These were very undervalued for years and know they are shooting up in value. Beautiful early car .. One of the very first as it doesn’t even have an airbag, which was standard in the USA even on late model r107s.

I have had mine for 12 years, it is a 1995. I needed a new throttlebody which was a grand. Since then I have replaced suspension all round, always had it serviced on time recently new brakes all round and discs. Roof has always worked. Fantastic car drives like new fast comfortable and stylish. Prefer driving this in some ways to my C 63S estate because it’s more simple to drive. The M119 engine is a masterpiece , A guy in America had one who had done half 1,000,000 miles. They took out the 4 camshafts, measured them on a micrometre and there was no visible wear.

I paid £7k 5 years ago for a 1999 320 one owner car in silver with light grey leather - it was immaculate but the rear windscreen and the cover it was stored in had been removed with the first aid kit and the warning triangle. The widower of the previous owner said he had thrown them all away! That means sold them on eBay!! Still too good to pass up on! The roof went immediately and needed a new ECU - got a lifetime warranty from refurbisher - none of this is available from Mercedes along with the ignition keys or any of the stuff robbed from the boot!. The plastic covers that cover up the vanity mirror connections always crack if you over tighten them, the small dash storage box has a plastic catch that always breaks and the lid never opens on the button if you have the unit screwed in too tightly. The engine has an oil leak at the rear of the rocker cover gasket and the timing chain cover leaks on the front, but it is mist not liquid and there's nothing you can do because the engine casing is cast too thin to allow the seals to work - you have to accept it as a cost of ownership! The boot seals leak and you have to make sure that the drain plug in the bottom of the boot is clear because it will fill up and flood the roof hydraulic pump that is mounted under the spare wheel - great design! The front wings all rust on the bottom leading edge and its easy to break the cover on the boot mounted fuse box! All that aside it is the best car I have ever owned and I will be buried in it! Good luck with yours if you buy one. They are increasing in value I have been offered £15k twice recently!

I checked out a SL500 last week. I was told there was only 3 things broken on it. So I did my due diligence and checked out everything. The guy got angry at me and said I was being picky and that he already told me what was broken. Twice we had to start the car, once to check the electrics then again later to take it for a test drive. Both times it didn’t start so we had to get it jump started. At the beginning he said it was a new battery, by the second time it didn’t start, he changed his tune and said it just needs a new battery. So why should I trust anything else he says? Also he didn’t want me to drive it and instead gave the keys to my male roommate, who was only there to stop this exact thing happening but instead he didn’t say a word so I had to stick up for myself. I went to the drivers side told him I was driving and instead he had the nerve to ask me if I even had my drivers license, even though I was the one there to buy the car and he didn’t ask that when he gave the keys to my roommate. So if there are any women that are interested in buying a car like this, I suggest you get a Mercedes expert to go with you and do the checks as well. That way you have two people knowing what they are looking for, so you can make a fair offer as well as know cost of repairs etc. And hopefully you can avoid the horrible experience that I had. Because there was a lot more going on than I’ve shared.

Yeah it’s amazing isn’t it. Incredibly expensive cars when new but some interior components: roof liner, plastics, leathers, don’t wear so well (although probably still better than Jags to be fair). Fortunately mine has the glass panoramic roof so no worry of the roof liner detaching. I love my SL.
