My first car (that my dad bought me) cost $300. The mostly red car had a blue front quarter panel and black tape to cover the rust spots. When you turned on the vents, pine needles would fly all over the car. When you pulled into the gas station, you had to fill the oil and check the gas. Sometimes you needed 2 feet to start it and to hold your tongue right (it was an automatic) We named it the red rocket. I drove her for over 2 years and sold her for $500. 😂😂. I mean, if you never drive a hooptie, you are missing the opportunity to acquire the life stories that go with it 😂😂😂😂

I've got a hooptie portfolio at this point. 1985 Dodge D150 for $500 needed steering column. Sold it for $100. Driver door wouldn't shut, smoked to high heaven, and motor mounts were held together with bailing wire. 1993 chevy 1500 SWB paid $800. Needed tune up, light switch started arcing while driving home and I lost all lights. It was about 9pm and dark. Had it over 4yrs and sold it for $400 because I needed bail money. I've got a couple others that I didn't have long that were real trash. But my current hooptie is a 2008 dodge dakota sxt extended cab. It's been wrecked multiple times prior to me owning it. But I've had it since 2018 when my grandpa died. Bought it for $1500 from his estate sale. Currently has 189k miles on it.

Dave is so inspirational and John on his show because of them I started doing Uber Eats while looking for my real job. I now have a part time job in my field and do Uber eats along with raising with my three children. Listening to Dave say one of the reasons people don’t succeed is the belief that they can’t had made me believe that I can. John Delaney saying why don’t you believe you are worth it has made me know that I am worth it!! Thank you guys for helping me with my life.

When I was younger, I thought my parents were total failures because they couldn't/wouldn't contribute to my college. Now I'm glad that I had to find my own financing (meaning I had to keep my grades up and my nose clean and get scholarships) and that they didn't take out these awful "Parent Plus" loans. Those frikkin' loans are like albatrosses around people's necks!

“A society that puts equality - in the sense of equality of outcome - ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality nor freedom. The use of force to achieve equality will destroy freedom, and the force, introduced for good purposes, will end up in the hands of people who use it to promote their own interests.” -Milton Friedman

For the disabled young man, social security disability offers a path toward returning to work. They give the disabled person a two year transition period, and benefits are not completely cut off (depending on how much money the person is making) during that transition. If he were to relapse sometime in that two year period, and be unable to work again, then he returns to his disability payments from the government. It's a little more complicated than this explanation, but I have a family member who is also young and disabled. We tried to transition him to working, but he was not able to work afterall. Vocational rehab in your state is the resource that can assist the young man who wants to work / build wealth.

Your relative is probably eligible for an ABLE account. He can save and invest without the money being counted as an asset. Best of all, others can gift money into the account and it does not count as income!

Thank you for explaining that. I have no problem paying this for deserving people who want to better themselves who will actually better themselves. As for those who are in and out of rehab to get an endless supply of free money, that disgusts me.

Don't talk to me about being debt free this week alone I paid $9500 on taxes/ insurance and $585 for healthcare.. And i'm supposed to be debt free? .It doesn't exist.. Becoming "debt free " made me realize just how much debt I still have and will always have... I was going to scream: "I'm debt free" but then I realized if I don't send this very large annual check, they will take my house... That's hardly being debt free... Come on everyone it's time for reality now....

I live debt free except our mortgage, we live within our means and budget EVERY month. This is how we manage to save money and put extra towards our mortgage every month. If you aren't budgeting and focusing on getting out of debt I can see how you miss the mark every month. This podcast has kept us on track and has given us hope. I hope it does the same for you.

@MoKa444 You missed the point. Nobody is debt free, there's thousands and thousands of dollars of debt every single month, even if you" pay everything off". Even billionaires are not debt free. You can't prepay your property taxes years in advance because "they" haven't worked up the bill yet. Same thing with healthcare. That is a monthly debt, a bill. That you cannot pre-pay off ever. We can all sit around and pretend we're debt free, but it's just not reality. Again, They will take your house if you do not pay your taxes. Therefore you don't own your house. I don't either. You have a zero balance on the mortgage but you don't own your house because there's a piece of ground under it (called land) you don't own and they want money to plow the streets, etc.
