I was 18 stone and I’m nearly 13 stone 10 pounds and it’s taken me four months I am on weight watchers but I probably lost most of that weight from doing a lot of walking I can walk all day and I love it !!! I walk that exact route all the time that takes you straight up to Cissbury Ring

Thanks Richard for this great video - a rare piece of media truly reflecting the realities of life now in lockdown. As a long distance path walker, non driver, who used to rely on public transport to access the countryside I have found myself dependant on walking through suburbia to access the countryside for the majority of the last 42 weeks we have spent in various states of lockdown. We are so lucky to have our network of rights of way and also pockets of nature in parks and peoples gardens along the way. Although the lack of variety of routes available is getting to me, it is still far better to get out rather than just stay in for both ones mental and physical health.

Great video Richard. I enjoy walking for all of the same reasons that you do. It provides physical exercise and mental relief all in one go. Experiencing the weather on your skin and the sights and sounds of nature provides a link to something deep within us; it feels to me like a spiritual link to our ancient ancestors, and a time when humans were part of the natural environment.

Love walking on the ice and hear it crunching as you go. Yes walking no matter the season is great . Thank you for sharing.

Glorious! I am still convinced that that path could be thousands of years old as it is a natural high ground route between the coast and the two hill forts of Cissbury and Chanctonbury and beyond. The route certainly appears to pre date the settlement that became Worthing.

I am sure it is ancient - it is lovely to walk it.

Walking is a great way of meditating exactly as you say and I try to get a walk in every day for at least 30 minutes but generally an hour. I like it when my Missus comes with me but equally I do like to go at my own pace. She is always telling me to slow down and enjoy the view and I must admit, she has a point. It is a trivial thing but last night, out of the blue and whilst cooking, I was musing on William Congreve and this morning, you post a video with Congreve Road in it.

Beautiful shots of the frosted flora on your walk! I live on the coast of Maine in the United States and have a favorite trail I walk down just a few miles from my house. Lovely hiking trail through the woods that leads to a stunning rocky coastline. I see walking as a fantastic opportunity to meditate, I'll sometimes try to focus solely on the sensation my feet get from touching the ground. Leaves me feeling both mentally and physically better afterwards!

Richard, You are absolutely right!! Walking is sooo good for your body, and good for persons to keep walking each and every day, = meaning the older you are into your 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's; Walking is good for the body, and brain to keep your brain healthy, younger functioning, and better in memory. Around here there's the residential area that's ok, or the park, or drive to another part of the Park. Then a lot if people go hiking into the Smoky Mountains. .. Richard, You must be soooo fit., wish I could say that. Do exercise, walk every week, but Not enough! Will try to do Better.

What impressed me with this walk is the pace you have kept and that you are able to talk too. I felt relieved when you periodically slowed down perhaps to catch a breath or to do a close up. Thank you for getting me out in the cold bracing air vicariously just the way I like it! Although a few years ago I took long walks I would take a bus or taxi to a destination such as an appointment, shopping or for a weight watchers meeting and walk home but I let that habit lapse as I find walking downhill harder to do than it once had been. Last month I did do a forty minute walk and kept to a good pace until I reached the steep hill I started alright as I turned the corner onto the hill a group of Junior high students came up behind me shortly after I stepped aside so that they could pass as I continued I thought about the pain and didn’t pay any attention to the students until I stopped at the next cross street to check for traffic I looked down the hill and they were two blocks away from where I stood. I am glad I has stepped out of their way I can’t even imagine what mayhem could have happened if I had blocked their progress would that momentum have made for a nasty accident? I hope that after your Sunday walk you had a wonderful chunky soup to replenish all those calories you expended. Last year was my horrible year I had planned to resume the long walks beach combing as it’s a nice walk and stop activity punctuated by a gradual hill and another steep one, we will see if I can manage to actually get out and do it this year. I have taken a moment to think about dieting and the changes that I have made in the last two and a half months since Peter’s death. He had been a food hoarder I have given the upright freezer away but I decided to keep both of the refrigerators as the twenty year old one will likely out live the three year old one since the new appliances have been made to fail. I gifted the wine from two storage areas and all the home made soups and casseroles and the rest of the jelllies, sauces, spreads and the pickles until I had only the fruit and vegetables in the refrigerator. I have found since I quit eating white sugar , white potatoes and I use a extremely limited amount of white flour (i am kept sweet by my daily tablespoon of local maple syrup!), I am content with two meals a day. I often now start my day with a soup loaded with vegetables, ginger and garlic , homemade broth and around three ounces of turkey or chicken . A late afternoon meal could be oatmeal, nuts and fruit or a fish dinner. I try to have a balanced diet but almost completely home made. I have lost all the weight that had taken me from size eight to Fourteen over the last year and a half. I am glad that I have kept the smaller sized clothing as my favourite clothes shop has closed. Well as usual one long post, eye drop time and a few 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤔🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🤔🥶🥶🥶🤭🤔🤗🥱🥱🥱

What a wonderful common sense message about walking and how I feel for those who, for whatever reason genuinely can't. The various camera positionings in the opening minute (underpass) are perfection and make for such enjoyable viewing. You match Andrew White with ease Richard and he has the benefit of a cameraman. Keep up this great work.. The Quashettes!! What a word, what the devil rhymes with that I wonder !!

As ever another great video, well done for braving the cold Richard I imagine it took a while to film this one. I love all the frost covering the rooftops and trees ground makes a lovely wintery scene. I think I said in your last video. I love walking it helps me de stress and it's good exercise you get fresh air into your lungs and I love it. And I try to do a walk on my weekends off. I do it with my brother or girlfriend and in the countryside too so it's all good. Thankyou for another great walk. :)

Thought I had stumbled onto a 007 film (or something) there for a moment!😄 Liked the music!!! Yes it is a real blessing that your Country has maintained its ancient right aways/walking paths. Here in America, if they decided they want to put up a building or freeway or something, they would just bulldoze right over & build on top of it!🙄😞

That looks like Charmendean lane at the end? We don't realise how lucky we are to have such freedom of movement here. We have paths, tracks, ridgeways etc dating back to time immemorial. As for clothing, it has to be wool and cotton every time.
