My theory is that the entire HBO series is ASOIAF as retold by Bronn while drinking in a tavern. Explains his extremely expanded role, his overachieving in regards to titles and positions (didnt actually happen, he is just exaggerating being master of coin, the reach, etc.) and the gaps in logic for things that didn't involve him. Random person: "How did they get a white to show the queen?" Bronn: "OH, ehhh, well ya see they killed the main one and all the others dropped dead too, except for one that the uhh, lord of light, ya ya, the lord of Light kept alive so they could show him to the queen." I hear people genuinely defend the show by saying. 'Just suspend your disbelief! You're watching a show about dragons, it's not trying to be realistic!' But that's not why GoT is popular. The way it subverted expectations by not only its realism despite the genre, but lack of plot armour, like in the real world, was amazing. I miss that.
@lastquarter39924 жыл бұрын
This argument baffles me, honestly. A show doesn't have to be realistic, true, but it has to respect its own rules, it's about coherence. If the show establishes that pigs fly, it's okay, we can accept it but if suddenly, they don't anymore, it doesn't make sense. Saying that a fantasy show doesn't need narrative coherence because dRAgOnS shows a lack of knowledge in terms of storytelling. It's not even about what the show is popular for. Of course you miss these things, it's basically what the show promised you and ignored in the latter seasons.

Ned Still hoped and intended for Arya to be a great Lady. He gave her a controlled environment to learn swordplay hoping this would give her an outlet for her tomboyish desires. It was an indulgence. Ned surely still hoped Arya would come to accept her role as she grew older. At best he would have allowed Arya to remain unmarried under his care, or after that, Robb's. That was really as far as he could have gone in terms of not forcing her into a role she didn't want. I know the ladies of Bear Island fight, but it's very unusual. There's no way Ned would have allowed her to go off on her own with a sword. Ned didn't necessarily think the rules were wrong, but his personal experiences made it harder for him to ignore Area's feelings.
@sealy_994 жыл бұрын
I would also argue that his personal experiences also make him more conflicted by allowing Arya to train with Syrio. Arya clearly resembles Lyanna to him, and he doesn't know whether his actions have made it more or less likely that she'll end up the same way.

Worst thing about this show is to realize that the entirety of season 7 and half of season 8 were used only to nerf Dany. She lost the Reach, Dorne, 2 dragons and "half" of all her armies. And in the end it was all pointless cause she ended the war in 2 minutes with only one dragon. What a waste.

It took me three or four tries to pause right on 26:53 but it was worth it. “Welcome to the thirteen frames of paradise. In this brief period, there are no barriers between our world and the parallel (misspelt ;)) dimension where Benioff and Weiss passed the helm of this show to someone who actually still had passion for the project and no contempt for their audience. Be still in the bliss of his fleeting realm” Best freeze frame caption yet.

D&D meant to have a meaningful message about rape victims, how they’re perceived by others, and how they survive beyond their trauma... but then they kinda forgot.
@niranjanrajesh10582 жыл бұрын
Doesnt matter coz gendry didnt get raped,people are retarded nowadays,every single thing is rape apparently. Gendry was clearly consenting to the sex,he was only against what happened afterwards which was torture. Not rape. There are dictionaries online,there are hard copies as well. Please pick one up,go to the letter r and check out the meaning.

Not only is that one zombie supremely lucky to be the only one not disintegrating, it also learns fear in that instant. Instead of just mindlessly attacking whoever is in front of it, it freezes and starts acting panicky. 10/10 excellent writing. edit: Oh, yeah, I forgot to add, that zombie then also conveniently forgets fear again in King's Landing when it just charges at Cersei even though she's surrounded by a bunch of soldiers and THE FUCKING MOUNTAIN.

It’s almost like they could have just had a WW battle at Eastwatch or something and had the fact they put a wight in a box to show Cersei happen offscreen in the aftermath so that when it pops out of the box for that jumpscare we’re actually surprised. Same result except the characters would have gone north for a sane reason instead of expressly going beyond the wall to shove a zombie in a burlap sack like this is a dungeons and dragons campaign where the DM lost control of his crackhead players years ago and is now on suicide watch.

Thoros' death in the show is so stupid. Like, book thoros makes sense. He's kind of a loose canon, they even reference in the show how we was one of the few people storming the breach on Pike. But in the show he's not nearly as drunk and brash as he should be. The show makes him look like someone who would hang back and watch the fighting, waiting for an opening. He shouldn't be attacking the bear.
@fuzzydunlop79284 жыл бұрын
They took our drunk pink priest and made him a fucking stoner. That said, Thoros has one of my favorite arcs of any of the tertiary characters in the books. He starts out one of the youngest sons of a Myrish merchant family chock-a-block with sons so for lack of any other real prospects he joins the church of Rholly, which is in itself interesting because we normally see ex-slaves orbiting around the church. He travels to Westeros to try and convert the pyromaniac king Aerys (and I think the subtext is that they sent him on a fool’s errand in the first place) - not only does he fail but he loses his faith. He instead replaces his faith with fighting and carousing and becomes slovenly and drunk, yet still clings to the appearance of Rh’llor as an identity thing, using cheap parlor tricks to play the part of the “carousing red priest”. He ingratiated himself with the new king and becomes quasi-legendary during the Greyjoy rebellion. Then, after magic comes back and he’s sent off into an ambush, he has a “come to Rh’llor” moment and has his faith reaffirmed. Much like Beric, Thoros gains new life and new zeal and believes in his faith and in his mission, his fat melting away as he fights his guerrilla war. Most authors would end a tertiary character’s arc right there but GRRM takes it further. (Minor spoilers for those who still care at this point) - Thoros still has his faith, but when we see him next Beric is dead and used his gift of life against Thoros’ wishes, reanimating the revenant of Lady Stoneheart. As something of an XO to the new leader, the entire brotherhood takes a darker turn and Thoros turns with it, delivering one of the best lines in the entire series “Some knights are dark and full of terrors, m’lady. War makes monsters of us all.”

What’s funny to me is that this whole nonsense could have been avoided if any of them had a lick of sense of the characters from the books. In Adwd Jon tries to use some dead wildling corpses and lock them in the ice cells at the Wall to see if they would rise as wights. The fact that none of them thought of anything remotely close to that is just ridiculously stupid. Plot contrivance it may be, but god at what cost?

Let's also take a moment to reflect on how sunny and, dare I say, pleasant the environment looks on their way to find a Wight. When they leave the Wall last episode, it looks so ominous and foreboding as the gate opens. I thought they said that Winter was here at the end of Season 6. I recall Ser Alliser talking about his ranging north of the Wall in Winter. Couldn't take your gloves off or you would get frost bite. Horses dying. Cannibalism. Just fortunate that Benjen's horse endured it. Wonder if it, too, was blessed by the Children. Not even the slightest attempt by the Hound to eat Thoros. Something else I realized is that there is no mountainous region on the Eastern side beyond the wall and the entire episode should take place in the Haunted Forest. I know D&D kind of forgot the geography of Westeros with this episode. Forgetting that Westeros is the size of a continent when writing the Dany with dragons ex machina scene is the much bigger issue. Just another example of not caring about the source material.
