The here we go just happened and I'm very glad we got him! The payment plan to go over 3 years is genius is as well so let us spend more this season on players we need. Zirkzee being the first signing of this season gives me real hope that our attacking play is going to shift and we're going to be a lot more dynamic. It might be long term planning by the club to bring him in now since he's 23 to replace Bruno (29 years) in 3-4 years time. He can easily cover Rasmus if he gets injured and since he's 2-footed, he can easily cover both flanks due to injuries if needed as an inverted forward. He gives Ten Hag a number of options tactical-wise. His skillset and abilities allow him to cover both wings, number 10 and striker. I'd say give him a season to adapt and he'll shine in the 2nd season onwards once he gets used to the high octane, physical style of the Premier League.

He will be used similar to how Martial was used. He appears to be a support centre forward. He has the attributes to bring others into play. I imagine he is being brought in to help the LW and RW. Also, I imagine the number 10 will use him as a target man.

Zirkee, Mount, Amad, Martinez, Dalot, Shaw, Mainoo, De Ligt. Those are some really good technical players on the ball. Ugarte looks good on the ball too.

@@tmbteuclid I think Mount has shown he can do it in the Prem at Chelsea, but he's not had a real run in the first team at United due to injury. If he can reach his ability at Chelsea he will be a fantastic part of the squad. If everyone is at their best though, I see him playing more of a bench role.

I wonder about the team role that Zirkzee might play. The most obvious(?) as a number 9 that can feed the pace of Rashford and Garnacho. The other role, that slightly crosses my mind, is having both Hojlund and Zirkzee swapping places between striker and left flank; leaving defenders wary of each of those in different ways. Hojlund's pace, crossing/pull back ability from the left, plus an accurate strike from inside or outside the box. Zirkzee being able to go either side of defenders and presenting a danger with through balls and shots. Indeed, with Garnacho's adaptability, the three of them could potentially all swap interchangeably a bit, which would make things difficult for an opposing defence. I can imagine some defences being pretty terrified of Garnacho playing a central role with threats either side from Hojlund and Zirkzee.

He seems like what could be a perfect Ten Hag striker in the making. Sure he doesn't have the best goal ratio, but the way he plays in the build up will result in a lot of team goals and a fluid attack. Reminds me of Martial under Ten Hag - the few times Martial managed to make it on the pitch during Ten Hags tenure (injuries), he always played really well and the team attacked really well with him. The technical ability of Zirkzee is even better than what Martial had. He offers a nice contrast to an off-ball focused striker like Hojlund.

About the number of goals and assists: I don't think you can look at this without adjusting for the league and team bias. For whatever reason, (Italian style defensive football stereotypes perhaps) Serie A has a substantially lower average goals per game than the PL - (the PL has about 25% more per match) and it's also higher for the top few teams (that aspect isn't unique to either league, and it's anecdotally down to better attacking service etc). So by the time you make the adjustment, its closer to 17 goals equivalent. Which is actually very reasonable as it would put him in a bunch of respectable forwards.

What are the chances he can play CAM? If he’s got the intelligence, vision, and creativity, he seems like he could be a future answer at CAM if Mount doesn’t pan out or can’t stay healthy. Having Ruud around probably helps his striking and scoring. Bc if he can command defenders and fend them off with his size and athleticism, feels like it opens up Hojlund to have a field day
