Thank you for posting this, PM Gillies was my favorite Piper of all time, his MSR's were just so musical, real pulse and feeling. Sadly Piping has become too mathematically mundane of recent years. He is missed.

Good to see the QOH competing, and the rare shots of Alasdair Gillies. My first pipe major retired to Alness in the late 60's - P/M Bob Hill (Scots Guards and Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) and his wife Vi.

Aye, the QOHldrs, best regiment! Met eith them as a young piper in the late 80ies, early 90ies, played in the RBL under PMs MacDonald (Benbecula) and Jock Riach, listened to the then young Alasdair Ghillies, superb pipers, if not THE best...

Tam Brooks I remember him teaching how to use and care for the Bren gun before NI in 1979. He was a character remembered by all that served with him.

Ouch! ......... QOH is the Queens Own Hussars! Your brother would have served in Osnabruck, Berlin, Sharjah etc -- I was in the Q O HLDRS at that time too and probably might well have known your brother

The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders are the very best and one of the oldest Scottish highland bands in the world. They are also distinguished members of the British Army.

The competition was held at Alness that year Mickie. I know as I was there as a roving reporter for the BBC. If it had been Inverness it would have been less hassle, as a non drive (stil am) I had to get a taxi all the way there and back :)

This is a rare video to see this fine regimental pipe band with their PM who died under tragic circumstances recently. The band was combined with that of the Gordons into The Highlanders in 1994.

There is nothing in the Queen's Regulations and Orders that says the maker of a military equipment cannot be displayed on the equipment itself. Just look at all the military vehicles.

@@Coldstreamer17 a simple wikik or google search will show you are wrong . There is a large photo of the the day in the regimental museum . There was never a Queen's Own Highlanders 2nd battn , but this was years before amalgamation , he was Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders .
