I never gave them much thought to be honest. They are really diverse and touch on a variety of different music genre You totally opened my eyes to them and the album Peaceful World is a crazy cool listen! @@popgoesthe60s52 Erick, I didn't know much about The Rascals beyond the hits either. Matt's videos made me have to check out those later albums, incredible stuff! In my other comment below part two, I mention two other great albums by sixties bands The Animals and The Turtles that I don't think are very well known, but have been playing on repeat in my house. They're known for the singles, but there are no albums by all three of these bands in the Rolling Stone's top 500 albums. One of the finer things in life, discovering awesome "new" old music!

As an Italo/American I can concur: "They must have been Italian!!!" MATT: Thank you so much for such a wonderful trilogy of videos covering the history of The Rascals. I used to love their singles growing up in the Bay Area in the 60's and had some of their albums too. Your videos reminded me why i had liked them so much - though I haven't listened to them in years. Eddie Brigati (and David) such superb vocalists. I really loved their more R&B/(almost) Motown sounding music very much. That organ was magnificent. Ireally must go back and order some of the goods you described - it would be nice to hear them again. A bit of a sad ending but even the Columbia excerpts you played sounded good to me, That's life!!! Further, I really must commend you on your posts - I have never been disappointed and have felt continuously interested throughout each video. Thank you so much for your work and research - it is greatly appreciated.

Great video. I saw "Once Upon A Dream" In NYC and it was a real treat for me since as a musician and long time Rascals fan, it was one on the bands I thought I would never get to see. I had seen Felix and a few of his solo bands over the years and I saw The Gene Cornish band in the mid 80's and while they were very professional and I enjoyed them, neither felt like the Rascals. On Broadway in their reunion show, I saw and heard one of the greatest live bands that ever existed. They were tight, soulful and a lot of fun and lived up to all of my highest expectations.

Great video!! It's a shame that the Rascals didn't connect with a more...college crowd?...heading in to the 1970s. As I recall, those last three albums put the group in a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" category. Radio was only playing the established hit singles of the group, but there was no "nostalgia" circuit for any group yet. If the group tried to put out blatant reconstructions of their old sound as singles (aka: trying to sound like themselves) they'd be scrutinized. By the same token, when they tried to break away and adapt to a different sound...they were scrutinized. As a result, their albums SEARCH AND NEARNESS, PEACEFUL WORLD and THE ISLAND OF REAL were seemingly disregarded by fans, and the record labels they were issued on. Copies seem to be immediately put in the $1.99 bin, or used as placemats at fast food restaurants. 😆Fortunately, their entire catalog was reexamined by the late 1980s, much to the band's credit.

Thanks, Matt for a very informative series. When I watch your videos about the history of bands, I do so with pen & paper nearby so I can take notes. I certainly remember the band as I was 11 years old when they had their first hit single in 1965. But in trying to remember what happened to them in terms of what bands I followed, I think they became irrelevant (at least to me and my music-listening friends) as the 60s wore on and we grew older. By the later 60s, we were listening to Cream, Steppenwolf, and Iron Butterfly. But even other established groups like The Beatles and Rolling Stones had changed their style of music. The Rascals may have changed their style in later years, but by then they had fallen off our listening radar. Maybe not having any top 30 hits pushed them off as AM radio was king back then. Thanks again for a great series.
