I hate how they treated the "Background" kingdoms. The stormlands, Riverlands, Reach, Westerlands and Vale are basically forgotten and In the Westerlands and the Reach's case, consigned to a single castle that is apparently just easily accessible. Fair enough, they tried to explain how they managed to get into Casterly Rock, but Highgarden is like in the centre of the Reach. Remember that time when Robb was moving into the Westerlands and had to use a hidden trail, at night, that he only found because of Grey Wind, to get around a castle and attack the army. Apparantly now you can just march an entire army through multiple castles and reach the capital unnapposed. It's not even as if the Tarlys defecting would have helped considering their land is to the south near Dorne. Also, why is the surrounding area of the castle completely flat and barren of life? It doesn't even look like there's a road I miss when things actually made sense.
@melrenfrusc4 жыл бұрын
And why Daenerys never paid them a visit? She could've made alliances with the River lands and the Vale. Edmure was in prison for years and the Vale was left alone by Littlefinger. In Essos she was always in contact with the slaves so she should've walked among the commoners to see their needs, to show them she was different from Cersei, that she cared for them, something like Margaery did to be loved. They kinda forget that were people living in Westeros on season seven.

The Stormlands... I found it extra stupid, when in S08E04 Daenerys asks who holds Storm's End and no one knows in that entire hall... not even Varys... the man that knew who ate what at dinner 20 years ago had no idea who held one on the strongest castles, so close to the capital with a massive strategic advantage for anyone holding it. It was treated like it was part of the sea. So... what? They just let it empty... there must have been minor lords in the area with their eyes on that prize. So she gives it to a random blacksmith unlegitimised bastard... with no army of his own... no experience in governing... barely any money... so the lords there see this nobody show up and claim lordship... Won't they be like: oh, you're legitimised? What? By the Queen that destroyed our capital and who's dead now? How about no! Better still, how about we kill you right here and now? Watcha gonna do about it lowborn scum?

When they stopped giving shine to the smaller characters, Greatjon Umber, Richard Karstark, Kevan Lannister, Mace Tyrell etc... that was when I knew the show was no longer loved by DnD. D&D are such complete hacks they apparently can't even figure out the very first rule of creative writing: Show, don't tell. If your character is acting intelligently, you _never_ need to have anybody tell them how smart they are. They also can't write characters more intelligent than themselves. Hence every instance of Sansa being "smart" is just her complaining about the men around her being stupid, while offering zero actual solutions to the problems. If only D&D had actually acknowledged their own complete incompetence at this level of writing and hired a lead writer capable of doing these characters justice, we might had a Sansa who was _actually_ strong and intelligent.

To play devil's advocate for this scene, in the book lady Catelyn was shown to know how the defenses of her anchestral home works, and how the production of armor and weapons is important. So there is precedent for a lady of a castle to know about how to better equip the men defending such castle. Especially as with the possible absence of the lord husband, and unless a castellan is selected, the ruling of the castle would fall in her hand. Now, stopping playing devil's advocate: this scene is so stupid. Catelyn had been a lady of a castle for more than 15 years, and her husband had been to war twice, so she had ruled Winterfell in his absence. Sansa has been: a child untill she was ~13, then a prisoner, then she was in the Vale, where i doubt littlefinger let her out of her sight much or let her know the armorer, then she was sold to the bolton, then she fled to castle black, and then is now. She had been in a castle in a position of power for what? 2 weeks? How did she learn all of that stuff. Also: the advise is fucking retarded. The armor doesn't need to be warm. The people inside the armor need to be warm. So insted of putting some leather on top of the armor, why not give warm clothes to wear under the armor. Also also: there are only two ways to put armor over a breastplate: stretching it and fixing it with rivets, or glueing it. The first method seems awfully long to achieve correctly and awfully easy to undo. And the second method is even worse. You know what glue does in freezing temperatures? It freezes. Making the leather brittle and hard. Smartest person i know my ass

We'll cross that bridge when we get to the river. For now, in the show's present continuity, Jon knows Bran is alive as Sam told him in season four.
@trentonmcclintock78364 жыл бұрын
Well just because jon was told back in season 4 that theon didnt actually kill bran, that doesnt mean he cant say " i thought bran was dead" in season 7. He still hasnt seen him, a lot of time has passed and he knew that bran was beyond the wall with only a couple friends to protect him... im sure jon probably did think bran was dead.

