I love your videos. In 2020 this particular station was upgraded. The island platform surface was demolished and re-poured. The tactile and the rubbing board were replaced. A new cleaners booth was put in the middle of the platform. All of this was covered under contract A-37202 for the 4 station component rehab project.

Quick note about the proposed 3 connection: The issue with that connection to the Jerome Avenue line seems to be more related to the fact that the 162 street tunnel between the former Sedgwick and Jerome-Anderson Avenue station were built to elevated standards, which would’ve meant a very, very costly enlargement of the tunnels. Considering that 162nd street here is very narrow , this would’ve encroached the foundation of all the buildings on the street. Construction photos of the connection show how narrow the tunnels are. Shame cause it would’ve been very useful.

Had that being built what would have happened was this 3 trains running to the Bronx and 4 train having a diversion route Brooklyn by running on the Westside IRT like the 5 train running on the 2 train route from 149th Street Nevins Avenue via the Westside IRT. If IRT Westside line was blocked 3 trains will run Nevins St 167th Street Jerome Avenue using 4 train service pattern while 2 train follows the 5 train Nevins Street to 149th Street Grand Concourse if the elevated connection was built

@@principeperfecto6319 They have the technology to rebuild the 9th Avenue Elevated line to extend the 3 trains to connect with the 4 line at 167 and Burnside Avenue Bronx because at Burnside Avenue has two switches and 167 street has the same exact two switches. it might go around the new Yankee stadium 🏟️. The 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line is definitely needed between Gun hill road Clearmount Avenue Webster Ave Bronx and 125 street connecting to the 4 5 6 Q T and the Metro North railroad. Or the 10 and the 8 trains could run to Queens plaza connecting to the Flushing 7 line N W trains 🚃.

My grandmother has an apartment in Esplanade. The bus terminal is across the street also. Funny part is to get to her place, we had to go crosstown from Eastchester and there's no single bus route so we always drove and today, finding parking is a dice roll. Taking the train meant taking 3 trains - 5 to the 2 then uptown to the 3😮‍💨. Crosstown train from co-op city area would have been super convenient

Great information. I have never been to this station or any 3 station above 125 ST so I will have to check it out. The only thing that annoys me is when a newer station only has one entrance/exit to the station That can be annoying like 21ST/ Queensbridge and so it take longer to get in/out of the station and to where you need to go

The #3 line is either useless or beneficial depending on if you use it. I use to use it when I worked at 135th Street. I specifically liked it because I could get on an empty train, practically. But if you needed to go to the Bronx or further upper Manhattan, it is totally, totally useless. You have to force your way on a very crowded 2 train. The 5 train at least has the #4 for points north.

That's my favorite station. In my younger years I used to go to PS 200 also known as James McCune Smith Elementary School and the whole complex was it was connected. And before Frederick Douglas it was called I.S10 High School. 145th Street is the shortest station. Because you have to walk 5 train cars to get off the station. I HAD TO GO UP THERE FROM TIME TO TIME TO GO WITH A TRAIN I HAD TO TAKE OUT OF SERVICE (HAPPENED ALMOST EVERY DAY) OR SPEAK TO THE CREWS ABOUT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED. THERE WAS AN OLD VACUUM TRAIN THAT STAYED IN THE YARD. I USED TO WORK THE VACUUM TRAIN AT 207TH STREET YARD ON OVERTIME. IT WAS A 5 CAR CONSIST BUT ONLY THE FIRST AND FIFTH CARS HAD MOTORS AND THEY WERE NOT CONNECTED. IT HAD TWO MOTORMAN, ONE ON EACH END PLUS THE CREW WHO HANDLED VACUUMING THE TRACKS. @@MysticTransit oh it definitely comes in handy. I’m seeing some comments in here saying that these stations are useless but nothing could be further from the truth. That area between 145th & 148th on the 3 has grown a lot thanks to the gentrification in Harlem and once that elevator is built for 148th St, it’s gonna be an even bigger asset to the community. I’m glad these stations are around for Harlem.

