I had an 18 ton Volvo for 15years. It had a night heater fitted as standard. I think you can buy something similar that's free standing and runs off a leisure battery. This will prevent condensation and everything getting damp. Another alternative is silicon bags that absorb moisture, these are available from caravan shops and some car parts shops.

Looking faward to the new V V V. Vobes Van Videos haha. The adventures of mr vobes in his van, I love that soup would be nice to eat on a cold winters night after being out all day in the cold, that would warm you up nice, I would also love one of those jumpers that lady knitted for you, my girlfriend also had the idea about what if its raining you could put a cover on the back. I've seen many vans more like construction vans that have like a retractable cover that's attached to the side of the van I don't know if you can buy one or they come allready on particular vans but you have a little pile thing and you wind it to open it and close it. So you could try getting one of them then in the summer you could put some chairs and stuff and have a little pic-nic while out in the countryside.

You know, the US and Britsh Army uses ready to eat meals. RTEs just need to be shaken and they heat themselves up pretty quickly. You can buy them at sporting goods stores, so you don't have to join the army. The British army also puts electric kettles in their tanks, and surplus heating pads and kettles are available at the same stores as the RTE meals. In America Butane is used in cigar lighters, propane is used in campers and homes. It's cheaper and burns more cleanly then Butane. I'm thinking your really need to look into converting your van into a proper camper!

A couple of thoughts I think the gas cylinder needs to be secured and I think you need a fireproof surround for the burner to avoid a stray flame setting fire to the surrounding area.Longer term you could remove the rear seat to enable you to install a vented cooking area and a smaller folding seat keep the videos coming

Like the new van and looking forward to your new adventures further afield but as an LPG engineer there are a few regulations about carrying gas for regular use (not including any appliances) in your van which you need to be aware of, firstly it must be stored in a sealed and securely fixed box preferably steel and secondly must also have a floor vent for escaping gas as it is heavier than air. The main difference between propane and butane is that propane has a lower freezing point and is better in colder climates and is generally easier to get whilst on “the road”. Keep safe

Thanks for the advice. I need to sort that out. :)

Morning all the Butane gas you were using is ok when use during Spring, Summer, and Autumn. My family and I have used it since 1970s. The other gas Propane is mainly used in cold temperatures. On you cylinder you use for your small stove you have, you will see that it has a mixture of both gas’s. Also check the government’s website on motor Carvans, if you are thinking of fixing gas to the van permanently.

LOL it is very fun to work out how to eat and move at the same time. Three suggestions if I may. 1) Spices have a long long history, shaping governments through war and economics. That's because a good spice will always put a dish that one little bit higher up. I would suggest creating a nice travel spice box (or purchasing one). 3) Desiccation like any form of food preservation is one of the oldest used (they are all the oldest used LMAO) but you can get dried veg mix, dried potatoes (flakes OR instant), dried egg powder and so on. While terrible to cook with as your only food source they can be great ways to add to a dish. For example, 1/4 cup each green lentils and rice and 1 to 2 tablespoons of dried mixed veg and 1 tablespoon coconut power does a good job. 8.23) Look into thermos cooking, it is what it sounds like and could be a way to help get you going. Make your morning tea and make extra hot water into a thermos with some split peas and barley and by the time lunch rolls around you're half way there.

How strict are the rules about where you are allowed to camp overnight? It would be a problem if you had to find a proper motor camp every time. Here in NZ we have tough restrictions on so-called "freedom camping" and I guess there are rules of some kind in the UK.
@lesleysilverstone28684 жыл бұрын
Richard, your cooking set up in the back of the van is a bit of a fire hazard. First the wooden board and then the closeness to the back of your bed area. When we had our camper van, which we never used the stove or cooked inside, we used to drag the picnic table allotted to our site under the back door which, providentially, opened upwards, like a built in canopy. I would suggest that you source a folding camp table. They are made of metal, fold up flat, and you could then just set that up just outside the door. You could also get a stacking camp saucepan set. Ours had a small fry pan and one large and one small saucepan. Just a couple of thoughts. Keep well and safe.

Steam from the cooking isn't going to do the interior of Mr Van much good Richard, let alone the smell. Less of a fire risk also.....I'd think again long term, folding bench outside maybe! Do me a favour though it's not the law (as not being used for work) showing stickers in the windows stating compressed gas is handy for us (fire-fighters). Also 2 x 10 ltr bottles is the maximum unless ventilated with a rotating rooftop device. Cylinders must be securely fix and upright, you may wish to check BS EN 1949:2002: As you can be subject to being stopped by Police if showing warning stickers.
