This song is universal, change is inevitable. Wherever your hometown is you get to a certain age and you look at it the changes that have happened. I look at my hometown and what the last half century has brought it breaks my heart. What I knew and was familiar is all gone, landmarks torn down and places with different names now. In this life change is the only thing that is certain, and not necessarily change for the better.

I'll never sicken of this song, and especially of Ronnie's voice. Before my late father-in-law passed, I was so lucky to be able to immerse myself in Ireland, the music, and the way of life. Nothing will ever beat those days in my life. I learned and absorbed so much, and I'll always be grateful and miss that big bear of a man, who called me his "pal", and "the man for the job" 💚💌🧡

Can't help but become emotional when I hear this. My late father was born in Dublin in 1933,and lived through some of those times, along with all his siblings- all of them long passed now-each of them a true Dub,and all of them, bar my father,spending their entire lives in Dublin. He moved to London in the mid 60's,for work I guess. Such a pity that those times are long gone,but progress is what it is. At least we have the legacy of the Dubliner's music.

Easily one of my favourite irish songs but man is it sad. I'm old enough to remember how it was since "progress" came along. Donegal was always the forgotten County so some of old Ireland is retained in the west. I used to joke when I lived in London that me and others were irish boomerangs... we'd sing sad songs about coming home but never return. I came home. 🙂

Ronnie was well loved by my gran and was always played in my Grans house before she became ill. He was my motivation to go over the Irish Sea and explore where my roots began I’ve always wanted to visit Dublin but never got the chance to but after listening to the Dubliners and the Irish music then I made sure it would finally happen. I’m proud of my Irish heritage and on Monday I will be able to explore further into how my ancestors lived. Thank you Ireland for bringing so much joy to my life. 🇮🇪☘️
