That is true, though his production per game is still pretty rough. 6 points through 28 games played isn’t great. By comparison, Jack Hughes, also injured for part of the season, who will always be his comparison, has 45 points in 32 games this year.

@@merkeljohn Hughes also plays top line minutes, while Kakko's linemates were Bonino/Cuylle. He and Wheeler swapped spots in order to get Wheeler/Krieder/Zib off the skids, which hasn't really worked. Then Kakko's leg injury kept him on the shelf for the majority of the season.

In defense of Lafreniere everybody ahead of him in points is on the first power play unit. When you take away power play points he’s got about the same amount of points as Trocheck and Mika. Just think he’s being undervalued. Especially with his grit and effort. Always noticeable on the ice. Kakko’s been tough. His possession and two way game is really good but he’s gotta start finishing too.

Any NYR fans in here that are about to freak out, don’t. These guys are just taking a headline and running with it blindly because Jesse is a casual NYR fan. Think about how often during Drurys time as GM that a leak that was true has come out and then think about how ‘the insiders’ are the one saying this. Its gonna be the next level of GMing, and the future best GMs are gonna be good at it: you have to know when to trade prospects. You have to know you 'missed' before it's too late and you kill the player's value. Kakko and Laf have already passed that line. Laf less so, but Kakko? Rangers could've had a king's ransom for him. Not anymore. And I bet they will ask too much , not trade him this year and get even less when they finally do next year/this summer. The best GMs in the coming years will be smarter about letting assets go before they lose their value. I think the Rangers fucked up because they are so close.... once they saw that Laf and Kakko weren't going to have their predicted impact immediately, they should have considered moving them. Rangers didn't have 2-3 years to develop them, they should have moved them for prime players right away and could realistically have been sitting on two cups right now.

I don’t think anybody can be considered a bust before 25. Especially with no power play time and bottom 6 minutes primarily. I have a feeling that if he’s moved it wouldn’t take long for him to start soaring. Might be exactly what he needs.

Here's an Idea ,put Kakko on the line with Trocheck n Panarin and see how well he scores as opposed to Lafreniere and see who scores more. Laf can't do anything if not on the 2nd line....
