Train operator from the A train here I've operated it about nearly a month ago and they're not bad the brakes are pretty responsive and it constantly also reminds me of operating the R142 cars in my A Division days. It's very smooth riding it to work. Eventually the glitches and the kinks will be smoothed out on the R211s

I love the overall ride and design of the train itself, including the small windows which gives me an R32/R38 vibe on a New Tech train

​@@MysticTransit I would love to see these new trains run along the Second Avenue Subway in the future. I would also to see the R211 used for more services on the E to help ease Overcrowding on the Queens Blvd line. Please reply with your thoughts on my comment.

transverse seating is very nice when you get a seat, but it takes more space. better to have longitudinal seating and more capacity.

I feel that’s the improvement could be for future subway cars is to build trains like the R143 with the 1 big door It gives you smee vibes while at the same time is a New train this is why I really love the R143 and felt that all subway cars after should of followed the same design

Some R211 trains have been having a few technical issues and teething problems, but that often happens when new trains enter service. The same thing happened with London's Elizabeth line as well as in Australia when Brisbane's new NGR Trains entered service a few years ago. Eventually, the problems will just sought themselves out.

The production cars as well as R211T's 4040-4044 & 4050-4054 have the full digital advertisement screens and MTA has told me they will enable those useful features soon. I think we would see it after the 30-day revenue test. I do enjoy how smooth and quiet the ride is and the lighting on those cars are top tier. I just wish they added the full blue & gold stripes to all the cars instead of just the cab cars

I don’t like Kathleen’s announcements. They’re kind of stern and she talks very fast. Catherine is better because she has a more soothing voice.

I've been on the R211 on the A line. I boarded at Jay st Metrotech, was very interesting because I saw it for the first time irl and got to ride on it for the first time. It was super cramped, my jacket got caught in the doors but managed to pull it out.

I like the fact that they brought back the colored bullet. I hated that red digital letter and number on the IRT trains. I can't wait till the 5 train comes into service.

I'm lowkey hoping they retrofit all the other cars. At least the red works for the 1, 2, and 3 lines. They should especially add colored front signs on all the new trains on the lettered lines. Given how there's a lot more mixing/interlining on the lettered lines, I think this will help.

Compared to the new trains of the Moscow metro, this is certainly a past century. There are wide doors, good seats, each of which has a USB port for charging your phone, interactive screens with a metro map with the ability to select a language and select the best route, no doors between cars - you can freely pass from one car to another, and in general the design much more modern.

NYC doesn’t need USB ports on the subway as much as they need capacity. On longer distance trains that go into the suburbs, they have better seats and USB charging. That’s not very useful on a train most people ride for 15 minutes at a time. (It would only make sense if they had different trains for express and local service, assuming you are taking a longer trip on express trains. But then that makes things more complicated to operate. They also have open car versions of these trains too. They are testing them out as well to see what people prefer. New Yorkers are worried if someone gets sick in one car, or will make all the connected cars smell until they can wash out the car at the end of the line.

I rode this set on Saturdays and Sundays so whenever I spot this train, I know it's doing well. Now I just wait till next Saturday and Sunday to catch it and ride it, hopefully it can get through the remaining week and clear the trial by April 9 or the 10. But even if the train does clear the trial, delivery and testing is going to take time before these cars are to be put in revenue service, can't afford to make any mistakes like the problems with the r179. My suggestion is to focus and complete the entire order of the r211 base and two options, test them and the features and get to be comfortable in revenue service. Then deal with the retirement of the r46.

I heard that the R-211 failed the 30 day revenue service because the emergency brakes were activated. I think they said it had something to do with the signals or something like that

There is definitely a lot of room for improvement as I have some criticisms of the R211. First of all, There are no charging ports as originally planned, nor WIFI. However I do like The clear announcements and the very good displays that the R160 A (Alstom and B (Kawasaki) lacked. I am a rail-fan but also a critic, as the city need to do more to prioritize passenger convenience, what I really hope for is that the articulated/open gangway cars coming to service relatively soon.

I wonder if the announcement issues are an operator issue? Like even on the older trains, it's always hit or miss depending on the conductor. Also, I am really bummed about the route screens not showing station information, like where the exits are. That was one of my most anticipated features. I'm hoping they can improve it over time since those would just be software updates essentially. The hardware all seems there, it's just a matter of incremental updating. I am also a bit bummed about the smaller windows but I think it's a fair tradeoff for wider doors, which I personally feel are more important.

