I am from West Virginia. I went to Marshall so I got to see Moss play a lot more than some others. Moss was so great a receiver that he was more than the game of football. But it was his misfortune to play within the traditional football schemes designed for "normal" players. For that reason, no team was ever able to take full advantage of what he truly was. The offensive set that every team should have used was this: They needed to use a double tight end, double back set with Moss the lone receiver to the wide side of the field. The reason for doing this is obvious. Randy Moss could never be covered one on one. Any opponent would necessarily have had to double cover Moss on every play. This essentially means that with two running backs and two tight ends lining up on every play, the offense would outnumber the defense 10 players to 9. No defensive team could survive a 60 minute game against such an offense. The quarterback would have only one read at the line of scrimmage, would the safety be covering Moss. If yes, you run. If no, you pass. Simple, but devastating. Moss is the only receiver in history who could have been used in this way. That is why he is the greatest receiver of all time.

@@kylegood412 No, he shits on him talent wise. Jerry Rice's route-running and overall skill and production at the position prove he was the best. He was even good at an older age because he was so consistent. He was by far the best receiver in history, and history makes that indisputable. Moss was #2. He did far less with twice the talent. That outline just how perfect a player Rice was. Still, Moss was amazing and I have nothing but, respect for both his game and his IQ.

Minneapolis media always tries to act like they can compete with the big city by tearing down our heroes... I love the arrogance, the emotion and the candor Randy displays. The big complaint about Moss came from his quote about taking plays "off". It was taken out of context. Moss never sat down to get oxygen or came out after sprinting 100 yds on back to back plays and sprinting back to the huddle. Sometimes he would just run 10yds and stop on the sideline appearing to take the play off... But he's also got 2 or 3 defenders with him, taking them out of the play... Best Ever ! Far and above, just like most of his catches

They love to put up his stats vs Rice's stats but they don't show the yearly averages (Which are higher for Moss). Everybody knows if you have Moss on the left, Marvin Harrisonon the right, and Rice in the slot, you double cover Moss every time.

Just to clarify. The way they should have lined up offensively is to have two running backs and two tight ends. This puts 10 men on offense against 9 on defense in the box dedicated to the running game. Then , all you have to do is split Moss to the wide side of the field. From that point on, the quarterback calls a running play unless Moss is not double covered.

I got to watch Randy from when he was a kid, up to now... and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. He's turned out to be an outstanding adult, consummate pro athlete, and a really good sports commentator and analyst. He's well spoken with a good command of the English language. I'm very proud of this kid that hails from small town West Virginia that always has the stigma of being looked down upon just because of where he's from. I have a daughter who will be starting her senior year at Marshall, but no sons...but if I did, would be just as proud to have him grow up and be the same kind of man that Randy is. Go Herd...

Your point about coaches determining who is featured and the games within the game is right on the money. Nice upload by the way.

Carter made this quote right after he was snubbed for the HOF again which, IMO, makes the HOF a joke 'cause CC is one of the best ever. My point is quitting does not define the career of Moss. To call him a quitter because he walked off the line on some short yardage plays is like saying he can’t catch because he’s dropped some passes in his career. I say again NFL D coordinators do not game plan for quitters. Moss is the most feared WR in history; that FACT is what defines him in my opinion

this is pretty simple: Randy's 'bad rep' is based off just two incidents: leaving the sideline before a game was over, and saying 'I play when I want to'.. THERE IS NO PLAYER WHO PLAYED WITH HIM THAT SAID ANYTHING BUT GOOD THINGS ABOUT HIM. This is why most athlete interviews for years have been cookie-cutter--baking your own cookies, making your own words, speaking your mind is dangerous to NFL players. 'The nail that sticks out gets hammered down' and the media jumps on anything like rabid dogs...an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o37WpX6OZ9ujmbs TO was an atrocious teammate, and the Moss quote wasn't even accurate, but do these guys care?

Jerry Rice is arguably the greatest football player of all time & he still doesn't get his due because there exist a myth about him that questioned his speed; he may have run a 4.5, 4.6 against a clock but on Sunday's between the lines he was a 4.3 guy. I didn't create these Moss myth busters to put Rice down I created them to put Moss up because anyone who comes anywhere near JR numbers has to be competitive & have a passion for the game: he absolutely, positively cannot be a lazy quitter.

Thanks for watching. What tickles me is that the media acts as if Moss ran to the podium on Media Day shouting "I am the greatest WR ever!". He responded to a question. Then they all scoff & put up Rice's 20yr numbers to Moss' 14yr numbers without mentioning that Rice played 6 more years and that 16 of the 20 were played with HOF QB on dynasty teams. Rice was phenomenal, his records will never be broken but Kareem was incredible & has more points than MJ...doesn't make him better.

When they broke down the 10 best seasons ever by a Wide Reciever of all time, Jerry Rice was 8 of them, the other was Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison. This was a few years ago though, so I imagine his Patriot season stole one, and so has Calvin Johnson now. That would still make one player account for half of them. Jerry was still putting up top of the league numbers in his 40s and nearly carried the Raiders to back to back superbowls. [Tuck rule screwed one, lost other to Bucs.]
