Fantastic and interesting selection, Matt. And so pleased that you gave a nod to The Man Who Came to Dinner. Funnily enough, Marx Brothers films have a strong Christmas association for me. I think that's because, years ago, the BBC used to show them very late on Christmas night to close their Christmas programming. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas, Matt, and know that you're in the thoughts of all your viewers.

Great video, Matt. Thank you! I was waiting for Night of the Hunter and I didn’t know if you would have that on your list. Incredible film ! And ends so beautifully on Christmas morning. I’m going to check out several on your list that I haven’t seen.

Mark Lewisohn is being coy about why there is a rift with Apple in the Cockcroft and Carty interview, but having listened to dozens of hours of interviews with Mark going back over ten years, it's very obvious that the problem is with the Harrison estate. As A perceived "Paul Man" (Lewisohn worked for Paul, as he says here), George soon took a dislike to Mark, and at around that time George groundlessly accused Mark of nefarious deeds when doing Beatles research. t's a very unbecoming episode, and Apple should be big enough o rise above such unpleasantness, especially when Olivia and Dhani are perpetuating George's grudge by proxy. Do we really want one of George's quite large number of grudges keeping alive over twenty year after he died? I wrote the above quite eerily in the video, and Matt comes to the same conclusion. Good stuff as always, Matt.

So sorry for your loss Matt. I love your beautiful tribute. When George's Rickenbacker riff comes in for "Every Little Thing", that's an especially moving part, and when I heard the string quartet in "Yesterday"....that gave me chills. Music is the ultimate healer.

"Cash on Demand," a noirish thriller about a bank robbery on Christmas Eve, is a worthy (if offbeat) addition to your list. Peter Cushing stars. It's from 1961 but feels very much like a movie from the 1950s.

What a comprehensive list! I'm also a big fan of classic movies and have seen all but three of these (I never heard of Beyond Tomorrow & Christmas Holiday). You included all of my classic favorites. I would have recommended an all-tiime favoriye, Remember the Night, as I do to any friends who like vintage films because hardly anyone knows it, but I'm glad you do.

I’ve always loved her. I read her book. And I think she is a wonderful author. She can really write. I have watched a lot of her interviews. Thank you very much for your great interview. Like you said sad but also encouraging in the book. She works so hard. My husband loves Frank Zappa’s work. I’m kinda obsessed with Laurel Canyon. Thank you so much. Happy Holidays 🎄

Matt you've got a great selection of Christmas movies there. A few of them I haven't seen and will have to check out. I recently saw a move titled Mr. Soft Touch. A Glenn Ford film noir where they sneaked in a Christmas theme. A fun movie although it looks like they didn't have the budget to include snow.

You hit all my old favorites, "The Bishop's Wife", "Remember the Night", "We're No Angels", "Miracle on 34th Street". One modern Christmas film I like by Nora Ephron is "Mixed Nuts". It won't get reacted to on You Tube because the 3 main actors Steve Martin, Madeline Kahn and Rita Wilson work at a suicide helpline. It's filled with loads of comedic actors you'll recognize. It's very Christmasy.

My band played _Forget All About It A While_ and _Letters Don’t Count_ from the Nazz Nazz album. I loved the whole album. In my view it was Todd Rundgren’s most approachable work, and certainly the best material for a rock band, with a focus on guitar and great vocals. Superb job as usual, Matt! 😎

Some thoughts: "It's A Wonderful Life" is my favorite Christmas film. And I'm old enough to have seen it before it got trendy, so I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon. The only film that could really compete with it would be the 1951 "Scrooge" (released in the US as "A Christmas Carol"). It's a head-scratcher for me how most of the Internet seems to favor the 1938 MGM version, which I enjoy just fine - but the Alastair Sim version is virtually flawless. "The Night Of The Hunter" is my favorite film of 1955, but I never think of it as a Christmas film, since so little of it takes place at that time. I loved "The Apartment" when I saw it many moons ago, but completely forgot that it takes place during the Christmas season. I'm also a fan of "Miracle On 34th Street" and "The Bishop's Wife." Speaking of the latter film, the little girl is the same that played Zuzu in "It's A Wonderful Life," so in consecutive years, she appeared in classic Christmas films featuring angels that walk among people.

Real research takes time and effort. There is no mystery to this and what ML is doing, to the degree of his results obviously shows that. It does not take a genius to work this out. The thing is that if he is now being blocked, as such, from further research, how can that possibly be a good thing, no matter what or who is, or not, being sensored? Surely he cannot carry on writing this history, with full accuracy, or as much as can be expected, if there is ANY block to research of various files.

Hi, Matt: I have been watching Remember The Night every Christmas for a few years now. My favourite part is her moment of realization as to what a good family is like when they are singing The End Of A Perfect Day. I was never crazy about Barbara but she is beautiful in this movie. One I didn't see you mention is The Miracle Of Morgan's Creek which is fun to watch at Christmas. I agree, Night Of The Hunter is one bizarre movie. My favourite part is the artistic scene when the children are floating down the river and the girl is singing. The Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol is the best. If you want to have a blast, watch Rich Little's A Christmas Carol comedy. Thank you for all the suggestions.
