Wonderful Show and Tell! Quilting is a wonderful way to stay positive in all the pandemic negativity. A tiny silver lining of all the lockdowns, is that as humans we have reached out to other humans. We have found/made a way to stay connected. Happy Quilting everyone and wishing everyone safety and joy.

Before the pandemic started; I had made a goal of making 50 quilts to commemorate my 50th trip around the sun. Nothing fancy; just something to give away. I had a ton of fabric I had collected from estate sales and my family. I had no idea that this “idea” would be such become so important to me as the pandemic raged. Quilting gave me a refuge from the isolation and loneliness. It gave me a purpose. It turned out that my little project ended up saving me. I’m still quilting this year; exploring my style. I have donated over 60 quilts to hospitalized babies and children. I received more from this project that anyone else. Keep up the great series.

I loved the initial episode from Jenni Smith. So glad people are getting away from the idea that everything has to be perfect when quilting. We should just enjoy. I was very impressed with Rick from Hawaii work. I do hand quilting so I know slightly what he feels when quilting. Thoroughly enjoyed the episode Virginia

Virginia, There is an old tradition in Hawaiian quilting. The quilter always put on deliberate "mistake" in each quilt-- an acknowledgement of our human imperfection. (Un)fortunately, I never have to be deliberate about it. My qullts always have an error or two or more! Love your comment.

I am very pleased to have found this series. So interesting to discover people with a similar interest even though I am new to quilting. I liked Sarah's style and really excited that she is only a few miles from my home in Rickmansworth. I am looking to find my own style but I will not now expect it to happen quickly! Thank you Jenni for sharing your expertise and experience etc.

Just fabulous. Love this series which I have only recently discovered. Ric's comment about it being meditative is so true. I too get twitchy if I haven't had a chance to do some sort of stitching in a day..quilting, embroidery, tapestry they are all important to me.

Such a wonderful Show and Tell and fantastic to feel connected with more quilters across the globe. I was really drawn to how certain fabrics connect us with memories and make us feel at home. I agree totally that quilting is an artwork that can be part of our everyday family life. Can't wait until the next one Jenni, such inspiring quilters.

I call myself an adventurous amateur quilter as I slowly develop my own style. This has given me encouragement to follow my heart and continue. I loved all the presentations but Rick's really touched me as he described stitching as a mediation, a prayer. It is that way for me. I am able to get into a zone where I am relaxed and in tune. Thank you so much! Keep these coming!

I felt a shiver down my spine when Ric said that too - we are so lucky to have a craft that brings so much pleasure into our lives.

Mahalo Suellen. We are all amateur quilters-- learning as we stitch. Hopefully, all adventurous (Donʻt we have to be to quilt?) And, yes, quilting can be a beautiful prayer meditation. Thank you for your comments. Ric d. Stark

Thank you for refilling my soul. I was feeling a little empty today. I think my takeaway is that I want to explore my vision and rely less on others’ visions for what my quilt looks like. I want to give up feeling like my quilts “should” be a certain way and allow them the evolve organically. Thank you for sharing your quilts and perspectives.

So Glad I found y'all!! I live to Quilt.....or any kind of hand work!! but Quilting satisfies my soul.....to hear you tell your journey is such a blessing....someone asked me what I do with all my quilts I make....why do you quilt them?.....I had to think....haha.....I said I give most of them away or do for a gift.....but I love the fabrics.....What could I say to a non-quilter here in SC!!! I offer lessons!! haha.....so far they don't see the need to sew and quilt......youtube encourages me!! and others for sure!! God Bless!!!

Thank you, Virginia. The credit for my mastering of Hawaiian quilting really belongs to my three teachers: First and foremost, Aunty Violet Hue from HIlo, who took me under wing, turned my heart inside out, and demanded my best. Second, Deidra McElroy, who taught me "that perfect stitch" and Tahitian applique. Third, Luika Kamaka, who told me that I really could draw my own patterns-- and kept telling me so, until it happened. Today, all of my quilts honor the life and tradition of our beloved Queen Liliuokalani. Mahalo.

Thank you for this show and tell. I loved hearing the back stories about the quilts being displayed. And I appreciated Ric saying that when he is done raising his "children" it is time for them to go! I know people have different attitudes about their quilts, but for me, I love to give away my quilts! It is probably more about "sharing the joy," though.
