I'll never forget the day when I was working cash at my old retail job. Must be a year or two ago, now. A man (late 20's-early 30's) came in and bought 2 CD's. The Cure and Taking Back Sunday (Tell All Your Friends). He was very polite and me being me, I said "Whoa, great choices, two of my favs!." So he asked me why I liked them and what their sound was. I explained happily. He replied that his wife had passed and these were some of her favourites. My heart stopped. I wanted to cry for him, for her. I wanted to give him a big hug and tell him that the right music can help heal. But I thought that might be weird, since I was just a random cashier and he was a random customer. I think about that encounter all the time. I don't know if it helped him or not. I'd like to think the music did. Taking Back Sunday has a skill of capturing emotions and things you always feel but can't put into words. I'm a hopeless romantic and I really feel pain for people who lose their loves. Taking Back Sunday, you will always be in my heart as a reminder of crazy high school days. But much more than that as well. You bring people together and some might need your music a little more than others, at different times. Just wanted to say thanks for creating the music you have. For your low days, your human after all, just want you guys to know, you guys make differences. :)

This particular song was mine and my first love's song. Like THE song that brought us together (we met on myspace because he had this song on his profile and I loved it) The love we had was your typical over-the-top 15-16 year old know-it-all type of love. But it was so fucking pure, and so fucking life changing that I carry it with me to this day. Him and I stayed good friends for 5 years after we broke up, and then the friendship kind of fell apart for two years with the occasional "how are you, I've been thinking about you lately, I hope you are well." Until the day he died. I always had felt a form of comfort knowing that no matter what happened, EVER, that I could talk to him and go to him and be received with loving arms even though we both led very different lives. That comfort blanket was ripped away so suddenly, and it still fucking hurts so bad that I can't even explain with words, and it's been almost a year since he died… and 8 years since we had that amazing connection. 8 years and I can listen to this song and hear his voice and his laugh on the other side of the phone and go back to the moment that I knew pure and unconditional love. The love that changed my life and formed who I am today. I'm in a happy relationship now, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but they always say you never forget your first love. And it's true. This song is pure nostalgia for me. I smile and cry every time I hear it.

Whenever I go to older music videos, especially with bands from this scene, 90% of the comments I see are about how people miss this era and that they wish music was still like this. Guess what? It is. There are so many smaller bands in the local scenes around the world that are writing music influenced by this kind of stuff. It's all still around, it just doesn't get mainstream attention because not enough people are actually going out to their local venues to see those bands. If people actually went out and supported their local scenes, and supported that bands who are still playing this sort of music, we would see the comeback that people are calling for.

Andrew said it, I'll say it again.... In a recent interview they asked Ben Gibbard (Postal Service/Death Cab) about whether he likes playing his old songs. He replied that he thought his new music was better (it is) but that he learned to understand that his older songs hit people at times in their life that were special to them. It wasn't simply the music, it was the people the listeners were when they heard the music at that time in their lives. Me? I don't want to hear this type of music. Everything to me sounds like a paper copy of this kind of stuff, which was a paper copy of new found glory, which was a copy of ..you get the idea. I liked new music in 1999-2002 and I like new music today....but these sounds aren't new. I love silversun pickups and Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah! because it reminds me of when I met my wife and we went to punk shows together 10 or so years ago. 20 years from now I'll appreciate Cloud Cult because it'll remind me of the time I listened to it..when my kids were young, when my wife was hot...etc. ps-don't tell my wife I said that.

Being a sophomore in high-school hanging out in my bedroom with my best friend of 2 years...met on the 1st day of hs and he stood up put this song on, grabbed my hands, and proceeded to tell me he dreamt about me every night. I was all he could think about and he couldnt go another day without telling me how he felt. He had no clue i was completely in love with him as well. We had our first kiss while the song played. Being now 35 its still one of the most sweetest things to ever happen to me. We were the perfect couple.... til i guess we werent. I still think of him damn near every day.... and i seriously cant believe im leaving it in a random comment section. 🤭🫣

Everyone thinks they had good music in highschool. Either music is just good every generation, period, or people fondly remember the one thing from those formative years that wasn't horribly and reliably confusing/embarassing/stupid. Music is generally a positive, even when it addresses the tough shit. Not sure if I feel optimistic or cynical today, so I can't vote for wide-minded appreciation of the arts, or for a mass delusion built of nostalgia. OTOH, even nostalgia needs a positive base experience to build from, so I lean to the optimism. ;) As my dad used to say, "the only thing that hasn't improved from the Good Old Days is human nature, which is only just as bad as it ever was." Over 40 here, btw, but modern DJs can create kickass mashups, which wasn't a thing in any highschool of my generation.

I always heard that line as "why can't I feel anything, from anyone for what they are?.... why can't I feel anything from anyone for who they are?" Thanks for the direct correction, but wow... my version was worse... obsession would be preferable to isolation... the world is filled with not that person's. But suffering not feeling anything from anyone due to actually knowing them is far more tragic

Served in the military, went to school overseas, and eventually settled down with my wife in another country. I'm 40 this year and my 9 year old son is hooked on TBS. We have been listening to Freds new Harmonies together. I suppose life comes full circle. People need to realize this music video was a Fight Club Parody. Movie came out in 1999 and this song came out in 2002. The meanings to the lyrics are never ending and can be an allegory for anything in life which is why this song never gets old and will never die. Similar to certain 80s hair band songs.

I can’t express how much this album meant to me when it came out. I was 15/16. And back then if you were into Metal or Hardcore - then it was a sin to like bands like this. And I remember I Bought Thrices first album. And Thursday’s first album. And right next to it in the “T” section was this album and it literally said “for fans of Thursday / thrice / (and 2 other bands I didn’t know). But I went ahead and bought it. And at first I was bummed at the lack of heaviness when I skipped around the CD. But I gave it another try on my way to school. And that first song had me absolutely hooked. And then this song came on and I knew I had just found one of my favorite albums of all time.
