcome of having a decanter bashed into the bonce.
It's a weird one but some rather interesting moments: the usual curates egg.
Because today I had numerous things to do and worry about I took a running jump at the pronunciation of 'cicatrice'. I have not to this moment looked it up in a dictionary. So if it's correct then 'huzzah' and if incorrect I say with some force 'tough'. That 's what you're dealing with here folks.
On a technical note, while I have enjoyed the sounds made by the microphone the Aston Element, I have reverted back to my trusty Rode NT1, not the first model nor yet the latest, nor yet the NT1a. So complicated!
And there we are. Another Father Brown! Just as the evenings draw in a you can't decide whether to put on another cardigan or take a brisk walk up and down the stairs. Decisions, eh?
Geo-politicians - please fight it out among yourselves and leave the rest of us in peace.

After listening to numerous *Chesterton* tales I have to say he had a fine twisted sense of humor that has truth in it. Thank You *Greg* .

Posting before listening because there aren't many of us yet. Listened to the honor or Israel gow and literally had to leave the room I was in cause it was too dark and I was freaked out. Thank you Greg for this in advance! Told my priest he reminded me of father brown, he said "oh dear....." blinked at me and shuffled away Ha!

The 1973 series is better and more like the published stories. Kenneth More had been a famous 'film star' in the black and white days of British Films

This is another great Father Brown story! The first time I read it, I guessed that there was nothing wrong with the duke's ears, but not the rest. That's a great twist at the end, and I enjoyed it immensely! Thank you for this story and the great narration!

Before watching this, I have 2 predictions: 1. The narration is excellent. Because it always is! 2. In the story, somebody dies. Because this always happens in a Father Brown story, doesn't it? (Gives me a new appreciation for Doyle's variety in crimes and outcomes, that's for sure.)

Stop being bitter. It's in the nuance not the obvious. Fair enough however. Yet, I'm a huge fan of this series myself.

@@arborymastersllc.9368 Haha I guess I *was* a little bitter after one of the Father Brown stories ended with a death that was unnecessary, in my opinion. I do appreciate how Doyle shows restraint when it comes to how often the worst-case scenario plays out, at least in his Sherlock stories. Mostly he manages to end them somewhat happily. And my prediction about this story did turn out to be correct!. That said, I do quite enjoy the stories and found some profound wisdom in the priest's advice near the end.