I fully agree! I can’t stand some of the ideas people have to remove service from these stations. It’s basically taking our rail service away. It is great to have an IRT Line on this side of Harlem, and it provides an extremely quick way to get to Lower Manhattan. The station definitely sees good ridership, so I don’t understand why people think it is useless. Tbh, I think this sees more use than 145 St 🤣.

@@MysticTransit i haven’t used those stations in a while but I don’t dispute that 148th had more ridership than 145th. Sometimes i walked to 148th even though 145th was closer. And the thinking of not viewing those stations as important is the thinking that caused so much of the subway to be torn apart, like all the El’s we lost all over the city. We need to value these stations and these lines because they can be gone in an instant.

I have an idea. How about extending the 3 train by building an underground tunnel below the 2 train tunnel and build its own station under 149 st-grand concourse. Next, build a tunnel under grand concourse and connect the tracks towards the 4 train to Woodlawn. I don’t think expanding the 3 from 148 st to the 4 line is a wise idea. Yankee stadium and buildings are in the way. There goes the idea to build it elevated.

Something similar to the future extended "Q" Lexington Avenue proposed terminal. But at least the #3 line has a case for this strange arraignment. By the way, this is only a layup yard. Here’s a idea The Morris Park station is a station on the IRT Dyre Avenue Line of the New York City Subway served by the 5 train at all times. It is located at Paulding Avenue and the Esplanade in Morris Park, Bronx. The station was first placed in service in 1912 as part of the New York, Westchester and Boston Railroad, a subsidiary of the New York, New Haven and Hartford. The line was designed for the weight of the heaviest mainline steam trains. The NYW&B offered frequent service between 138th Street in the South Bronx and White Plains and Port Chester in Westchester County. The White Plains and Port Chester branches diverged at Mount Vernon Junction near Columbus Avenue along the boundary between Mount Vernon and Pelham. The two outer tracks at Morris Park were for trains that made local stops in the Bronx, and went to Port Chester. The two inner tracks were for express trains that made limited stops in the Bronx, and went to White Plains. The trains were powered by 11,000 Volt 25 Hz alternating current supplied from an overhead catenary. The cut-off stumps of the catenary bridges remain along the right of way and can be seen from the south ends of the platforms. The NYW&B was doomed by the bankruptcy of its patron, the New Haven. Service ended in 1937.[6] few years later, the portion in the Bronx became part of the New York City Transit System. Initial subway service was a shuttle (nicknamed "The Dinky") to the old NYW&B platforms at East 180th Street. In the late 1950s, the construction of a flying junction with the White Plains Road line allowed Dyre Avenue trains to enter the East 180th Street subway station and continue to Manhattan. Around this period, the Morris Park platforms were extended towards the south to accommodate ten-car subway trains. This required reducing the height of the outboard plate girders of the bridge over Colden Avenue so that the bottoms of the platforms would be above the tops of the girders. The massive overdesign of the bridge allowed ample margin for trimming the girders. On November 24, 1979, an R22 car, #7602, was involved in a rear-ending accident here. The Bronx-bound platform was closed for renovation from February 17, 1992 to August 31, 1992, earlier than its expected reopening in late fall 1992. The rest is for you to find out

I find it kinda ridiculous that they couldn’t solve the issue with tunnels between Sedgwick and Jerome Ave or the issue with the trains being too heavy for the 9th Elevated line, they could’ve just rebuilt it if they had the money to handle the weight for the trains, but this extension will probably never happen because of the Yankee Stadium blocking the former connection to the 9th Ave line or the could be build around but that’s a lot of curves so probably not

A Bronx community did a story about extended the 3 line in the West Bronx. It would run along University Avenue. But if you look at the terrain in the area, it would be very, very expensive to build. Just think of the #1 line as it goes elevated at 122nd and descends back to subway on steroids. There are just areas where this subway would reach 8 stories, just so it wouldn't have to climb steeply. So although some efforts could be made to minimize the height by digging deeper underground, it still wouldn't be worth it. That's why these lines are built in the valleys, even though most of the population live in the hilly enclaves. Its just too expensive! Another case for an extended #3 line (which my proposal comment was deleted from the West Bronx Newspaper website) was to have it as a Crosstown service. So it would be a better version of the D line that was proposed to Gun Hill Road. But let me end this right here, because that is not what this vlog is about.