YO Mystic, I rode this R211 (R411, whatever) train the first weekend the carriages came out back in the late winter / Spring '23. I rode from Inwood down to Fulton St. Re the doors & the larger windows of those London Underground carriages. This is so cuz they slide externally on a railed track, allowing for wider doors and larger windows - toché, a given!. Here the problem is, long-term, is that ingress & egress of passengers onto the platform in a station vs affecting trains in the station being held up X number of mintutes later, is not even statistically signifant. Net-net: doors are too big , resulting in one or two lost seats per side of a carriage being 'taken out'. People want to sit down during their journey not be able to get on and/or get off the carriage faster. Peeps do NOT care!!. Bad design move!

The R211s should've used door windows based off the R142s instead of R160s/143s. Though with how these cars taper inwards towards the ceiling, my mind's starting to change about the use of outside-sliding doors. I can only think of the Delhi Metro as the closest example to what it would look like here. What are your thoughts about reduced seating for the A line - compared to R179s and R160s?

Forget plug doors in urban environments. They are slow and prone to failures. We have them all over here in Germany and the yellow "door out of order" stickers are a well known thing. It will have its reasons why France is returning to outside sliding doors despite their... visual drawbacks.

Y'know I always found it strange that the MTA can afford these shiny new trainsets seemingly all the time but its stations are in a horrid state of repair, and it is nearly always complaining of bankruptcy, and even when it does build lines, it goes 4x over budget to build 3 stations and take 12 years. I don't know if you made a video about this but if possible, could you make a video addressing this type of problem that the MTA has and how it doesn't seem to happen in other major cities around the world? Or if you could point me in the right direction so I can get more info, I'd appreciate it

I haven't ridden the R211 yet, but I plan to the next time I visit the city, and when more train sets enter service. I believe the first option order will be for the A/C and B/D lines while the second will be for the G, N/W, and R. The B/D I believe will receive R160B's (Siemens sets only tho) from the G and R, both of those lines getting R211's in return, and the R68/A's on the B/D being sent over to the N/W and Q. The N/W will likely receive R211's, displacing their current R68/A's to the Q to replace the R46's on that line. The Q will NOT receive any NTT's in return, and will be the only line on Broadway to run primarily with SMEE's. I'm told that the train crews have a hard time switching the roll-signs on the R68/A's at Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard. If that's the case, then most of the R68/A's will have to be moved to the Q, and only a handful of R68/A's will remain on the N/W for the time being. The E/F, J/Z, L, and M will continue running with the current rolling stock they have, with no changes whatsoever. The E/F will continue running with both R160A-2's and R160B's. The J/Z will continue running with R160A-1's and R179's, with the occasional R143's during rush hours. The L will continue running with R143's and R160A-1's. The M will run with R160A-1's only, and I don't see it operating with any other rolling stock whatsoever, but I do think it could run with R143's during late nights while the R160A-1's at Jamaica Yard get some maintenance timing. So in conclusion: A/C: R179's and R211's. B/D: R160B's and R211's. E/F: R160A-2's and R160B's. G: R160A-2's and R211's. J/Z: R160A-1's and R179's (R143's during rush hours). L: R143's and R160A-1's. M: R160A-1's only (R143's during late nights). N/W: R68/A's and R211's. Q: R68/A's only. R: Same as the G. Franklin Avenue Shuttle: R68's only. Rockaway Park Shuttle: R179's only.

Why would the Q not get any NTT's? That doesn't make sense, especially since those have some of the newer/more up to date stations/tracks in the system? Not to mention the ridership is very high. (I'm a habitual Q rider, so I'd be bitter if we don't get any modern trains lol). I'm so sick of riding these old, decrepit, ancient R46s and even the R68's. They all really need to go. The entire system needs to be modernized with modern trains from top to bottom, yes even the Franklin Avenue Shuttle and Times Square Shuttle.

Sorry, Why would the G get 211s with wider doors? The wide doors are for high-volume lines so the E/F at some point will get them. It's just a matter of time.

@@clbtransit4798 It's all about dwell time for the MTA. If the 211s spend less time in the stations, then the MTA likes them on high-volume lines. The signaling is already there for 8th Av. as well and QBL. It's really hard to say what the MTA will do in terms of car assignments so I go with what they've previously done. As with anything else, we'll see. For now, A and C are where the R211s run.

