Imagine this line in the actual episode. Now Imagine what this would mean for the hokey haminess level of the episode. See, if D&D just put away their pretensions and went full James Bond/Resident Evil 4/Mission Impossible with this episode, this episode could have been a literal fountain of memes. They sure as fuck wanted an action-spectacle episode, so they shouldn't have weighed the dialog down with the...tone, *everything* about the previous seasons.

My theory is that the entire HBO series is ASOIAF as retold by Bronn while drinking in a tavern. Explains his extremely expanded role, his overachieving in regards to titles and positions (didnt actually happen, he is just exaggerating being master of coin, the reach, etc.) and the gaps in logic for things that didn't involve him. Random person: "How did they get a white to show the queen?" Bronn: "OH, ehhh, well ya see they killed the main one and all the others dropped dead too, except for one that the uhh, lord of light, ya ya, the lord of Light kept alive so they could show him to the queen." Person: "Also, if you're lord of the reach, why are you hear? And why is so and so living in your castle doing your job" Bronn: "Well I decided I didn't want it. Took too much time."

@@lokidoki525 she locked them because, even if they were her children, she was not stupid and understood they were wild animals that could hurt other human beings. As a queen, she can't be oblivious to the pain and danger her dragons may pose to her subjects. The Targaryens of old probably had training methods to keep their dragons in check, but Dany did not know of any. She did what she thought was best for the common people, with the little information she had about her dragons, and in spite of her own feelings. She only locked Rhaegar and Viserion because Drogon was unreachable, but at that point she really cared about them. She actually cries when she has to lock them up. It's after she returns to Meereen that suddenly R and V are like rented napalm drones and only Drogon matters.

I hear people genuinely defend the show by saying. 'Just suspend your disbelief! You're watching a show about dragons, it's not trying to be realistic!' But that's not why GoT is popular. The way it subverted expectations by not only its realism despite the genre, but lack of plot armour, like in the real world, was amazing. I miss that.
@lastquarter3992
@lastquarter3992 4 жыл бұрын
This argument baffles me, honestly. A show doesn't have to be realistic, true, but it has to respect its own rules, it's about coherence. If the show establishes that pigs fly, it's okay, we can accept it but if suddenly, they don't anymore, it doesn't make sense. Saying that a fantasy show doesn't need narrative coherence because dRAgOnS shows a lack of knowledge in terms of storytelling. It's not even about what the show is popular for. Of course you miss these things, it's basically what the show promised you and ignored in the latter seasons.

I mean if you really think about it this was foreshadowed because Jon has friends and also taht one scene where the brotherhood finds Aryan and Hot pie and Genders (Arya and her friends), was also foreshadowing, because the brotherhood are avid followers of Rhollor. They want to find Arya and her FRIENDS even though they should really be looking for the ptwp, but that is just a subversion of your expectations to goad everyone into arguing about the ptwp instead of seeing the subtler message that Friendship was the one thing the followers of the LoL are actually looking for (Arya and friends). -Dave and Dan at some point.

Ned Still hoped and intended for Arya to be a great Lady. He gave her a controlled environment to learn swordplay hoping this would give her an outlet for her tomboyish desires. It was an indulgence. Ned surely still hoped Arya would come to accept her role as she grew older. At best he would have allowed Arya to remain unmarried under his care, or after that, Robb's. That was really as far as he could have gone in terms of not forcing her into a role she didn't want. I know the ladies of Bear Island fight, but it's very unusual. There's no way Ned would have allowed her to go off on her own with a sword. Ned didn't necessarily think the rules were wrong, but his personal experiences made it harder for him to ignore Area's feelings.
@sealy_99
@sealy_99 4 жыл бұрын
I would also argue that his personal experiences also make him more conflicted by allowing Arya to train with Syrio. Arya clearly resembles Lyanna to him, and he doesn't know whether his actions have made it more or less likely that she'll end up the same way.

@sihollett

The answer to 2 is obvious. He'd been wanting to take down his little bro for ages. The little snot weasel. Plus Rhaegar killing his sis, and his son, would mean that Bran wouldn't hunt down the "they are related" story to overlay over their sexytimes, and so wouldn't become the holder of all stories for the Night King to easily erase them!

