The Rats of Calais, Maine 🐭

When I was 5 and living in Calais, my two friends Jonathan and Melissa went for an impromptu hike over one of the bridges and ended up getting grounded for 6 months! That was an eternity for us at the time. Looking at the bridges today, the whole thing seems comical.

So pretty. I’m in a really small town on the ocean on the West Coast and I am priced out of the housing market. I saw some really cute houses there. I really need peace and quiet. 🤫 😊

You would get peace and quiet there for sure. Just need to be able to handle that long cold winter up there. I couldn’t handle it. Lived in Ohio and the winter were too long for me I would get anxious for some sunshine and warmth in January 😄

@@NickandJulie oh, it’s great whenever people are down on the river even late at night we will yell back-and-forth to each other nobody ever complains about the noise it’s crazy that you were able to get the rats on camera because we only usually see them at night when we walk the trail

I go down there evreyday to eat and yes u will be in alot of trouble if u swim or boat across

@@NickandJulie Before 9-11 it wasnt, growing up there in the 90's teenagers would cross all time many different ways. I doubt people do it now though, the world has changed.

@@NickandJulie It is rare for people to swim or boat across. The river is deceptive, it's faster and stronger then it looks, several people have drowned trying to swim over. And don't bother trying to boat over, the crossing guards will see you and you will be arrested.

I live in Los Angeles California and the rats are as big as cats here. Also the smaller ones are by the thousands together so this is nothing lol I want to move to Calais it’s way nicer or shall I say Micer then where I live lol

Yikes! Those are some big rats! 😳 Calais is a good option, more affordable housing. Just need to be okay with the harsh winters and the cold that lasts a good part of the year. Definitely different from LA weather!

Question, have you kids taking steps to rodent-proof/bug proof your truck camper? Sad to confess this but, it is a thing. From squirrels / raccoon / porcupines and rodents, we've had to take steps to keep such animals out of our truck campers. We're now running a 10.4 2500 series truck camper. This is our 3rd truck camper. We've even had issues with bees and hornets. There's tons of information about this all over KZbin that we found very helpful, and it's just a suggestion. Not only will you have to take steps for your truck camper but, you'll also need to take steps to prevent them from getting into your truck itself. They'll tear up your wiring, just cause all kinds of issues. Once again, it's just a suggestion. You kids be safe, look forward to your next video upload.

We need to look into that for sure, we really haven’t given it much thought. Is it more of an issue while it is parked for an extended period of time? Right now, it’s always on the move. I remember seeing houses under 100k on Cheap Old Houses Instagram page. Not sure how long you’re planning on living there. That’s about the extent of what I know of the housing market there 😅 sorry.