The new subway cars for the MARTA system in Atlanta look beautiful and with open gangways. They have NO problem introducing that feature. So any excuses the MTA has been customarily giving for not allowing open gangways is grade "A" bulls#@&. As long as the same crypt keepers remain at the helm of MTA, that system will never catch up to the rest of the world.

So much for open gangways 😂, also I don’t think mta could never adapt how they have the euro setups with the doors because I’m pretty sure there will still be a time that they’ll pull out an older model for whatever reason to run on the line, just like they did with the NQR lines a while back

It is revenue testing, which means its being tested and u could ride it as if it were a normal train. If it passes the test, it will keep running but if it fails, it will probably be taken out of service

Personally, I do not like the R211’s, and a lot of the reasons are personal, but I do have some things to say about it that aren’t just because I don’t like it from my own design-preferred standpoint. First thing, there were a lot of things that they could’ve done in order to make these cars look visibly different down to the smaller details from what Kawasaki previously gave us, because there’s a lot of features and design choices on the R211 that are derived directly from the R143 and R160’s, like the way the windows are sized (downscaled from the R160 albeit) and other texture and construction based details. Whether this has to be with Kawasaki’s technique putting them on a constant theme of making subways like this for us, I couldn’t tell you, but it seems like they really wanted to use the R160 as a heavy base, and it shows to me. A lot of things about the R211 in relation to its quality are also very sub par and quite honestly disappointing, one of them being the announcements even after they “fixed” them. Yes they are more clear, but they still don’t compare to let’s say the R179’s speaker quality, and it seems like Kawasaki has a track record of making somewhat sub par speakers, but for me these take the cake due to sounding obstructed in a way, not even just low quality. Another thing would have to be the brightness of the overhead on the interior, and the way the overhead itself is positioned and sized. The bottom of it looks like it’s cut off, because from the angle that you see it, it’s not positioned at the top so everybody can see the text perfectly. The coloring is also an issue, just because the white seems more violet, and the bullets are very saturated and bright, something more so good for the exterior. I have a lot of other things to say about it but these relate with the video and what you’ve said here. I honestly am not excited for this fleet at all, but everybody is subjected to their opinion.

I really doubt the aesthetics are a choice by Kawasaki. See for instance Tokyo Metro 16000 trains, Sapporo Metro 8000 trains. So it's a MTA issue.

If the test goes well with out no problems more R211As/TS will be testing for mounts and mounts . Another thing the R211As is definitely going to Staten island Rail ways I'm just letting you know that right now.

Guys, if you're into this, just look at the trains in the Moscow subway. With ventilation, Wi-Fi, chargers, monitors, etc...

Haven’t rode it yet, but have seen it in passing one time on a Wednesday morning around 10:30ish by Rockaway Blvd. Is that when they are mostly looking to run those R2111s as opposed to closer to rush hour?

Okay so from how I do it, at around 4:15-4:45 the trains goes at hoyt going to ozone park. I stayed at the at station for about 4 times this week & it always comes around that time.

I have taken the R211 on April Fool’s Day and found nothing wrong with them at all, so your suggestions are very irrelevant. The MTA NEEDs money from ads and service advisories are not inserted on the train. That’s what the billboards on stations are for. They are very useful so that when I get on the train, I’m good. The electronic ads were first tested on the R160B2s when they were on the (N) and all New Tech trains have received them, with the exception of the R143s, which have their own distinctive electronic ads. The R211s are similar to the other fleets with dual swing doors. The green and red lights are an A+. They ride very fast. That’s what I love.

I never understood this about the mta, if moving between train cars is "illegal" than what's the point of still having the r211a's and not r211t's?

A lot of rail fans are wacko- when I was a conductor one came up to me and said “ohh uhhh u are a conductor uhh wow uhh nice medals ummm hi uhhh- I was like “ dude I’m due back in planet earth for a tour of duty- umm ohh errr ok? Umm uhhh take care now ..

this train loses its magic when the guy up front throws a poop & throw up shirt on the ground and starts yelling at himself. Go when its not packed or you will suffer. If you cant swap carts you're SOL.

That’s still not going to change with new subway cars as the subway is public owned property , although police acting on them causing a disturbance or blocking people from sitting down will be appreciated , but they can’t really kick them out for no reason
