Haven't used Virtue but I took those on a weekend trip and watched about 5 movies and the Air 2s were amazing.

Can you change the apparent screen size or are you stuck with a 120 inches display at 5 cms of your eyes ?

It stays the same size. As you adjust the Air 2s you can have it be slightly more away from your eyes if needed.
