The RC Geek's JHH Mirage IIIRS with JetFan120 Flight at MRCF

Here's video of my newly repaired Jet Hangar Hobbies Mirage IIIRS now with JetFan 120 installed! Is it an EDF or Turbine? ;) Certainly difficult to tell from sound alone. Thanks to Air-Jon on RCG for manning the camera during the flight. The power system is as follows (available from JetHangar.com)

Spot on landing! Amazes me watch some of these guys that have tons of flying time. They'll nose up and or level off 5-10 feet before touchdown instead of riding the glide scope down to a foot or two before settling into ground effect. Amazes me how so many accomplished RC jocks don't even know what ground effect is. Well done, Geek 😉😁

Chris just finished this vid and the one with the E-turbax unit in the jet.The sound difference is amazing.They both fly the Mirage well but the JF does seem to pull it around a little better,but the sound is incredible.Finally saw a vid with the byro-unit and electric motor and was not impressed at all.Sounded terrible and take-off roll very sluggish.You are a good salesman for the JetFan,thanks Chris!

I thought from the sound of it that it WAS a turbine. I did not realize that it was NOT when I read the description. Nice looking and fine flying jet. Great high alpha landing. EK~

Sweet Mirage.. Good flying.. I love the paint job and nice job on the repairs.. That big EDF unit sure sounds like a turbine..

+PatBALEX it sounds much better to me!! I prefer the sound of the bigger EDFs to turbines because of the lack of low frequency rumble that a full scale will have. The EDFs actually have more and the performance is really good with less complexity!!

Thank you! With a fiberglassed model, it’s all about the prep to get a smooth finish. Takes primering and filling until it’s all smoothed out and then it’s ready to paint.

Manage to surgically implant a leopard LBP5692-730kv. motor into my JF 120. Max static thrust is only 19.1lbs with about 137 amps peak.

Man that thing sounds sweet. I watch the other video and you can tell its a EDF more so when you back off the throttle. But with this upgrade it sounds more like a turbine no EDF whining sound heard at all. Is this a 12 bladed fan unit ? And nice landing, I still can't get the high alpha landing down correct yet lol more practice lol.

+Dennis M Thanks! The JetFan120 has 11 blades. The high alpha landings do take a little practice but once you sort out the technique, it gets easier. It's all about using the throttle properly on approach and touchdown. The aircraft pitch angle should pretty much be set the whole time.

That is a very nice jet Chris,and the JetFan sure pulls it around with authority and sounds great!What kind of flight times with a 6200mah battery,around 4 minutes?Also can you recommend a decent set of electric retracts for a jet weighing around 12 lbs.?Thanks Chris you post some very fine videos!!

Thanks man! When I competed with the airplane at Scale Masters in 2016, I was getting over 5 minute flights when I had to without too much of an issue. A scale routine is mostly partial throttle, so, if you're in the throttle more, then obviously it shortens the flight. 4 minutes is about right flying the airplane more sporty. Also, a more traditional type airplane (non-delta) would fly more efficiently and probably help extend the flight a little more too. Deltas require a bit more thrust for cruising than a more traditional jet (like a T-33 or panther).
