We raw feed and have wondered soooo many times how to use while training. I have watched you using a spoon, but I know it would be a mess. Those bowls look so perfect. Thank you for providing us with so much good information, Susan! Have a beautiful day! 🫶

I raw feed my dogs, however I feed raw meaty bones mostly. I do feed the finely minced vegetables (often they eat the vegetables first) . I do use dehydrated meat as training treats. But I don’t feed mince as I just think that they must need to chew the bones and the chunks of meat. I love your programmes and I’m in Recallers, I don’t do as much training as I should partly because of the how to treat problem.

We feed completely raw and Dr. Judy Morgan dvm is the reason. I dehydrate grass fed and pasture raised meats. I worked with guide dogs for a huge organization and saw the sickest dogs eating kibble. I make all dog treats using single ingredients and dehydrating muscle meats. We own large breed dogs. No flour or oats, rice, potatoes for allergy dogs.

Thank you for posting this podcast. We transitioned our pup to raw fully around 3 months ago, and it’s been a key factor in helping us to keep her at a healthy weight. When she was on kibble, I always struggled to get drive for her food during training so we would always have to buy additional training treats, which makes it difficult to know how much you are actually feeding your dog. Like you say, store bought treats can be carlorically dense, but as I found out, this nutritional information can be missing from the dog food labels, and can be misleading for consumers. We now just feed raw and use for all her training treats- which my pup loves, no questions asked! What I appreciate about this podcast is the variety of strategies for feeding during training, which covers a range of settings and training scenarios. Training with raw is messy, so I love 🧡 how you’ve opened up some more possibilities for us, and and will definitely be considering ways to expand/ improve our current routines :)

Thanks for all this info Susan!! I fed my last dog raw and found the juicer to be a fantastic tool. “Juiced” the fruits and veggies then mixed the pulp back in and all of that with the meat. Nirvana for the dog! 😂

Hi Susan; I just discovered you and I’m so excited! Such amazing content. A little overwhelmed because there is so much for me to learn! I’m a first time dog owner. I was wondering what brand of raw food you use? I saw Raw Paws on Dr. Coger’s website. Truthfully, I distrust most business 😭.

When it comes to food tubes, look at the ones for baby food 👀 I have a silicone baby food tube. You might have to cut the nib depending on the size so that your raw doesn't explode all over the airport floor (ask me how I know...) but best purchase I ever made for training.

1) Raw meat is not high calorie; it’s high protein. Protein is processed very differently by the body than carbohydrates. It does not store as fat if taken in treat-sized quantities. 2) Why add potatoes to homemade treats? Just cook meat, no additives, then slice it into small treat pieces and freeze them. Use as needed. They don’t fall apart without potato starch as glue. It works fine.

I prefer not to raise my dogs’ protein intake by feeding straight protein.

Coincidentally, I watched Dr. Karen Shaw Beker's video at KZbin today. Tonight yours. My dog got sick. I'm not sure exactly why. I'm changing the kibble. Before he got sick, I was planning to change his diet to raw this summer. I'm not sure if it is a good time to move to raw since he is on medicine and a bland diet. I do not want him to get sick. If he gets worse, the vet wants him to start vet food. And I do not, probably I won't. I'm again in search mode. How I found Susan Garrett, I'm sure I will find the best diet for my dog. It may take time to switch to raw, but I will. It was really good timing to watch this episode . Thank you again and again. 💗🐕💗🐕💗🐕

Such a helpful clip. I must try to find a baking tray like yours for tiny treats. Lovely Cleopatra reference with the peeled grspes but a reminder not to feed dogs grapes or dried fruit from grapes as they may require veterinary assistance if you do is important. I also wanted to hear your thoughts on raw egg whites. I have heard this is not good for dogs but am finding very variable advice on this. Thank you for the clip.

Thank you very much for this information and I have a question I am a raw feeder also and I wondered if you ever test your dog stool for either worms or bacteria the reason why I’m asking is because I’ve been feeding my dog raw for a long time and he’s been fine but I’ve noticed he had a very soft stool a couple of days ago that’s kind of still hanging out there and he has not been around any other dogs or didn’t get into anything he he. He still eat the same food that I’ve been feeding him for months and I just wondered if I should test him like have a stool sample to see if there’s any bacteria or any type of parasites only because I do feed raw so I can’t wait to hear your answer. Thank you very much.

I've though about feeding raw but I hold back because my small dogs eat so little as it is and gain weight so easily. I have started making a "green smoothie" with spinach and an egg and freezing it. I call them Pupsicles but my Havanese gets it all messy on her face! 😆 So there's that issue 🙄

My 10 months puppy is rejecting her meal, she would looks scared toward the food, barks, air snap, nip hard at us trying to feed her. We tried different feeding methods and change the type of food ( kibble, cooked, freeze fried, canned food ). She only eats when she 1st introduced to it once. She show high interested in our food, but we have never fed human food. Any advise on helping her eats? Do you think raw feed will help? Thanks

What are your thoughts on slightly cook dog food? Switched my dog about 8-9 months ago and at first she did beautifully but in the last 4-5 months she has issues with very soft mucus poops and having to poop in the middle of the night. Any suggestions vs switching from slightly cooked to raw?

is "The List" American pet food companies or do they include Canadian companies as well? We feed Big Country Raw, the only thing we can get in our area. We used to feed Raw Performance prior to moving and I noticed a huge difference in nutritional profile and the effect it had on my dog. I have been working with a canine/feline nutritionist to ensure the macronutrients and vitamins and minerals are properly balanced both for my adult dog and my puppy. I am not thrilled with BCR but that is all we have unless we drive for two hours to buy another brand.

You seem to be using minced meat to feed. How do you deliver calcium to your dogs? Do you mince the bones with the meat, do you use supplements of calcium or maybe you don't do it at all? If you mix it how does your dog teeth doing? Bones tend to clean them. I wonder how to implement treats in training while feeding bones as well, since my dog is small and castrated her calory intake is quite small (I feed around 160g of food and half of cow stomach chew a day to keep her weight proper) so the amount of food she get to consume is not that great for training (while a lot of meat comes from chicken wing so often there is just a little bit of plain meat).

Hi Ada, you have some great resources on raw feeding in the description box under the video. In the raw mixes Susan uses there is bone included, plus she also gives them different items to chew regularly. Apart from treats, you can use your dog's food to train, like Susan demonstrates in the video: feeding from a spoon or giving permission to eat from the bowl. Hope this helps! 🐾