Not only is that one zombie supremely lucky to be the only one not disintegrating, it also learns fear in that instant. Instead of just mindlessly attacking whoever is in front of it, it freezes and starts acting panicky. 10/10 excellent writing. edit: Oh, yeah, I forgot to add, that zombie then also conveniently forgets fear again in King's Landing when it just charges at Cersei even though she's surrounded by a bunch of soldiers and THE FUCKING MOUNTAIN.

Thoros' death in the show is so stupid. Like, book thoros makes sense. He's kind of a loose canon, they even reference in the show how we was one of the few people storming the breach on Pike. But in the show he's not nearly as drunk and brash as he should be. The show makes him look like someone who would hang back and watch the fighting, waiting for an opening. He shouldn't be attacking the bear.
@fuzzydunlop7928
@fuzzydunlop7928 4 жыл бұрын
They took our drunk pink priest and made him a fucking stoner. That said, Thoros has one of my favorite arcs of any of the tertiary characters in the books. He starts out one of the youngest sons of a Myrish merchant family chock-a-block with sons so for lack of any other real prospects he joins the church of Rholly, which is in itself interesting because we normally see ex-slaves orbiting around the church. He travels to Westeros to try and convert the pyromaniac king Aerys (and I think the subtext is that they sent him on a fool’s errand in the first place) - not only does he fail but he loses his faith. He instead replaces his faith with fighting and carousing and becomes slovenly and drunk, yet still clings to the appearance of Rh’llor as an identity thing, using cheap parlor tricks to play the part of the “carousing red priest”. He ingratiated himself with the new king and becomes quasi-legendary during the Greyjoy rebellion. Then, after magic comes back and he’s sent off into an ambush, he has a “come to Rh’llor” moment and has his faith reaffirmed. Much like Beric, Thoros gains new life and new zeal and believes in his faith and in his mission, his fat melting away as he fights his guerrilla war. Most authors would end a tertiary character’s arc right there but GRRM takes it further. (Minor spoilers for those who still care at this point) - Thoros still has his faith, but when we see him next Beric is dead and used his gift of life against Thoros’ wishes, reanimating the revenant of Lady Stoneheart. As something of an XO to the new leader, the entire brotherhood takes a darker turn and Thoros turns with it, delivering one of the best lines in the entire series “Some knights are dark and full of terrors, m’lady. War makes monsters of us all.”

What’s funny to me is that this whole nonsense could have been avoided if any of them had a lick of sense of the characters from the books. In Adwd Jon tries to use some dead wildling corpses and lock them in the ice cells at the Wall to see if they would rise as wights. The fact that none of them thought of anything remotely close to that is just ridiculously stupid. Plot contrivance it may be, but god at what cost?

When they leave the Wall last episode, it looks so ominous and foreboding as the gate opens. I thought they said that Winter was here at the end of Season 6. I recall Ser Alliser talking about his ranging north of the Wall in Winter. Couldn't take your gloves off or you would get frost bite. Horses dying. Cannibalism. I know D&D kind of forgot the geography of Westeros with this episode. Forgetting that Westeros is the size of a continent when writing the Dany with dragons ex machina scene is the much bigger issue. Just another example of not caring about the source material.

It's beyond mindboggling to me that 'Beyond the Wall' is so highly rated.

I love your take on Sansa and Arya's argument. Its so hard to say that the GOT dialogues straight forwardly imply that rape makes you strong which is such a disgusting thing to say. It's reinforced in the conversation between Hound and Sansa.

0:57 Summer lasted for 288-299 which is one of the longest summers ever. Book Gendry was born in 284 so it would make sense he doesn’t remember Winter. Show Gendry was born in 282 so he was 6 when summer started, but the autumn might have been long.

This is spectacular 😂 new here and just got all caught up on your pisstakes. Loved every single one. 👏👏. Can’t wait for the next one. Will you be doing all seasons? This has quickly become my favourite channel so hope you are doing all the seasons 🙃

seasons 6 and 5 will get this treatment, maybe 4 will get something, but before that there's nowhere near enough bollocks to laugh at

On the one hand, I'm used to how good your pisstakes are. On the other hand, somehow, I'm always surprised anew as to HOW GOOD your pisstakes are. You're super funny, thoughtful and clever and your videos are each an absolute treat to watch.
