Did you learn this song around a campfire? This tune was originally sung by the soldiers of WW1 & WW2 and based on a traditional song from England. In honour of Remembrance Day let's sing it together and if you have an ukulele, strum along.
'The Quartermaster's Store' is song 074 in my on going song series with a vintage-vibe.
When I first learned 'Quartermaster's Store' at camp I thought it was called 'Corner Master's Store'. In the army in WW1 the quartermaster department was responsible for stores and supplies. It's common in the oral tradition to play around with the lyrics which adds to the fun of this song. The chorus for many, including myself, would of been our first exposure to harmony singing in the choral tradition with it's lyric line being sung in various ways.
