This song was the jam in high school. Late nights blasting this on the way home from hanging with friends. Wise and honest words were shared those nights amongst us.

For the people wondering what the song is about, the song is about leaving a relationship that isn't going anywhere. "If todays the day it gets tired.." is saying if today youre tired of trying to make it work, "Then todays the day we drop out". is saying then todays the day we end it. "Gave up my body and bed all for an empty hotel" is saying how the relationship ended even tho they werent completely emotionally ready to end it & be alone. Source: Brand New interview Jesse Lacey explains it

Wasn't that pretty much the entire theme of the first two albums? Because Jesse HATES the first two albums, especially the first, EXACTLY because it's always about relationships ending and I think he's a little embarrassed by how much teenage angst formed the basis of the first two albums... Plus I think it was over some chick he and the lead of Taking Back Sunday were fighting over... Could be hearsay but I think it's true
@Psychol-Snooper2 жыл бұрын
Definitely, but more specifically it seems to be about divorce, (there is a wedding and kids) and also keeping "the blood in your head" and "your feet on the ground" sounds a lot like advice not to harm yourself. All songs/poems really only mean what you feel when you hear/read them unless they are VERY simple. When you hear "Mary had a little lamb" that pretty exact. XD Unless it's actually the Virgin Mary, and the lamb was Jesus (the Lamb of God: The Holy Sacrifice.) I mean in Revelations it said Jesus' hair was white as wool. o.O

For me this song reminds me of my 1st love I was 19 she was 24 she moved from NC to TX and I followed, we lived in cheap motels and were saving up to get married we both had decent jobs I got paid 15 bucks an hour, I did everything for her and she left me for a rich guy that was related to the lady she worked for, I "gave up my body and bed, all for an empty hotel" and "wasted words" trying to get her back, now shes divorced and I make 400k a year, but that song always reminds me of her.

@MrCMEUP its about relationship problems Jesse Lacey (lead singer of brand new) explains in in an interview. its about leaving a relationship thats going no where. example: "By then its you i can do without, theres nothing new to talk about."... the kids shouldering all the blame is saying that they're the only people to blame for the relationship (they're referring themselves as kids).. but i see where you got the idea you got but i saw an interview of them explaining it

This video was made over 10 years ago. I used to make music videos like this when KZbin first became popular using Windows Movie Maker. I remember when you would upload the video to KZbin, sometimes the sound wouldn’t be in sync, even if it was previously. I also know sometimes KZbin fucks the sound up in older videos. I guarantee you it’s not the uploader’s fault.

@BeanTownReviews9 жыл бұрын
this is emo/alternative Patrick Hanford. most of brand news breakdowns are far too weak to be called pop punk.
@PatrickHanford9 жыл бұрын
Your Moms Poolboy I disagree, but to each their own. I'll always consider this song an icon for pop-punk, as it is pop-punk regardless of what characteristics may branch it to a sub-genre. Emo is not a real genre, it was acknowledged as a genre only because people wouldn't stop using it to describe music. I believe this is pop-punk, Brand New believes this is pop-punk, Mark Hoppus believes this is pop-punk. I'm going to stick to calling this pop-punk.

Honestly, who cares what the song is about? It may have been writen for a specific reason but musicand it's lyrics are normally left open enough for the listeners to interpret it the way that they see fit. That's what makes it beautiful and worth listening to. So hush about what it may or may not be about and just listen and enjoy the song. We all interpret things in different ways.

@MrCMEUP "If today's the day it gets tired, todays the day we drop out"... he's talking about leaving a relationship solely on the lack of butterflies, but comes back with "there's nothing new to talk about". not to mention he sings about leaving his home (splitting up) for an empty hotel... Oh and "..their parents let them shoulder all the blame." is hinting toward how kids beat themselves up over broken marriages, and divorces.... its all an extended metaphor for a relationship gone bad.

I interpret the song in my own way. I listen to songs because they mean something to me, and because I can connect with the lyrics. I never said that this song never had any meaning to me. Don't assume things, kay? What i was trying to say is that people should stop arguing about what the meaning behind the song is. You're supposed to connect it with your own feelings.

@ismokeot420420 Brand New is actually known for not making the meaning of the song easy to see.Your seeing the song by how they write the lyrics,but they go deep with them if u think "Jesus Christ" is about Jesus, then you're wrong. You can find interviews where the singer Jesse Lacey and guitarist Vincent Accardi will explain what their songs are really about. The song "Jesus Christ" is actually a song about him feeling that God left him because his girlfriend left him, he feels he has no one.
