As we continued to explored Seattle, it would appear it had further infected to discover. Deep within the bowels of a hospital, waiting for 25 years after the earliest days of the outbreak, existed a conglomeration of infected. Apparently trapped behind a locked door, they would bunch up in this one area and become the rat king. But how did they get conjoined and what consequences would this have for their morphology? lets discuss that in todays episode!

You know, when Nora was first telling us how that part of the hospital hadn't been touched yet because it was Ground Zero for the Seattle outbreak, I knew that nothing good would happen down there...then I saw this *THING* appearing in the back of the ambulance and just wanted to get the fuck out of there as quickly as possible. But I wanted to get killed by this thing, I'd prefer the neck snapping variant, since getting your limbs pulled off looks far, far worse. But this was one of my favourite segments in the whole game. It was like something out of Dead Space, being down in the dark, overgrown quarantine corridors, and then this hunk of flesh is after you, smashing through walls and anything else in the way.

I got an image of it spoiled to me and once I heard it was ground zero I knew what was down there, and how fucked I was. Thank god i got the damage upgrade for the hunting pistol so I didn’t waste too much ammo on the thing other than all my incindiary shells, pipe bombs and flamethrower ammo. So far it has been my favourite part of the game because of just how cool but scary the damn thing is. That and seeing Abby getting destroyed by this bad boi. That was gruesome but nice

That's a fairly sound theory. If they'd all been infected in the exact same way, then the rate of transformation would have been roughly the same give or take a few minutes depending on overall body type and such. What was left of their minds had them huddle for protection as Runners and things went from there.

I kinda like to imagine that the bloater underneath all of that was patient zero of the Cordyceps. In game they even mention how that hospital was where everyone went when they got sick during the breakout, and it looks to be the only bloater underneath the hospital. Just my theory anyway.

Fun fact the stockers are actually in the first game. They are in two places the first place is the hotel basement and then the second place is the sewers. The only difference is The stockers in the hotel only attack you once you get the key card

When it comes to necromorphs,I am interested in the idea of the victim still being conscious (but not in control of his body anymore) and able to speak,when they attack someone they would plead for help or shout warnings (telling to stand back or to run,for example) or they would just cry.

Kommissar_Kalcium if I had to come up with a new cordyceps infected concept: I would make something like a stalker/clicker that’s attached to the fungal sprawl but it got pushed up to the ceiling and lost it’s legs to the sprawl and will just be vibing up there until it notices you and it’ll just kinda swing itself downwards to snatch you And if I had to come up with a necromorph: it would be like an amalgamation between different variations of necromorph, like it has the size and build of the berserker(or whatever it’s name is, I’m talking about the huge tanky necromorph), it would have the slasher’s blades on it’s forearms, and if you’re far away from it then it will just start shooting chunks of vertebrae at you like the lurker, and as a finishing touch to this abomination of a necromorph, it would have a variety of both small necromorphs and sub-necromorphs(like any small necromorphs that are made from a necromorph’s own body mass), so while you’re blasting it swarmers, members of the pack, and maybe some lurkers will be just ripping themselves off the amalgamation and start chasing you down, but for some degree of fairness the detached necromorphs will be missing certain parts and would be sluggish compared to their normal counterparts

i heard that some infected just dont evolve and i can see that possibly being the case because when i played i saw runners that looked very decayed so is it possible that the fungus just doesnt evolve the infected in some cases?

Your theory is correct, and it was also proven in the 1st game when you encounter so many runners in Bill’s town. My theory for why they don’t evolve and go on to the next stage is simply because the body is still trying to resist the cordyceps(ik I didn’t spell that right) but yea due to the body trying to resist the fungus, the stops the virus in it’s tracks and leaves you at the first stage until you eventually get killed by a survivor or become a spore carrier

@@user-bc2if4vb2i Infected need large amounts of protein. Prion diseases from eating nervous tissue probably damage the brain and slow growth of cordyceps. Infected that can subsist entirely off spores become bloaters. Notice the first bloater in Part I was in a closed room? Boy was probably eating other infected that starved. Condensation allowed cordyceps to keep host barely-hydrated. Low light and protein intake facilitated external growth.

