Young Brother, I can totally relate: Among many other hardships, my home state of Florida was hit the earliest, hit the hardest, and negatively impacted the longest by that horrible recession of 2008. I had taken in my disabled elderly mother, my girlfriend, and her 8 yr old daughter, all counting on me to save our home, keep the power on & food on the table. I was forced to sell off everything for pennies on the dollar ( the rich get richer as the poor get poorer ) in order to save our house. This included all 4 of my prized acoustic guitars. Brother, that hurt worse than losing all of my other valuable possessions combined. But I have just recently purchased 2 very fine acoustic guitars and will be purchasing yet another. I like to perform many songs in open/alternate tunings as well as standard tuning, so owning 3 guitars makes it much easier during performances. ..........EVER ONWARD. Grace and Peace to you Brother.

Unbelievable what Jimmy achieved before he turned 35. Unfortunately he never continued playing really. The death of Zep was the death of him in some ways too. I really wish he would go back on stage and play his legendary songs one last time. He’s 80 now 😢 Great playing man.

BRAVO!!! As a 62 yr old lifelong guitarist ( since 12 yrs old ) and gigging professionally all over east/central Florida for many years ( electric & acoustic guitar/lead and/or backing vocals, blues harp ), I have performed this song both playing and singing it at the same time. I am a perfectionist, and you my friend, incorporate a very unique take on this classic masterpiece, yet still staying very close to the original version. As requested, here I am; and I could never have imagined missing this cover of The Rain Song, either. You have *such* amazing, technical command while simultaneously emanating the emotions of the different verses. Just ... WOW! Brilliant, man ... your flourishes: the harmonics, the high-end riffs, etc., are all gorgeous and do nothing to take away from the original melody. In fact, you are able, as is really rare with this song, to add some of the background little base- and mid-range riffs that would usually take an overdub or another instrument to cover. If you might permit me one liberty, please, in my opinion? At the very end, the final release, where the chord dissolves into that single highest note: that note notoriously *slides* ... it rings ... all the way down the fingerboard to the lower frets, where it's drawn into the ending riff. That's the absolute single and *only* thing I could ever imagine even mentioning. And this is really ironic: my husband is a sound engineer and composer ... sometimes he'll change something that I've gotten so used to hearing in his previous versions that I kvetch until I get him to sneak it back in. Ugh; I can be a real pain. You are an absolute delight to listen to .. and yes: Jimmy Page, I think, would also wear that same "wow", Jimmy Page grin upon hearing your *playing*. Gorgeous, and breathtaking. Thank you! I'll be elated the day I can nail this half as good as you've done, here .... {{sigh}}. ;)
@NotoriousFunk4 жыл бұрын
Thank you a lot for your words! I really appreciate your review.. about the end i am not sure to understand what it rings... A wife of a sound engineer it's another (if not a better) sound engineer, LOL, thanks for your words!

@@NotoriousFunk Thank you so much for the compliment; something about my ears! I meant every single word of praise and admiration. To present a version of an already epic masterpiece, with your ability to expertly embellish it *just* enough to further enlighten - without spoiling it - that's a successful walk on a wire over the Grand Canyon. Truly. You've done brilliantly, and yes; it's obvious that you really dig your gift.

@@NotoriousFunk Ohhh man!!! Romario is a genius, in my top 3 brazilian players. If I’m not wrong you’re Italian (if you’re not, sorry lol). I grew up loving and watching Italian stars like Baggio, Totti, Maldini and Baresi (best defenders ever), Piero, Pirlo… Such a great generation! Some of the parts are almost impossible for my skills, but anxiously waiting the last lessons. Again, you’re amazing!!
@NotoriousFunk2 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielquintino4670 As far as I know I am Italian, Spanish and French but in the end we are all brothers and sisters. Italy football sucks right now, no more Baggio or Pirlo for the moment.. Romario was a genius, European do not know him a lot but he was on the same league of Maradona, a pure genius, I am not a genius but I share with him the same day of birth, at least it is something AH! Personally i never liked our defensive playing. Bebeto, Romario, Ronaldo (R9), Rivaldo, Cafù, Ronaldinho, Kaka so much quality and what a joy to watch playing Brazil so I hope Brazil will win his 6 cup. About the music, take it easy, it’s like a puzzle, one piece at time but definitely the rain song it's not mission impossible, I mean it's not Bach Chaconne. So, just study the lessons and relax, with a little of time you will play it better than me. The key is to be relaxed while playing the bar chords so if you haven’t check my barrè lesson, it will help you to play those long sections of Barrè without having any pain and plus you will get even a more clean sound and a more relaxed hand.

I can play the Rain Song on my acoustic…or so I thought. A masterful arrangement and superb performance. It’s lightyears beyond anything I can do. Thanks! I’m subscribing.

Hi, it's impossible to play even the melody in this piece if you don't want to lose some of the harmony and i didn't want that. I broke my right hand 3 months ago, i am now slowly doing better and started recording new material, i should post something new soon. Probably next week i will post a video tutorial about the barrè chords and how to really make it right. if you want.. stay tuned and thanks again for your beautiful words 8 )

@@NotoriousFunk that is super cool and classy how you did all of it , . And , also any help would be greatly appreciated in some tutorial vids. I do better visually learning indeed...Having broke down hands makes it a challenge, but I'm down for some Shaolin Notorious Funk Guitar Stretches, it just may look unorthodox the way I do it. Dexterity getting better all the time..Also, ...Glad to hear you have more material on the way and you're still fighting the good fight. Much respect . -Scotty B (aka Rustbelt Gypsy)

Thanks a lot Sungwoo for your beautiful words, it's a small channel for the moment, i/we don't care too much about numbers as soon as i am happy with what we produce, had a very tough year and had to stop for few months playing the guitar due to family problems then broke my hand and had to sit and rest. I am now returning in shape and just posted a duet of classical guitar, it's on the channel, let me know what do you think when you have a chance. By the way, don't know if you just love this piece or if you play the guitar but i am recording a tutorial note by note of this rendition, going to be a long video but i will talk even about how to be more musical and not only about fingering and right hand. I should post it before the end of the year. Thanks again for your support, it means a lot to me. Fede

@@NotoriousFunkMan I really hope everything get recovered soon. Family issue and physical injury have been my critical setback of my life too; I feel you having a tough days but dont let it get you too long. I didnt know the beauty of classical guitar before watching your channel. Really appreciate it. I tried to play guitar but on the day when I realized that I am not talented, I was disappointed too deep and quit playing. On the other side, now I can enjoy the music better afterward. Talented musician like you deserve more subscribes and views. Take care man. From south korea.

@@Birdiechance-v3c Yes, things now are doing better and all i want is just serenity... You are wrong my friend, person who can't sing or who can't play do not exist, it's only a mind thing to unlock, some people are more talented than others but really everyone can play decently an instrument. I taught a 70 years old without any hope to play the guitar, he didn't become Segovia but he can play now simple studies and he enjoy a lot now the study of the guitar. So, never say never my friend! Korea must be a beautiful country and i really 'd like to visit one day, i had a Korean friend in conservatory he was a pianist and he was very good.

@@NotoriousFunk Your rendition of the Rain Song tugs on my heart strings, it's just beautiful. Thank you for bringing light into the darkness with this performance. Can't wait for your tutorial on this, I have watched every tutorial for the Rain Song and I think your version will be awesome. Sorry you have had a tough year. Tough years don't last, tough people do. BTW Tom Petty was better after he broke his hand, so lets see how that works for you. At all you other guitar players don't try. It I have broken most of my fingers, some of them several times and I'm blaming my bad guitar playing on that LOL!!!
