My first battle with this new system, I queued up as a defender and started a Veil of the Ancients voyage. I really expected to be invaded sooner, but I could not have asked for a better outcome: I was invaded at the very moment that the green tornado disappeared. Our tiny battle area was dominated by a literal fortress covered with unreasonably precise cannon batteries and blockaded by two rings of endlessly respawning ghost galleons. It was glorious.

As someone who is mainly a PvE player I like this update. If I want to practice PvP I can do it easily and quickly, and if I don't want PvP, most people who do are gonna be busy blasting each other, so I can probably get around to checking out tall tales for the first time without as much hassle as I've heard a lot of people having in the past.

Even as someone who dislikes engaging in pvp this 1v1 mechanic looks pretty fun, mainly because it fixes the main previously unfixable component of pvp in sea of thieves, all fights are unbalanced as a solo. Now there is actual matchmaking, well played rare.

People were toxic cause it was always frustrating to play hours just to see all your loot stolen, or beeing two inches from the outpost just to see a galleon or brig in the pursuit then having to engage in an eternal flee chased by others, so now that if you want to fight you say it out loud the same way if you are a reaper emissary you announce yourself as ready for pvp as well as warning other crews the same way you do with the new update

One of the reason SOT is so frustrating and i've seen a lot of friends leave the game and never come back is the often unresponsive controls just like it happpened here in minute 6:51 not only guns sometimes not fire but sometimes the water bucket does not respond or some other game breaking situation that fails right when you least need it to and you end up losing because of that.

since season 8 started, i have had my most epic feeling sea of thieves moment to date. i was in a duo fight with my friend vs another sloop, my friend had boarded their ship, and i decided to ram their ship with ours and board them, my friend was terrified that i left the ship unattended, however as we had just rammed them, i jumped on their ship, killed one, and jumped back on our ship to continue sailing. never felt more like a pirate lol

I honestly really like this season so far. So far the most memorable battles I’ve had were both duo sloop fights (and my crew lost both) -First one took so long that both crews ran out of supplies, the main reason I know this is because each of our crews asked the other if they were *also* out of supplies. They managed to get a good ram on us and then kept us occupied with boarding long enough for us to sink -Second one was someone spawning on my crew while we were at a Sea Fort, we lost this one due to my less than stellar sailing. On the upside, I got the last commendation I needed for the Sea Forts (Get Off My Lawn if anyone’s curious) and both my friend and I found out we have pretty decent accuracy when we aren’t having to deal with the bouncy-castle Rare calls the open sea

Honestly one of, if not the best update for SoT so far. You can either pvp to your hearts content or you can actually for once chill a bit because most people itching for pvp are either non stop invading or actually respecting that you didn't opt in and leave you be. No more searching for hours for a ship that at the end might run a cross the whole damn map for the pvp crowd and way less stress for the pve peeps. I love it!

Hey Mr story guy I have a question for you. What are your thoughts on falkor's suggested PVE horde mode that he just released a video about. If you haven't seen the video or don't plan to look at the video the gist of it is a third option on The hourglass that lets up crew go into a increasingly harder wave of PVE challenges, sea monsters, ghost ships, Skelly ships etc, and they clock over different levels of trophies that when turned in give different amounts of gold. The catch is that if you sink at any time during The horde mode or after you lose your trophy, and when you spawn back into the normal world you can still be sunk and your trophy stolen by another crew.

I found the update ok but 2 things hold me back from thinking its god tier: - queue times in oceania are already shockingly long. (even on weekends) - The amount of allegiance you get for each batte is very small.(I am a PvE player who has never won two battles in a row) which makes it very annoying to try and get the ghost curse which I have wanted for so long. These two combined have made me take a break. Hopefully more people start playing in Oceania again so I can get back into PvP and get the ghost curse.

Also note! It’s not PVP only for the new factions, you can make slow progress by stacking loot with the hourglass active and going back to vote down after! I’ve gotten to 37 in Athena’s guardians so far without sinking anyone.

Its a challenge i've set for myself to do it without ever getting any wins or proper fight rewards, like i did before with my slow grind to 75 in the other main factions (Reaper, Gold hoarder, Souls and Merchant) with no PVP (unless attacked) and no emissary flag usage. It's a slow challenge grind for me is why i do it :D

I’m still not understanding how hourglass works. I thought it was a exclusive server with 2 people in them and once someone won, the server closed and you went to another one. But I’m finding all sorts of other people doing hourglass when I’m not in it or queued for it. And I also thought you were confined to a specific part on the map but apparently you can roam wherever you want.
