Interesting note, this scene wasn't really a failure, they allude to him making some important contacts at the end of this scene in the form of people handing him business cards. The CEO didn't give him his retirement portfolio, but he certainly gave him intimate access to other executives.

I remember feeling this way in business school a time or two. I was 24 and broke but I had chances to speak to people who had the potential to change my reality, change my world, open doors for me, if I could say the right words in the right moment in the right way. It was kind of surreal.

I felt that way during business school, but then when I started to actually work as part of an Equities and Derivatives sales team I actually felt like every single person I talked to could open doors I could've never imagined were there to begin with. I'm not from the USA, I'm from Brazil, and ever since I was a kid i loved this movie and the way he just strives for better no matter what. Being black in the stock market is a different challenge, having to prove your worth everyday, while the reward may not always be the same. I swear this movie talks to me in so many ways, it kinda makes me reminisce for something that I'm still going through.

I think this is literally the only movie where even jokes become serious sobering moments. Christopher says 'we don't have a car' in such a hilarious moment, in front of a CEO, and that would normally be an extraordinarily funny scene. However, we don't do much more than smile because we know that Chris is literally BROKE right now, and we feel really sorry for him and afraid of his situation. Brilliant film-making, honestly.

I love this movie, and what cracks me up about this scene is that it's suppose to be shot in the 80's, but all the 49er branding and logos are from the present day. Just noticed that.

rejection is such a hard thing to take. i remember working on commissionn.. being rejected is a normal thing. but every once in a while you really have to work up a courage to ask. and driving your energy up, only to be shot down sucks hard. especially when the person is just not having it that day. most of the day i felt like i was crushed. hopeless. this scene hits hard for me.

Good thing though is right after the rejection, you see Chris giving out A LOT more business cards to, potentially, more clients

@@daakudaddy5453 you seem like the type to give advice to things you dont know about. its natural to feel bad after a rejection.. specially if its a summer job. i didnt write it on my first comment but it was a part time job.. also i was a shy person back then. i dont walk around not caring about the things around me. or saying edgy cool things like idgaf. so yeah more power to you if you dont feel anything after rejections. i bet you're the type to be really aggresive after rejections. that if a chick says no to you.. you switch to hating on her.. or whoever rejected you.. i rather be crushed than aggressive. cause i know itll subside.

Every possible meeting even if it's failure at the end, is not a failure. Everytime it gives you something. If it's contact or thought that you realized on that meeting can change your thinking and make you even better person at something. That's why im not don'ter im a doer! If someone asks me to go somewhere, even i feel i dont want to but i can, i go, because then after the day, i sit down and realize im glad i went there... Dont be a donter, do be A doer ;)
