I was working in computer sales at Frys Electronics in Phoenix in the mid 2000's. A quiznos opened up across the street, to promote it they dropped off a ton of coupons where if you bought a drink you got any sandwich free, no expiration. I found the stack in our breakroom and swiped them all into my locker. I ate there every day for months, now that Quiznos, Frys and my physique are all gone.

Lol I had a stack full of those exact same promos and did the same as there was one within like a 2 minute walking distance of one of the first jobs I had as a teen. So ate good every day for almost a year. That French dip sandwich they had with the peppercorn dressing was so damn good and the main sandwich I got especially when it was cold out as I worked outside mostly. I knew the place wasn't going to last because I feel like 98% of the time I would go into that restaurant which was in a busy shopping center I was usually the only customer there and maybe they would have 1 max 2 others at busy, usual lunch times. You could tell it was brutal there and a ticking time bomb.

It wasn’t the quirky commercials that did them in… it was the declining quality of their subs that did it. They expanded too quickly without a plan for their suppliers to keep up with the demand and they started substituting lower quality ingredients and the taste just wasn’t the same.

Whichever ones were in Columbus, Ohio where I live, the subs were toasted, but the meat was still cold. Which makes me wonder why Quiznos is positively compared to Subway, which at least had the option to warm up cold sandwiches. If the expenses of each franchisee aren't what killed Quiznos, the spider monkeys sure did.

Once I tried Quiznos, I was immediately hooked, and I never went back to subway. Even to this day, I've had subway maybe 5 times in the past 20 years. I worked for Quiznos for a number of years. After they hired that Burger King exec Greg Brenneman the entire menu got wrecked. They got rid of the hoagie bread for the Steakhouse beef dip which ruined a core staple menu item (Normal bread for au jus - stupid), changed the toasting levels for the bread (no more deep blackened edges I mean look at @10:41 its barely warm), and added numerous failed products like bread bowls and garlic bread to the menu while cutting back on quality. But damn, that chicken carbonara....

I'd love it if you could make a video talking about the history of another sandwich chain, Which Wich? I love how customizable their sandwiches are and the unique ordering method of having the customer writing their sandwich choices onto the paper bags. You were also encouraged to draw on the back of your sandwich bag when you were done and then attach it to the wall along with all the other customer's art-covered bags! They also made the world's best ice cream milkshakes. There used to be one inside my local Target, and then another stand-alone shop in the next city over. Now they're both gone and the stand-alone shop has been replaced by an Ike's Love and Sandwiches and the Target one has been replaced by basically a self-checkout soda fountain with grab-and-go pizza shelves. The Pizza Hut branded pies are premade, reheated on site, offer zero customization, and are quietly stocked by anonymous employees in the back that you never interact with. The next closest Which Wich? is now more than 35 miles away, and they've almost all but completely vanished from LA county.

I wasn't made aware of Quiznos until long after the Sponge Monkey ads stopped airing. I was shown them much later and was bewildered. There were once five Quiznos in my city. They slowly began vanishing, one by one, starting in 2017. The last one closed in 2022, and I was quite upset. If I wanted to get my hands on a Chicken Carbonara (my favorite!) with a side of Batch 83, I would now have to travel over an hour in either direction on the highway to do it.

It's a real shame how things went down with Quiznos. At their peak, Quiznos had four locations in my area and all of them closed as fast as they opened. Quiznos didn't treat their franchisees very well and cause a lot of them to go broke due to poor business practices. I honestly miss Quiznos because despite what happened between the corporation and their franchisees, I loved their sandwiches. I would eat there as often as I could. There are no locations left in New England since the fall of Quiznos and if I wanted to go to there, the nearest location to me is all the way down in Washington, DC.

