I have honestly never done a gilded athena voyage as I got to pirate legend after you were able to get them so I lost out and I have never found a crew with one. Sadly when I get loads of loot there is always a compitent crew using DA sails that sinks me so it would be risky. Great video.

This year we made Rank.5 Athena Emissary with the Veil-voyage while checking the Map for Reapers every 10 minutes or so. And when we did it, everything still looked clear. We whipped the gilded Athena out and completed the entire voyage also. But when aiming for outposts, THE WHOLE SERVER crowded in the region we were in. God this was so annoying. :) No Reapers until the end though. Yet not all foe's hoist the Reapers-emissary either. Definitely a tense year in this game to make voyages. So many bored PvP'ers who never find each other. ;)

As soon as he talked about portal hopping, i knew what was going to happen and yet, it was still funny to see their reaction. To give a little more detail about what happened (for those who don't know). All your voyages are linked to the server you're on. If you portal hop to another server, all your active voyages will disappear HOWEVER if you reach rank 5 on an emissary, don't take the emissary quest and portal hop, you can still take the emissary quest on the server you end on. So you can "save" that quest if the server you're on is getting a little bit too dangerous for your taste.

I’m going to be honest, even though I’ll get a lot of people arguing with me for saying this. I think cliffs channel is one of the if not the most entertaining gaming channel on KZbin, Whether your into sea of thieves or not. Cliff can tell a story unlike most KZbinrs out there. He’s also able to maintain a upload schedule that’s pretty rigorous for the type of content he’s releasing. Keep up the great work cliff! Trust me this channel is definitely going to grow a lot!

Man, me and my friends did a couple of these recently. And by that, I mean we decided to do all three of ours in the same session. Took us 10 hours to complete, but not only did we manage to sell all the loot we got, we also managed to upgrade Athena Emissary to level 5 three times in a row. It was a hell of a payday for us. The best part was, by some form of miracle, nobody bothered us at all.

When I did a guilded athena voyage one time I ended up being chased by a reaper crew. I have the final checkpoint of the shores of gold saved so I smacked that down and hid in the shroud until they got bored and left.

Oh hey, I did my Gilded Athena recently too! (While being attacked CONTINUOUSLY by PVE on the islands, so I feel your pain) If it makes you feel better, at least the Gilded voyage doesn't even give much more rep than a normal Athena voyage, and doesn't even get you to level 5, so all in all I think Legend of the Veil is still a more efficient/prosperous voyage at this point?

I should also give this bit of advice for people thinking about portal hopping to run. You lose all your loot as well. You basically lose everything but resources in your barrels. Made that mistake once when I had a bunch of loot on a solo sloop while being harassed for an hour by a 4 man reaper galleon, and got tired of running and wanted to dip. All the loot apparently stayed behind

I fully agree with you on the whole runner thing. Especially when the person chasing you has no foot in the game. Due to them not having any loot. Either through pve or a chase we all have to work for our loot. 🍻

Great video Cliff, Your story telling is as entertaining as ever. However this video really highlights the core weakness of the PVP in the game. At the end of the day, we got 1 crew who were frustrated from an unsatisfying PVP encounter, and another crew that lost the rarest voyage in the game, neither crew gaining anything out of it. At least we get an entertaining video out of it. Sorry for being so down, I guess the video just hits really close to reason why none of my friends want to play SoT with me. as you approach the portal for the tall tale you get a warning telling you loose the loot and the active voyage, however if you are already in the portal when it opens you never get the opportunity to see that warning.... also, get yourself the "Heart of Fire" tall tale checkpoint, having it active disables most of the pve spawns outside the devils roar. so you dont have to deal with all the random pve spawns, only scripted spawns (like those that spawn when you dig up a chest). and you can have it active at the same time as most voyages (not the veil voyage tho)

Can confirm that the voyage is worth it. I’d been sitting on one since Christmas and the time it took was like a normal Athena voyage. However, not only do you get top tier loot for order of souls and gold hoarder, you are also granted with 3 chest of legends at the end

i had one of these saved for another time, and i needed space for another voyage, but forgot that the athena voyage i had was a gilded one, so i discarded it, then realized what i had scrapped about half an hour later and promptly scuttled my ship out of sadness

Also great tip is put down shroud breaker before you start the quest, because it forces all emerging skeleton spawns to be at level one, which essentially means they’ll be a lot easier to kill

Hey just thought I should mention something about athena voyages and Gilded voyages. Whenever you are on a normal athena or gilded Pve on islands tend to show up more and alot more keg skellies, at least with my voyages, have not confirmed this in any way yet. As for Gilded what makes them nice is that the 8 maps that you get like an athena are condensed to 8 maps only on Crooks Hollow and Lone Cove, aside from the 2 bounty quest (Order of the Souls) you get which can be on separate islands , as for the athena where you can have duplicate islands or none at all. Awesome video as always tho.

Me and my team didn't knew how good the guilded athena voyage was. 3 chests of legends.... and ofc we get chased right at the end. My heart rate was through the roof. Eventually we just beached our ship at a outpost and delivered those 3 at once. Screw the ship and everything else as a bonus.

Hey Cliff! I used to be an avid viewer of yours when you were still doing overwatch videos and have recently seen you've picked up SoT. I just want to give you a tip, when you fire a gun, you can cancel a part of the reload animation by pressing the stow key twice in quick succession, which will come in helpful in both PvP and PvE. Some may call it an exploit, which it isn't, even some SoT partners use it so there's no need to worry about possible "punishment". The content you create is great by the way!

cliff pro tip: have the Heart of fire tall tale active, it disables all enemy spawns as far as I can tell. would've saved u alot of headache. edit: and this is why my friend and I have all useable tall tale checkpoints ready for sweatlords.

Hey cliff another strategy would be instead of portal hopping go to the shores of gold. Since most players (especially arena refugees) never did the tall tales this will allow you to make a getaway and keep your voyage. Edit: you can follow this up by escaping through the devils roar and selling at Morrows peak outpost

Go to the ashen region for order of the souls voyages the islands will help you complete the quests just if you see black smoke coming from a mountain get out of there asap until the ash is no longer falling and wait for the volcano to stop

Hey there, this was another good vid from the legendary Cliff. I actually realised when watching the video that that was actually myself you killed at after 6 minutes into the video. I know this because I remember some aspects on what happened that day. I remember I was on the galleon at Galleon’s Grave after joining an open crew galleon. Nothing much was happening and I saw the brig from the outpost and decided to swim over (hence why you heard the cannon shot). After a long swim, I had reached the island but was spotted and quickly killed (as evident to the video). I didn’t realise you were talking as I was in a party on Xbox, therefore not able to hear game chat. I am a “sneaky pirate”. I’m sorry if I had a created a sense of foreboding on your adventure and sorry about the Gilded Athena. Once again though, good video and looking forward to the next one. Also have a good holiday.

I believe there's a tale tell in the ashen winds that you can load up which practically blocks most spawns. You'll just get the basic skellies which are 2 hits with a sword. A friend of mine showed me this last yea. Not sure if it still works tho!