I love how sometimes these games steal already existing words in a way that makes sense and just build on existing folklore. A Rat King is a, possibly fictitious, mass that happens when several rats's tails get intertwined in a way they cannot escape one another. It makes sense that, if a dangerous fungal growth that took over human forms could conglomerate into a single entity controlled by a hive mind, as well as tracking anything that develops past that, would be an isolated group that could be closely monitored for outside connections or cross group fraternization or similar to help create an accurate model on how this virus spreads.

The body bundle was likely caused by the hospital stacking seemingly dead infected on a bloater. Later a clicker wanders in and the bloater falls on to it adding to the body bundle.

something else that can help it move so effectively in tandem is that fungi grow "neural networks" made of their microscopic mycelium that interconnects all the fungi together into basically a single organism, in the context of this beast the different heads of the various creatures would all be working together at the same time, but when the stalker disconnects the connection would essentially be broken from that point and would act independently of the Rat King

Bloaters don’t only form from larger people, it’s also to do with gas buildup inside the body and the fungus expanding and growing, this is most likely easier in larger people but I doubt it would be isolated to them.

Even if the story is not good,I think the game could be played just for the gameplay,the game gets a lot of hate because of the story,but it offers more than just that,but they killed Joel and made you play as Abby,so of course lots of peoples hates the game,ignoring the many good things in it,even if it's clear that an incredible amount of effort went into creating it.

@@luigicampo4008 Abbys gameplay was way more engaging and that kinda pissed me off more. Ellies takes forever to start and it was very stealth heavy. Abby started off with a chase scene and was cool. Id it downplayed and make ellies gameplay repetitive and dull to make abby a beast that runs through guns ablaze.

@dead meme I also don’t respect things like sexism and homophobia but I am really sick of being called those things because I criticize bad writing in games and movies. I disagree with Big Boss you are being kind shit for saying 'most of us' hater her for those reasons. The Last of Us 2 is a predominantly boring story wise and the characters are brain dead. Yes, I know 'people don't always act logically' but people do act consistently and Joel most certainly did not. Also why did that woman say "I'm pregnant'" the moment a gun was pointed at her? It would both be a logical and an emotional reaction. On top of that her instincts would be screening 'protect the baby protect the baby" and knowing that would make most people hesitate. On top of that the writers had no idea how to make a compelling story or like-able characters, Abby is just the worst example and the secondary main character (which makes it all worse). Seriously tell me something she does that makes you actually like her? Not pity her or understand her, like her. The game also overloads you with shock value which actually keeps later instances of it from being truly shocking, which is a big part of why the story is boring. That and most of the story IS the shock value. I can go on but I think I painted a good enough picture. Abby is the center of a lot of this shit writing so most people innately don't like her though most don't know why. Maybe you should actually look up what people are saying instead of listening to people who were PAYED TO SELL YOU SAID PRODUCT, or who just want to white knight on twitter. One of the things bigots due is never actually get to know the 'other side' and instead just stereotype them. So maybe stop being a bigot yourself and listen you why people don't like things, instead of the people claiming to read minds.

I always thought of the rat king as a singular mass of flesh, coordinating the movements of all its limbs. But you made me realize it's more likely that they are 5 separate entities. Sharing food through connected pathways maybe but they're all trying to do their own thing. The bloater is running after you and everyone else is just getting pulled along for the ride and taking advantage of opportunities when food presents itself.

Disturbing but not surprising. Patients that are bedridden and neglected can get bedsores ( ulcers that form from being in the same position too long) if the patient isn't physically manipulated enough and these wounds try to heal, they can heal around and through the mesh in bed linens, binding them together. Imagine these infested, in close proximity, probably squirming and rubbing together, causing friction ulcers, or just the inflammation and ulcers the infestation causes. If wounds from two different infested pressed together long enough, they could heal together conjoining the two so that they share blood supply.
