Chase, great review as always. I don't know if it's your lighting, camera, or the unit itself but Crash Racing looks so much better on this handheld than on either of my Anbernic handhelds, and its probably my most played game. Might have to try this one. And hey, how about we graduate from the 3.5" screen to a 5" screen on these platforms? Still portable enough for a flight, drive, or restaurant wait but much more satisfying for my old eyes. Or maybe I'm just not aware of that option out there. We seem to be stuck on this screen size for about five years now.

There is a R36Max with a bigger screen 720x720. After watching many reviews however, it seems to distort the image because that is not the original size so it stretches it a bit. If you don’t mind. You can also adjust the ratio to fit the original size.. but it will have the black bars on top and bottom. I went back and forth for a whole day trying to decide. I finally pulled the trigger on the R40s pro and can’t wait to get my hands on it.

I have a 36s and it's a great product for the price, I just wanted this one to bring something new, by the name I thought it would be an 4" screen.. I was wrong, but it could at least bring us an TV put. Great vídeo anyway! ✌🏻🤓

It's like $20 more, but the Anbernic RG 40XX V and 40XX H are essentially what you're describing, and less likely to be a knockoff clone. In addition to HDMI out, they also include built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Also available as 4" square screen are the Anbernic RG Cube XX and Powkiddy RGB30 and RGB20SX. Those display 4:3 content at 3.5 but GB/GBC and other square systems look great on the 4" screen.

@@robertwolfgan I neglected to mention that the 4" square systems also have HDMI, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I bought an RG CubeXX. It has great ergonomics and that screen helped me appreciate GB/GBC in a way I never did. 😁

@KatDoomsong Even more reason to get it. I remember reading about RG Cube being a bit expensive though, but that it was the best handheld for DS and 3DS games too due to screen size haha.

@@robertwolfgan I think it's about $60 direct from Anbernic plus shipping, which is about what Chase paid for this R40S. I've not tried DS on it, due to lack of touch screen, but it could work for games that don't need touch. I don't think the processor will handle 3DS very well. Russ on the Retro Game Corp channel has a good review of it... actually of all the devices I mentioned. Very in-depth. Cheers.

This is just an R36S going by another name, whilst watching the video I was comparing to my R36S…absolutely identical. It plays everything included really well except for PSP and 50% of N64. PS1 is perfect!! Running Emulation Station means it’s highly, and easily, customisable regarding ROM collections. It’s a learning curve but a month on from my purchase I now have a much better and cleaner experience than out of the box. £30 sterling on Ali Express!!!

@Chase Brogan I have this one and I have ran into quite a few that have error messages, stating files are missing. Avengers in Galactic Storm (arcade), Batman (arcade), Battletoads (arcade), Spider-Man: The Video Game (arcade), as well as some others that are not arcade roms.

Man, you could do it by hand, but what would be nice is if you could run a script to remove those leading numbers from the file names. It would make those game lists much more usable if you didn't have your own rom collection. If you do happen to have a wi-fi adapter, there is a built-in screen scraper function for Ark OS, but it only works if you fix the file names. Also, would probably want to delete few things to make sure the scraping doesn't exceed the SD card capacity. Also, I believe in Ark OS you can use either the shoulders or triggers to page down through lists faster, and I think one of the buttons lets you jump to a starting letter.

I was late I see, but for what I see in this video, I just don't understand why they name it "Pro" when it lags many of the things it has xD it doesn't make much sense. What does the non-Pro version runs then, Tetris and snake games only?

lol, the "Pro" is only there to drag in gullible people that think Pro means better. Aside from a slight shape change to the bottom of the device it is literally the same internally and performance-wise as the R36S.

Those are not sub collections. I hate when. People buy these things and don't pay attention to the menu. They are up top because they are in the FAVORITES category. So no matter where you scroll. Whatever is at the top means those are in your "favorites"lineup.

He showed the Favorites there were only 16 games in it. Those yellow names are indeed sub-collections or folders. If you click them, (like the Top 100 in the Super Famicom collection) there are multiple games inside. In a game collection in Ark OS the sub-folders are always put at the top. Those have not been marked as favorites, they're just folders with more games.

same as the R36s but worse and more than double the price. Clone of a clone designed to con the consumer. Something that annoys me about these is that the face buttons are joined together so when you press one, the others move which looks really cheap. By the way, you can scroll down a page at a time by pressing the right shoulder buttons

This is identical to the R36S which I have, it’s actually a really great (if a tad small), console. I’m currently curating my own rom collection and getting rid of duplicates and trash. Mine was £30 sterling of Ali Express. Can’t go wrong at that price!
