The ranger said welcome to a real Florida State Park... he was right!

The panhandle of Florida is dotted with awesome state parks. Some feel like resorts, some like campgrounds and others like... well, a real Florida State Park... like Grayton Beach State Park.
What makes a park feel this way? For us it's more of a feeling of stepping back in time. The locals call it "Old Florida". It's a feeling of being rustic, with sandy roads... lots of vegetation... privacy... lots of wildlife... and for this park both the ocean with its white sand and miles of lakes and bays to explore. And a bike trail that takes you into the town of Grayton Beach for fun, food and exploring. We found Grayton Beach State Park to be everything he said it was going to be.

Salad looks delicious! I love corn and black beans together. I make fiesta chicken in the crock pot. It has chicken, black beans, corn, tomatoes and taco seasoning. Do you guys use a crock pot on your travels? I have a mini one and it makes plenty. A mini crock pot wouldn't take up much room in your RV. Would be good for those rainy days to make soup or chili! Can't beat your options of cooking outside though! Poor Maggie looking for squirrels! Beautiful sunset! Great camping spot! Maggie gave me a good laugh getting in her spot! Love her!

We have taken an instant pot before which can also be used as a crock pot. It is a good option but Owen loves to cook outside so we didn’t use it as much as I thought we would.

Looks like you’re actually at Grayton Beach State Park. Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is a little ways back toward Destin. Both parks are great places to visit. They are both “Real Florida State Parks”.

We were there in January. A nice park and great location. The old village of Grayton Beach looked interesting but we couldnt find a parking spot and wish I had my bikes to ride over. You really make good use of your outside stove.

Oh my, welcome to Paradise, our home. You know lots of folks, including us, love the Keys but the panhandle is the more elegant Florida lifestyle in my humble opinion. I agree with the Ranger that you’ve found a Real Florida state park. He knows well of what he spoke Do you know that “Real Florida” is actually a thing known particularly to us RVers around the world? I suppose many only know Florida as the place with all the theme parks, such a shame for them.. Kinda pretty like the Keys but with less crowds. It’s heartwarming to watch you enjoying our home as much as we do. Helps us to appreciate it more too. Your burgers & veggies were five star. Do you think you’ll ever use the Blackstone again? Seems you could cook directly on that and not need both your outdoor burner and the cast iron. Happy travels and be safe. 🏕️

We have really enjoyed the Panhandle this year, we’ve never been able to get into a lot of these campgrounds before. It is paradise for sure. I do think we will use the Blackstone again, the reason we didn’t take it on this trip is that we wanted to give the outdoor kitchen a try and see which one we like best. We definitely do enjoy the quiet and peaceful campground life. Nothing better than sitting quietly and enjoying the moment. Two great meals, Owen! We haven’t stayed at the Grayton campground but we did drive around it last year, checking it out for hopefully getting a future reservation. We also walked the trail around the lakeside. So pretty. We always enjoy seeing Maggie living the life.

That park was originally a privately owned RV resort in the 90's. The state bought it and turned it into a state park. I have stayed there several times as a resort and state park.

We really like having the room and it is easy to put up. However, we don’t usually put it up if there are no bugs… we’ve been lucky in that aspect. We also like storing out bikes in the room at night to keep the dew off of them and it keeps them out of site.