I tried to eat at Quiznos once because Subway had did not have any toasted sandwiches. The only way to get a hot sandwich at Subway was to have them use their microwave. The sandwich Quiznos offered did not taste good at all and that location closed down to later become a Papa Murphy's. Another Quiznos location was about open and even sent out flyer coupons in anticipation of their grand opening. When I arrived the location had not opened but they claimed it would at some point. It never did and in fact that location was remodeled and became a Subway, by which time Subway started offering their sandwiches with a toasted option.

This was fascinating stuff. Cheers. Obviously, I had no idea what constituted a Quiznos. Why would I? The ads you exhibited seem akin to the Tango ad campaign; weird, bizarre and random, with a slim thread being popular with the younger demographic. I wonder, was the bread not really bread? I recall Subway facing issues with their sugary loaf when they tried to break into overseas markets. Or, is it just a normal thing in the States to expect bread substitute, making it tacit?

When it comes to Quiznos exclusive deal with Pepsi, it lasted until 2021 when it expired & Quiznos went back to selling Coke products. It also ended because Pepsi signed an exclusive deal with Jersey Mikes around that same time. Also when it comes to Coke having an exclusive deal with Subway, it only applies in the US as up in Canada, Pepsi products are sold instead.

There was still one attached to a gas station in South Louisiana where I grew up but I think the direct hit by hurricane Ida in 2021 killed it off (along with my house and vehicle). Still, until that day, I was a huge fan of the chicken carbonara and even their weird raspberry lemonade drink. Always wondered why I stopped seeing them pop up. And yes, I still remember that song instantly. It was at one time creepy and hilarious.

I loved their grilled subs. The location near my home was surrounded by fast food joints. Never stood a chance.

Sucks, because I used to love Quiznos back in the day. They had some great hot subs for good prices. Jersey Mikes is insanely expensive, and Subway is dog water.

Quiznos still has some of the best sandwiches in the business and the most unique way of toasting them. Also like how they have their sauteed onions and mushrooms. Big fan of their peppercorn dressing, too. And their soups. If I want to go to one, I have to drive like 45 minutes. So, don't really go there, any more

A Jimmy John's opened behind our local Quiznos and a Subway opened up across the street from it resulting in the closure of our only Quiznos in town.

I really liked their sandwiches, but their publicity (ads, franchise woes) is what condemned them to my friends, and so we all stopped going

I used to live right next to the original Quiznos in Denver around 2019/2020. The area isn't as fancy as the narrator here lets on. But more than that, by the time I lived there any semblance of uniqueness that might have come with being the original store was well and truly gone. It had been gutted and replaced by a completely cookie-cutter Quiznos, save for the sign out front which still marked it was the original. I was disappointed. Since it was literally right next door, I was probably one of like, a dozen people still going there while the pandemic hit. Even before the pandemic though, it always seemed fairly low on customers, often empty. It wasn't mentioned in the video, but last I heard that original location is now closed and gone after they were unable to pay their taxes.

I had to stop and look it up. Only two left in the Bay Area and not convenient. I loved them the times I had them but they're always going to be number two after Togo's, which I grew up on!

I loved quiznos back in the mid 2000s, however, when I started going into stores where the owner operators hardly spoke english, and they were selling random items on the counters almost like a backwoods gas station, it was odd.

Any coupon works? Brilliant ad. A coupon in the newspaper or mail only exists to get you in the door. Who cares what it says, who cares who paid to have it printed. I 100% stand behind this ad

The Quiznos in my small town lasted about a year. I ate there once, and that was more than enough. $15 for a sandwich, when I could get a MUCH better sandwich at Subway for $5. I don't know anyone in town that was sad to see them go.

Quiznos was the first to raise their prices to what we see today, except they did it in like 2010. Nobody was willing to pay $13 for a 6 inch sub combo in 2010.

Prior to 2020, I had not had a Quiznos sub in over a decade. Then I traveled to see a friend in Spokane, and in the airport on the way back they had a Quiznos, so I got a sub. It was pretty good and it's a bit of a shame to see how far they've fallen.