Bran: "I can never be lord of anything." I wouldn't be surprised if making Bran the king was yet another spontaneous decision of the writers, while writing season 8. If this was George's decision, I imagine he would've had a better reasoning than: "Bran's got the best story, ya'll!"
@chasm6714 жыл бұрын
Or he was planning to make sure Bran actually *had* a story, let alone the best one, before making that asinine excuse.
@emh88494 жыл бұрын
I remember younger bran being really good at managing his people and making the right decisions as a ruler, this is when his brothers were away and he was left in charge of winterfell, maybe a continuation from this leads to him being the best possible king
@krissuyx4 жыл бұрын
@@emh8849 That would require the preservation of his character, otherwise we can just infer that he makes good decisions because he knows everything about everything. I hope George doesn't make him a vegetable in the books too. I can't even imagine what his PoV chapter are gonna be like if he becomes an emotionless robot.

Just want to point out reeeeeeal quick that, no, Jon was not the first "to make allies of Wildlings and Northmen", because - at least in the Song - the Starks allied with and/or subjugated several different Wildling tribes in the past to combat a number of Kings-Beyond-the-Wall and even contenders for power in the North. Jaime taking Highgarden is still so ridiculous so many years later. They couldn't write in a siege even though there obviously would be one since... if there had been one Dany could've flown in with her dragon and decimated Jaime's forces which she does next episode anyway. And their explanation is that the Tyrell soldiers are obviously not great because their sigil is a flower... forget that theyre the second wealthiest house and the show established how living under wealth creates better soldiers due to their proper training and access to armor and weapons, plus Loris being previously able to at least go toe to toe with the mountain in tourneys.

Thank you for pointing out that Sansa is actually not that smart, because this has been driving me crazy for two seasons now. She is manipulating like Cersei, for sure, but just like Cersei - she is not SmArT.
@angelspartanessheavenden26744 жыл бұрын
I agree with the Sansa part but Cersei is smart. She's just not nearly as smart as she thinks she is, and her other bad habits and bad character traits take away from her intellect. She drinks too much, she is cruel, she suffers no slight, perceived or otherwise. These things make her act in malicious ways, not intelligent ways. But you just have to look at her constant scheming, pay attention to her inner thoughts during her POVs, (she's constantly taking into account details and info about a slew of lords, ladies, knights, and noblepersons and figuring how she can manipulate them), and consider the fact that a majority of the most iconic lines in the series were uttered by her, and you'll see Cersei is smart. Just her drunken, evil, bitch-ness overshadows it.

Dismissing Casterly Rock as worthless without its gold mines goes against the world building of earlier seasons and the books. The loss of an ancestral seat is a major morale blow, since the loss of Winterfell demoralised Robb's army and delegitimised his rule, and Stannis preferred starvation to surrender at Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion, and the Lannisters defended King's Landing because it was the traditional capital. And if Dany could fly all the way beyond the wall in time to save Jon and his squad, why couldn't she fly to Highgarden before her allies were killed?

Sansa season 1-4 gets called stupid but does smart things. Sansa season 7 gets called smart does stupid things. Honestly once that Sansa for fucked up reasons has Jeyne Pools storyline shit was over and Littlefinger told her, IN HER FACE what his plan was. I thought great! Now season 7 will be Sansa having to find a way to get rid of him without exposing herself about the whole Lysa Arryn lie and while Littlefinger doesn't find out and can do something about it. I mean he told her he wanted to Iron Thrones (makes no sense, but ok) and Jon is clearly in his way for that. Sansa even looks at Littlefinger at the King in the North scene and cleary has the face of: oh shit, Jon is in Littlefingers way, I'll have to get rid of him, before I loose another brother. And then it takes a whole season of nonsensical fighting between her and Arya to finally take him down with Brans magic powers that just work however the writers want them to work. Instead of an actual smart plan on Sansas end. I mean it was clear they weren't able to write either Littlefinger or Sansa as smart as they are once they scrapped the Vale plotline, but come on!
