Your videos are a blessing! I binge watched them, even though I’m an avid arch user for some time now! Absolutely inspiring KZbin videos, always learning something new! Keep up your good work I absolutely appreciate it!

Good short review. At one of your past videos you had commented that you would do a ranger review, and you’ve done it.

Ranger also works really well with icons from nerd fonts I've used it both in i3 and awesome wm.

With a little fiddling, Ranger can preview svgs as well.

Outstanding! What are you using that allows you to pull up the images and the video? And, is editing the conf file need to have that work? And, your desktop there - is it a WM or a DE?
@eflinux
@eflinux 2 жыл бұрын
No, that works out of the box, at least in a DE. On a WM you might have to install some extra plugins.

@@eflinux I also loved that your previews are in "floating" windows. Made an adjustment for mpv and feh in my dwm conf and it works as you demonstrated. Well done, EF, well done and thank you.

Ermanno, Any chance you could do a deep dive on Grub w/ luks and how to get grub un-encrypt a luks2 part using pbkdf2? And also to set the Virtualbox EFI to boot to the correct file?

Ranger looks awesome. Thanks for this overview. What about LF file manager? I've read a lot about it but I should like to know your opinion.

Yes, you just scratch the surface here. Surprise you didn't mention about scope or rifle here. ranger --copy-config=all Default look is OK. But I like my in a three boxes look(columns). Much more to cover, but you did get the basic's of it all. Many options for how you like to preview pane/window to look and act. Other tools that are needed to make ranger more powerful; highlight atool caca-utils w3m poppler-utils.

These CLI file managers always seemed more inefficient to me than just a plain terminal. Why would I need to have CLI file manager when I can just do "ls" and perform operations on files via any program I want?
@eflinux
@eflinux 2 жыл бұрын
Probably a matter of personal preference. As an admin at work, I definitely use only the terminal.

It's funny, I wanted to get into Ranger as well, yet will use the command line to most of the time. Or if I'm lazy, I'll open Thunar.

file managers are faster, for example how will you move many files? Even with autocompletion it will be slow.

Hey Ermanno. I don't understand why one would use this? Is something one would use along with a WM? If so, guess this is out of my domain. Thank you anyway for the totally instructional videos!

I guess it comes down to personal preference. I like both approaches, terminal and file browser, although I tend to use the first one the most.
