"Thy fate is the common fate of all Into each life some rain must fall Some days must be dark n dreary" SUPERB lines mirroring the realities of life. Along side the 'dreamy' exists the 'dreary' n both must be accepted with equanimity.. Thanks for uploading another great poem!
@_findingGod3 жыл бұрын
For some reason the word equanimity reminds me of Goenka. That's how much impact his course had on me. Hello there, human. Wishing you equanimity in both dreary and dreamy days ❤️

‘After the sun the rain After the rain the sun This is the way of life til the work be done’ This was the simplest hymn we sang at primary school and I still exchange these words with my adult children when we’re having a tough day. And we remind ourselves that most of the time we are miserable over first world problems...

Does anyone know what year this was written? Longfellow had some quite tragic moments in his life, so it's always nice when you know out of what experiences such poems might been inspired from.
@bobsaccount15612 жыл бұрын
It was published in 1842. His first wife passed away in 1831 - it affected him greatly and wrote several poems about her a few years later. His second wife he had been trying to court for nearly a decade - she only accepted in 1843 - that also ended in tragedy with his wife dying from burns in 1861 - he himself got badly burned trying to save her and started growing a beard to hide them after.