Hey your by my house lol. The station that doesn't make sense since 145 is right around the corner lol literally. This line has potential for future extensions. But again mta is "poor" at the moment. But if we had a ski resort that needs money. Oooh mta can pay

The station actually get's used a considerable amount. It's there to avoid riders having to walk to the 145 St Station, which is much further than "around the corner". When I used to live in Harlem, this station used to come in handy so much, and used to save me so much time from having to walk to 145 St, which was more than a 5 minute walk.

How is the area? Is it safe for a growing family? I’m looking to move locations. The area where I live in Queens is a great, safe neighborhood, but I have to wait for the bus to take me to the train and sometimes you can wait an upwards of 30-45 minutes for a bus to arrive. If I lived here, I could cut out the bus and just go on the train directly.

They could have called it 149th Street Lenox terminal. How would that confuse with the other 149th Street stations when they have three 145th Street stations across Manhattan. IF THE ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE CLEARLY MADE NOBODY WOULD GET CONFUSED. I still think the station should be renamed 149th Street - Lenox Terminal
@TheRailLeaguer
@TheRailLeaguer 2 жыл бұрын
This is because the two stations are in different boroughs. A 149th-Lenox would’ve been confused with 149th-Concourse in the Bronx not that far away, similar to how West 4th Street in Manhattan would’ve been confused with a South 4th Street on the planned line to Brooklyn. Besides, it’s no big deal.

@@TheRailLeaguer I know why, but for the record, there's 7 Ave station in Brooklyn & Manhattan, same with 50 Street. Transit makes the illusion of confusion but it's not. Just clearly make the announcements and no one's confused. I don't think passengers would have gotten South 4th Street confused with West 4th Street if that had happened. There in two separate areas and riding the system daily for a period of time customers would know the difference. When announcements are made clearly people will get it... "THIS IS THE 3 TRAIN TO LENOX TERMINAL- 149 STREET, MANHATTAN. NEXT STOP 145TH STREET." "THIS IS NUMBER 2 TRAIN TO 241ST STREET NEXT STOP 149TH STREET GRAND CONCOURSE BRONX. WATCH THE CLOSING DOORS."

@@ronaldharvinjr636 That’s not really how it works, given that those stops were built by different companies and a whole bunch of other issues. Plus the 148th Street name is fine. It’s no big concern. Why are you making such a big deal over a station name when there are more pressing issues to worry about?
@ronaldharvinjr636
@ronaldharvinjr636 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRailLeaguer Well in my opinion (as this is about) station's names should be where the street entrance is that. They change the name of Pacific Street station in Brooklyn to Atlantic Avenue- Barclays Center and those two stations were built by different companies at the time. The a and c station used to be Broadway/Nassau and now its Fulton Street, another station that was built by a different company from the previous ones above it. It goes to show it can be done, because all the stations are now unified by one company.

They should convert this branch into a shuttle and extend the 3 into the Bronx, and reroute the 5 up Jerome. More trains for everybody.
@MysticTransit
@MysticTransit 2 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with those plans. You're eliminating great one seat rides from the (5) on WPR, and the (3) going into Northern Harlem.
@alum6390
@alum6390 2 жыл бұрын
@@MysticTransit Yet it would benefit the Bronx as a whole to have more trains servicing both the WPR and Jerome lines. I also think the # of people who benefit from this one seat ride is much less than the # of people who would benefit from this revised subway plan.
@MysticTransit

I doubt it. More people benefit from the one seat ride, as ridership is distributed between the two highest ridership trunks, Seventh, and Lexington.

@@MysticTransit why not extend 145th St station north to fully accompany 10 cars trains. If so, people can just walk an extra block through the old station platforms at 148th St (use the old platforms as a guideway and then goes underground) to connect to 145th St. Make 145th St ADA as well as the guideway!
