My ever growing love for the moving poems of Edgar..Allen..Poe. but this one in itself has made me rethink the thought of all that will remain nevermore. The sorrow for my lost Lenore is as real to me as the feeling of the Lenore for Poe. I have a stilled beating heart that's has been taken away with all that is nevermore.

The Raven is a classic short tale of horror from Poe, also combined with the deep, narrating voice of Christopher Lee?! So epic. I should download this to my iPhone. :3
@rainbowstalin41159 жыл бұрын
MiyuChan It's not an horror tale (I wouldn't say it's "horror" even if it was a tale), it's a poem that best depicts Poe's addition to the romanticist movement. The bird comes from his own interior, it's his soul. The answer to if he will ever see his loved Leonor again doesn't come from reason but from himself. And the answer is a nihilistic and terrible "nevermore".
@rodrigogbahia9 жыл бұрын
Rainbow Stalin Interesting, even if it comes from "his soul" and not from reason, I would say it comes from the tormented soul of a rational man, who tries to convince himself otherwise, but understands (in pain) there is no religious relief for our losses in the material world. Things/people are taken aways from us - for evermore. Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore. (...) Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore.”

Quite honestly I fail to see the profoundness of this story. Yes the rhyme scheme is exceptional and Poe's ability to assert emotion through a story is unmatched, but in my opinion the plot in this particular poem was very inconsequential. If there is someone out there who disagrees, I implore you to prove your point to me. p.s christopher lee is a badass
@VIPHighlander11 жыл бұрын
Hi; I agree completely; ultimately the story is simply- Man laments dead girlfriend, man meets bird, man talks to bird, man goes mad. But I've found its simplicity very profound in itself. There is practically nothing there, but it provides the exact setting and structure to appease the rational side of a reader's mind so that the emotive side can get on with being thrilled in peace. Basically its as essential to the whole as any other part; without it it would just collapse under the weight of all that alliteration and eeriness, but the plot provides just enough information for us to get a hold on where the narrator is coming from, and the basic physicality of that horror haunted home that everything else can take off, so that a man who starts off just depressed can end up catatonic and insane. That's my two pence, anyway. :)
@joshklenner179911 жыл бұрын
VIPHighlander Wow I'm really glad you responded. After I read your reply I went back and watched the vid again, and man what a difference. As embarrassing as this is I didn't even know Lenore was his deceased wife, it's like it all came together and made sense. We are just witnessing a man who is having a mental breakdown because of how depressed he is from the death of his beloved wife. And I don't know if this is true but I felt like the raven was a representation of Edgar himself, or maybe a representation of the depressing situation. But anyhow, I take back what I said this is great! Thanks for clearing that up good job ha
@VIPHighlander11 жыл бұрын
Josh Klenner No worries. I hadn't thought of the raven like that though it makes sense that it would be Poe, or a voice in his head. The one we all have that just says over and over; "It's over, you're screwed, just give up", I can imagine that voice was very loud in Poe's head. Also, yes, Christopher Lee is a bad ass :D
@stefanonicola344510 жыл бұрын
I feel like most of Poe's poems and stories can't be looked at merely from a "plot perspective", infact most of them give me the idea of something that's just happening in the author's head rather than an actual story (whether a true one or one that takes place in a parallel, fantasy world). The Raven to me seems the physical mean that the author uses to symbolize a real melancholic feeling that almost drives the main character/author to insanity. The plot is relative (that's just my opinion though, I could be wrong). And yes C.Lee is a fullout badass
@cevg261210 жыл бұрын
The true eeryness of the poem is the ravens answer. the main character seeks relief, to know if he will ever see lenore again. same as asking if there is an afrerlife... quoth the raven, nevermore. then the he asks the raven to leave! to end his torment and leave him be. quoth the raven, nevermore
